Berbatov | Fulham player

Latest transfer murmur is that there is a very large chance for him to go to Dortmund as part of a deal for Lewandowski or Kagawa or both. If true, SAF is making sure he signs Lewandowski before the Euros since his price may rise after them if he does well.

Berba will do well in Dortmund. I am not sure how Dortmund will do though if they sell some of their best players...

He hasn't been sulking for them. He's scored several goals and been one of their key players.

He was clearly sulking at SPURS in his final season there, when they hadnt let him leave after 1 year. SPURS and Levy will surely remember that.

Id rather keep Berbatov than sign Lewandowski. He's a bit like Mario Gomes in that he scores quite a few but still misses a lot of chances. He's nowhere near the quality of Berbatov in general either.

So you're another who thinks Sir Alex doesnt have a clue then? Thats if that rumour actually happens, which none of us know at this point.

Seems like most of Berbatov's fans on the caf are also among the elite managers in world football. I think that says a lot about his qualities as a footballer

Berbatov claims he is disappointed that Sir Alex Ferguson did not give him more opportunities.

"We talked 10 times, he told me there would be a place for me but I stayed on the bench," Berbatov is quoted as saying in The Sun.

"My time at Manchester United is running out. I no longer feel like a valuable part of this team. I think I did well in the few opportunities that I received.

"I am a little frustrated by the way this happened, I do not think I deserved it. But I have dignity and I stopped going to such meetings, it is clear that I'm leaving United. It's obvious that I have to leave.

"I'm looking for a new place now. I know I can still play at the highest level."

A manager is always going to tell his fringe players to fight it out, and with Berba being a United supporter he'd want to stick it out, but it really seems in retrospect that if Welbeck was going to be first choice and Chicharito ahead of Berba too then he was probably a bit wasted in a 4th striker role.

The strange part is that Berbatov should have known this would happen. He was an integral part of what happened with Tevez. Player plays his part in very successful team and then a new striker comes in and takes his place frustrating the previous striker. Berbatov should just feel lucky that we didnt spend £30 million on someone to come and take his place and he just lost his place to a player who came through the academy and came back into the squad after a loan, and a player we got for cheap from Mexico.

How lucky can one man get?

If you you select the wrong tool for the job, what is at fault? You for selecting the wrong tool or the tool itself?

Yes there was a beleif Berba would addapt but there was no guarantee especially for an established player.

Why are you calling Berbatov a tool?

Using a crap analogy. Point is you cant put blame 100% on berba door. He has played the way he always has. It was fergie mistake to beleive he could mould him which is difficult the older players get.

I would put the blame more on Berbatov for failing to adapt than Fergie.

He just went missing far too much. His off days were too bad and he rarely worked hard enough.

Looking at it it is quite obvious why Fergie grew tired of him.

Dimitar Berbatov's agent has confirmed the Manchester United striker would be interested in a summer move to Paris St Germain.

The Bulgarian is looking to quit Old Trafford before the start of next season after playing only a peripheral role at United during the past campaign.

The 31-year-old started only five games in the Premier League and Sir Alex Ferguson has suggested he is prepared to let Berbatov go for the right price.

He has been linked with a return to the Bundesliga following reports United want to include the former Bayer Leverkusen forward as a makeweight in a deal for Borussia Dortmund's Robert Lewandowski.

However, PSG have held a long-standing interest in Berbatov and were linked with a move to sign him 12 months ago.

With Carlo Ancelotti having steered PSG into next season's UEFA Champions League, Berbatov's agent Emil Danchev admits a move to the French capital is an option.

Danchev told French radio station RMC: "In the press, there are many speculations regarding Dimitar.

"But the truth is, that PSG's project can really interest him because he wants to play the Champions League next year.

"Plus, there has never been a Bulgarian player at PSG, so it could be good."

Hope we get a good price for him ,PSG are flushed with cash. And a great move for him to.

If he must go ( and obviously he must ) I do hope his next move is a good one and he gets the most out of it

Would PSG be a good move? I hope so for him, would be a nightmare if they spend a load of money again this summer and he just plays a bit-part again.

This is the least player of his calibre and age deserves. I think it would be rather good move for him, if played in a right position and right system he is still a fabulous striker.

I am surprised there aren't many PL sides interested, at least from what I've gathered.

Ancelotti would be a lunatic not to play him week in week out, that is if he goes there obviously.

He said he won't move to another PL side, so it'd be pointless for anyone to show interest. If he stanxe changed then he'd have plenty of PL offers.

Ancelotti may well buy Higuain or someone too this summer, that's my point.

I believe he said that only recently, right? And the general consensus he would be leaving has been established quite a long time ago.

Also there's no chance they'll get Higuain in my opinion.

Who was it that said Berbatov never should go to Serie A because he is too good for that league?

That was funny. Think it was evra

Sounds to me like his agent is inviting contact from PSG rather reporting that they've been in touch. I just hope it doesn't become one of those situations where the agent is pushing the "it's my client's dream" narrative and the club in question isn't interested at all.

Wish him all the luck in the world.

If you're a great player, you need to prove you can adapt somewhat to a great team.

For all we know Berbatov could go to his next team and do no better, simply because they arent Spurs either.

Also, Berbatov would be a good signing for PSG now but if they're so flush with cash he probably wouldnt be their only signing. They might not manage Higuain, but they could get someone else who is younger and offers more overall than Berbatov. So yeah he does have to make sure he's going to be first choice if he goes there but then again, even if he was just a sub he'd still play a lot more than he has this season

Actually, his agent gave an interview not long ago, saying he never spoke to Goal.com and that they have fabricated that interview. he considered talking to his lawyers, but decided not to bother. Berbatov himslef said on TV, that he would ofcourse consider PL teams...

I'm looking for a link, though he said it on tv...not sure if I can find one

A horrible Google translation, but what the hell..

Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov has admitted that his time at Manchester United has been completed and will most likely enforced play another team.
Great Star of Bulgarian football at the moment and sincerely gave an extensive interview for the show "Let's talk" with Rosen Petrov BTV.

Here's what you said the former captain of the Bulgarian national team:
For the future
"I think my time over there. I'll go wherever I want, I have more to give to football.
I know what I and my manager is available, if suitable offers. Many people give me the example of Carlos Tevez, who went to Manchester United Manchester City.
I would not do such a thing. Far from my mind because I am a loyal person. Years ago I had the opportunity to go there and bid was higher, but refused to play a better team for me, "said Berbatov.
"I would play for another English team championship for me does not matter, it is the team and its ambitions. For me Manchester United top, I'm on top now and henceforth it is a step down for me, but this is normal.

 Quality.

He may never have hit the heights that was expected, he is some player.

It was the FA Cup Semi against City. If he scores those sitters we win the game, and most likely the FA Cup and City get nothing. We were all over them in that first half and should have had the game won 20 mins in to it.

Fergie doesn't forget these things.

To me, that game spelled the end for Berbatov. Rooney was suspended and the burden went to Berbatov who unfortunately for him, shit the bed at a very crucial time.

Too bad. Supremely talented player who showed that he was classy off the pitch. I want him to stay.

Lot of rumours today floating around twitter that Malaga have made an enquiry - nothing reliable so far but it's coming from a lot of people (rather than a single idiot ITK)

Disagree completely. When you buy a player you should have an idea on how best to use him. Berba clearly needs pace going past him, players running off him so he can either lay it off first time, or use them as decoy to turn and carry the ball to the edge of the box.

Fergie has never once played Berba in a system that suits him. He tried to fit him in a 4-3-3 when Tevez, Rooney and Ronaldo were there. Then when they left he tried a 4-4-2 with Rooney which again never worked because both players wanted to drop deep.

Then he eventually did turn the corner, started scoring goals and performing regularly. Which it has to be said he really stepped up to the plate when Rooney lost the plot after the WC. What does Fergie do after Berba finishes joint top scorer? That's right, we wait 3 years for him to look the part and then once he does, he completely freezes him out.

Baffling decisions by Fergie, from the minute he bought a player we clearly didn't need, to the moment he goes, he will have failed at every level to ever get the best out of Berba. For that the blame lies firmly at the feet of the managerimo. Any way you look at it. If we are blaming Berba's attitude then the manager has to be looked at for not seeing that before he spunked £30m on him. If we are not blaming Berba, then there is only one other to blame and that's SAF, like it or not imo.
