17yr old attacking midfielder signed/poached from Anderlecht last season.
Two Belgium's newpapers are reporting he'll go with the main team on preseason tour and also will be included in the first team squad next season

Het Nieuwsblad say that Adnan Januzaj will join #mufc's summer tour (without mention of USA). Lots of folks told me "no tour to USA".

RTBF reporting that young Belgian Adnan Januzaj will go on #mufc's tour to the USA in the summer and will join 'A' squad next season. (tbc)

Note: RTBF later on amended their news and removed the USA, as we aren't going there.

For me he's one of our best prospects, reminds me very much of David Silva.

The hell was it locked? Open it and move it to the youth forum. It's pretty informative.

As I said in the other thread :), he's a class act.

I'm looking forward to seeing him develop in the next couple of years. He and the new kid, Pereira, are exceptional.

I hope he does go on the tour. It would add spice to see an outstanding young prospect pitted against adult players. That and finding out how Kagawa slots into the team would make the games a must see.

It's also the only thread about his first year at the club. Just seems pointless to close it and not move it, even though you and CLK were doing your best to derail it.

Agreed, it follows his progress throughout his first year at United and should be moved to the Reserves/Youth forum.

I did no such thing sir ;)

I'll delete my posts and we should re open it because as you said, very informative!

Would you like fries with that ? Seriously Elliot.

I've moved it to the Youth Forum and reopened it. :)

He's was constantly on the score sheet for the academy team, can't say I saw him play too many times, but from the write ups he seems to be the best player at that level.

I remember him only playing at academy level, did he play at all for the reserves?

And, of course, he has just about the coolest name you could ask for, surely a sign he will become star.

Januzaj was a very good player the matches he played last season - but he was not constantly on the score sheet. In fact he should have been there much more often - and getting into goalscoring positions is something he has to work on

Well, I meant relative to what you'd expect, it seemed that he scored or assisted in every other game I read about, but perhaps my memory is making his seem better than he was.

Can't find any stats for the youth team from last season.

If he goes on tour with the big boys as seems likely then he deserves a new thread in here, but needs a snappier thread title.

Is this kid the real deal?

How does he rate against other much-hyped prospects that have come through at a similar age such as Morrison and Rossi?

And who is rated higher within the ranks between Januzaj and Andreas Pereira?

Impossible to judge at this stage. Perriera has been here for a few months. Januzaj is further ahead in his development.

You've also missed Mats Daehli who is a very very intelligent footballer.

He is the real deal but looks like could be blown away by a gust of wind. He missed the last few months of the season with some sort of injury, does not look like it was too serious. I am not sure he has the strength to play with the first team yet. Football wise he is very good. He could play on the left wing, skillful and tracks back like a Giggs. I think he could be a Modric like player playing centrally as he matures.

When we signed Pereira Skysports reported that every major club in Europe were contesting for his signature as he was one of the highest rated players in the world in his age group.

I don't think that Januzaj was held in the same regard when he moved. From what I have seen of Pereira he looks to be the most talented player that I can remember seeing in the reserves. He seems to have everything that you could want from a midfielder player passing, control, technique, flair, set pieces, goals and even a bit of aggression.

Of course you can never be sure who will make the step up.

IMO...Januzaj was good, but he didn't really stand out as a lot better than our other players. The little I have seen from Pereira suggests he is something special - Januzaj is not at that level

Has Pereira played for the reserves yet? I must have missed that. I thought there was some mix up with his paperwork and he could not play for United for some reason till next season. Apparently he then made a couple of appearances for the U18 team for a couple of games. I have not yet seen him play so will reserve judgement till then. From what I have seen I rate Janujaz as the most talented and then Daeli as the next best in from the youngsters. If Pereira is better than that he must be very good, he looks more solidly built than Janujaz and Daeli, both of them still looks like kids.

He has not played for the reserves yet and I have not seen him in a Utd shirt yet. I have only seen him in You Tube videos of youth tournaments that he has played in.

When I say 'the best player in the reserves that I remember seeing' I mean his skill set and what we can see of his attributes from the limited samples that we have. Like I said, he seems to have everything.

Of course we can not say for with any certainty how good either player will be but if we sat on the fence on these issues, waiting for things to come to fruition, then the forum would be a rather dead. I am simply taking a stab at a prediction from what I have read and seen.

Pereira played 1 1/2 games at the end of the season for the Academy. His debut was called off after a torrential downpour.

cnuts.

Wait... what witchcraft is going on with this thread? I'm pretty sure there've been more than two posts in it since 2012...

We've lost all our best foreign kids in the last decade - Rossi, Pique, Pogba, Daehli? The appearance of weakness invites predators. We need to keep at least one to counter the impression, and show that the policy of buying these kids makes sense in the first place.

Let's start with Januzaj.
