Oh I just read Kagawa is not going to be part of the Olympics. That is terrific news. Is he joining us on the 1st of July?

When are the Olympics supposed to finish? Good news that kagawa will be ready for the start of the season but I hope we aren't missing de gea/Smalling for too long.

Yeah I hope will get a rest this summer and recover fully from his injuries instead of being rushed back to play for England.

I'm guessing the players going to the Olympics will not need a rest as they will have technically have had the summer off. Would the Olympics possibly be a decent substitute for Pre Season training?

From a goalkeepers point of view, going to the Olympics and playing in a competitive tournament is probably beneficial. Pre-season is not so much about fitness for them as it is sharpness.

With the Olympic being in London, it would make it easier for the players rather than halfway round the world.
Since this is the kagawa thread, did he get his work permit approve yet ?

What's taking so long for him to sign? Unless he has already had a medical done and we have applied for his work permit, then waiting for July 1st to announce it officially?

I'm thinking its probably something like that. When you look at the amount of Kagawa stuff that's been on the official website, quoting the player as saying he's signing for us and having articles by Rafael Honingstein giving the low down on him its clear the deal is in place. I think United are just waiting for the right time to go public. Maybe they're looking to sign someone else as well and want to announce them together or something?

Does he have a WP. I think he "technically" does not qualify because he missed some NT matches and has to go under exceptional talent rule.

I think if they wait to apply until it's been more than 2 years since the last Japan world cup game (at the end of the month), he'll easily qualify for it without needing the exceptional talent. Might be doing that.

Flying over for a medical tomorrow, according to *snort* goal.com *snort*

On Tuesday he was doing this

Seems like a great guy

"I can only stay for a short while, but I hope we can have fun today," Kagawa said to 48 students in the first to third years. They responded with a hearty cheer. The students were amazed by Kagawa's skills as the attacking midfielder easily dribbled past 10 students.

Sounds like a right cnut.

'Certified Bullshitter 3'?

So, tomorrow he is having a medical and signing his contract.

Does anyone remember a player failing a medical? Just imagine if that would happen, probably I will cry.

Only 1 i can think of from recent times is Demba Ba.

Didnt we have the issue with Ruud the first time where we detected injury and wanted him to have surgery but he didnt want it and the move fell through. Then he got injured when he went back to PSV and Sir Alex came to see and support him while recovering ?

RVN? (we went to sign him the following year)

I never knew that. Strange that he was one of the most favorites player, but again I started watching United regularly at 2001-2002.

Didn't Obertan failed his medical the first time round? He got through it the second which isn't exactly a pleasing thing to say on hindsight

It's exactly what happened. There have been other problems here and there. Bruce and Ince, for instance, but we went ahead and did the deals. Fergie thought Bruce's appearance record was more important while we settled on a different deal for Ince with West Ham.

Kagawa 'set for Man United medical'
(AFP) – 3 hours ago
TOKYO — Japanese international Shinji Kagawa was due to undergo a medical on Friday as he looks to seal his transfer to Premier League giants Manchester United, reports said.
The 23-year-old former Borussia Dortmund star left Tokyo's Narita airport late Thursday and was due in Manchester for just 11 hours during a 44-hour, 22,000-kilometre (13,700-mile) whirlwind trip.
"It's just a medical check. I hope it will end with no problem," the attacking midfielder, who helped Dortmund to the Bundesliga title for two straight years, told Japanese media at Narita airport.
Kagawa, who moved to Dortmund in 2010 from J-League side Cerezo Osaka, said he would not have time to see his new club's facilities including their Old Trafford ground on his current trip.
Kagawa said his new boss Sir Alex Ferguson had promised to use him behind a central striker in a 4-4-1-1 formation, the major daily Asahi Shimbun reported.
United announced earlier this month they had reached an agreement with Dortmund on Kagawa's transfer which would be completed once he had passed a medical and obtained a UK work permit.
