This thread makes me less pissed off at losing Fryers

Van Persie
Kagawa Rooney Valencia/Nani
Carrick Cleverley
Evra Rio Vidic Rafael

Pexbo doesn't like this.

Yeahh, that is the line up it would be, but it is a completely unnecessary addition when we are so well stocked up top, and with centre mid and left back needed improvements.

If Valencia started that would be Nani, Welbeck, Young and Hernandez on the bench. Young and Hernandez especially just wouldn't get any games.

What's the real sporting challenge? To try and spearhead Arsenal to a league win or join financially doped City?

I totally agree Pete.

There is absolutely nothing stopping Arsenal competing for trophies on every front. If they aren't good enough well that's just hard luck.

I do think leaving for trophies at this stage is a load of shite.

Plenty of games for all if we challenge on all front. We were relatively injury-free last year when it comes to options up front, and everybody still got a fair share of games, except for maybe Berbatov. If the injury curse that hit our defense so hard last year hit the attack this year (esp. to the likes of Rooney or Nani :nervous:), we'll see how valuable having quality options like RVP or Young will be.

Why is it a load of shite? Arsenal are falling way behind, so what is wrong with a player showing a bit of ambition to move on to win something. I would do, when I retire I'd want to show my grand children my medals, not talk about how I played for a team that used to win things.

They just aren't 'falling way behind' at all. Sensationalist bullshit from fans who have baulked at dollars. When in essence Arsenal could still sign 1 or 2 decent players with RVP and mount a challenge. Hell, us and even Chelsea are likely title challenges. Even now with their squad and RVP they could challenge.

Like I had said before, Liverpool or Everton or that next tier down then I can totally understand.

I just don't buy the 'I want to win trophies'. At 28(29) with one more major contract left in your peak if you wanted to win things you'd just stay at Arsenal (imo).

If you want career ez mode and winning things (in England) then you'd leave to the FOTM team like City.

(I think if he left for a different continent then I would change my tune slightly.)

Nahh there really isn't. Last year we effectively played with only three forwards as Berba was firmly out of Fergies plans. We are adding Kagawa who will be expecting to start the majority of his games, and then adding Van Persie on top of that.. Just ridiculous.

You are looking at Rooney, Kagawa, Van Persie, Chich and Welbeck fighting it out for two spots. Rooney started 32 games last year in the league, so if he starts 30 this season then that's 46 starting places to share around four players. Say Kagawa gets 20, which is conservative and he is probably expecting more, and RVP gets 20, which if he's fit is just an absurd situation as he's far too talented to miss half our games, then that leaves 3 each for Welbeck and Hernandez - which is less than Berbatov got this year.

There is just no way he could be signed and we could give all our players a good amount of games. Kagawa would have to pretty much exclusively play left, which would drop Young and give Welbeck some games when RVP or Rooney is rested, but still leaves Hernandez with none, and obviously Young.

I'm not sure why this thread is still going. He is too old and injury prone for us to spend the kind of cash that would be required to bring him here. I can see him staying at Arsenal or going to one of the mega rich clubs, but there is absolutely no chance of him playing at Manchester United next season.

If we signed him our attacking options would be unreal! 8 top quality players battling for 4 attacking spots. All fit someone wouldn't even make the bench! Arguably its overload but I'm a fan not the manager, it'd be exciting to witness.

I never understood United's fetishness towards injury prone players.

I really don't want us to sign him and I don't think we will. I think he's better than any striker we have but he's way too old to spend big money on. We've made that mistake with Berbatov already.

No need to bring Berba into this.

It defies all logic and sensibility to sign him, but wouldn't it be great if we said "feck logic" and took a punt. Would be fantastic signing last season's POTY and top scorer.

It would make sense if we played 4-4-2 next season. With Kagawa joining in i see us mowing to 4-2-3-1.

3 spots behind the striker- Kagawa, Young, Cleverley (i know, i know), Rooney, Nani, Val, Welbz

#9- Welbz, Roo, Chich

Adding Van Persie without signing a CM who can play in a 2 man midfield (thus allowing us to play 4-4-2 ) wouldn't make any sense.

I think signing him would be madness given his age, price tag, and how strong our attack already is. It's just not how we do things.

His salary and price tag won't be pretty, but he's almost as good as Rooney, better than Hernandez and Welbeck that's for sure. Only his salary and transfer fee...

I don't care how good he is, he's 29 in a month.

The Arsenal board rip the fans off. there is sensible spending and a good business model, and there's not even reinvesting a net expenditure from profits into the team.

Arse have decided that a 3rd or 4th finish achieved at the lowest possible expense is there perfect position. They are not aiming to win the PL.

Absolutely.

I'd still take him regardless! It would be like getting a Berbatov with speed and super confidence.

We all know it can never happen though:lol:

And you're usually a man of sense!

I know he's class, it's just really against our policy to spend so much on a player of his age with an injury record like that.

But yeah, never ever.

I'm not the new Jopub because I'm not quite so anti-Wenger(in fact, it would be interesting to hear what he thinks about the manager now these revelations have come out).

I just can't believe you can look at Kroenke and decide that we're acting in the most sensible way financially.

revelation as in the PR stunt pulled by Usmanov?

I cannot imagine for a second that Fergie won't give this a good go.

I cannot imagine for a second Fergie is even remotely interested. Signing Van Persie would represent an astronomical shift in our transfer strategy

I've said it a few times, but I'll be absolutely livid if we push Welbeck to the fringes after the season he's had. If we were to sign a world class ancient cripple for obscene wages to take his place then I think I might just about be done with football. Fortunately, I just can't see it happening.

The issues that he himself won't have a solution.
He is asking to safeguard any further departure of players with a year in their contract.
Tell us how Usmanov would help us.

Shocking as it may sound...perhaps, he simply wants to win trophies. Let's be honest, he's got no chance at Arsenal.

The major issues are:

- laughable to complain about Gazidis tagging them as divisive in the middle of a shit-stirring letter

- if Usmanov is so keen to help why didn't he bring his companies to the table for sponsorship?

First point, agreed.

Second point - I don't have much experience in this, but I fully imagine that it's not all that simple. Are any of his companies actually appropriate for sponsorship of a football club?

Usmanov would help us by being someone with a contrary view point on the board. There are no quick fixes to the problem we have, but it'd be useful to have a 30% shareholder on the board, especially with the influence they have in the media. It's damaging for the club running this closed shop without allowing him to actually state an opinion, which I believe it is his right to do.

If you read his letter, he doesn't take a seat in board himself.

if welbeck and hernandez are good enough then they will get games. fergie has proven that throughout his time at the club.

we are a top club competing for top honours. if a player like van persie becomes available we have to go for him. he would be a massive improvement to what we have. if that means hernandez does get pushed out then so be it.

go back to when we signed rooney, we had guiseppe rossi coming through and looking the part........signing rooney prevented rossi coming through.

I don’t understand this "we are well stocked up top" if/ when berbs goes we have three forwards. In carrick scholes giggs cleverley anderson and powell we have 6 midfielders yet people are still crying out for a midfielder. Why???? Because there are midfielders out there who will improve the team. In doing that they will reduce playing time for powell ando cleverley petrucci etc etc.

In short………van persie would walk into our team. He would link well with rooney. He would allow rooney to be rested, im all for developing talent and really hope welbeck and hernandez continue to improve. However, RVP is currently on a different level to those to and I believe his inclusion in the squad would obviousley reduce playing time for some players, but it would always raise competition for places. This would help get the best out of welbeck and hernandez, it may also stop rooney's compecent spells.

In short. I am a united supporter not a danny welbeck supporter. If RVP is good for the team/squad (he blatently is) then we have got to at least ask the question to him

He's complaining about one of his telco companies getting a cold-call letter about sponsorship. Why didn't he bring them to the party?

Gazidis must really be puzzled with all these unnecessary digs at him.
he is having his vacations, he sent a letter.
heh.
