Teyise - We must not fear United
Posted on July 13, 2012 06:00
AmaZulu defender Tamsanqa Teyise says they cannot afford to be overcome by fear when they face Manchester United in the MTN Football Invitational next Wednesday.

The Red Devils have promised to bring a strong squad including the likes of Michael Carrick, Ji Sung-Park, Dimitar Berbatov and new signing Shinji Kagawa, but Teyise believes confidence will be key for his side.

“At the moment we’re busy with our pre-season training but we’re hoping to continue from where we left off last season,” said Teyise.

“Playing against a big club like Manchester United is a rare opportunity and there are many great players who never had this chance, so I feel very privileged.

“I’m very excited but at the same time I’m focused on doing the job on the field because we will not just be representing AmaZulu but the rest of South Africa.”

Teyise also believes that the element of surprise could work in their favour as United do not know what to expect from Roger Palmgren’s side.

“They don’t know much about us and they may just underestimate us, which could create an opportunity to pull off a few surprises,” said Teyise.

“We have to respect United because they have some of the best players in the world but it’s important for us not to fear them. We have to relax, stick to the basics and enjoy the game.”

Dlamini looking forward to Red Devils test
Posted on July 03, 2012 09:26
AmaZulu supporters and Manchester United supporters are not the only ones waiting with bated breath for the 18th of July 2012 as Usuthu long serving striker Ayanda Dlamini has begun his count down.

Speaking to AmaZulufc.net in the second week of training the man nicknamed ‘Cobra’ said the match against the club from London will provide a stern test of grit ahead of the new season.
“First of all not everyone can get a chance to play against Manchester United. We’re very excited and looking forward to meeting them but more than anything to square up against them.

“Knowing that you can’t single out any player to be watchful of and, that they’re a team with quality players, what we will need to do is go all out to play to our game,” said Dlamini.

The 27 year old venomous striker has also tipped the match as a whole round lesson in many aspects for the local game.
“Besides what we already know as players on the field I believe it will provide a positive effect in our many aspects even to the spectators.

“As for me personally coming from a tough season like the ended one despite us qualifying for the top 8, I know I could’ve done better. So such a match will be a very good way for us to sharpen our game,” said Ayanda.

The tickets for the match which will be played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium were close to reaching sold out status within one week of going on sale.

I used to care about these pre season friendlies :(

Nah that is a nice stadium, was it a WC venue?

Yes, hosted the Spain v. Germany semi (so sayeth Wikipedia). Expect vuvuzelas I suppose.

So with no squad yet confirmed, it would be pointless to speculate on the starting line-up.

Like this:

Lindegaard (he's back after the Euros?)
M. Keane---Rio---Evans---Blackett
Valencia---Carrick---Scholes---Brady
Berbatov---Chicharito

With Powell and Kawaga to come on at some stage, and hopefully some time for Lingard, Cole and Petrucci.

With so many first-teamers missing from the Euros or Olympics, we should be overloaded with reserves and academy prospects to enjoy

Lucas Moura is with the Olympics team, isn't he? And Modric might not travel due to the Euros.

Lindegaard was in the training photos, so I'd think he'll be the starting goalkeeper for most of the games on the tour.

This is my quick count of the players we're likely to see on the tour:

Goalkeepers - Lindegaard, Amos, Sam Johnstone

Full backs - Jones, Marnick Vermijl, Tyler Blackett, Luke Giverin

Center backs - Rio, Vida, Evans, Michael Keane, Scott Wootton, Tom Thorpe, Reece Brown, Luke McCullough, Michele Fornasier, Sean McGinty

Midfielders - Scholes, Carrick, Kagawa, Anderson, Powell, Jesse Lingard, Davide Petrucci, Ryan Tunnicliffe, Van Velzen, Luke Hendrie, Charni Ekangamene, Adnan Januzaj

Wingers - Valencia, Larnell Cole, Rob Brady

Strikers - Chicharito, Berbatov, Federico Macheda, Josh King, Tom Lawrence

That's an extremely all inclusive list, we may well not see any of Fornasier, McGinty, Januzaj, Van Velzen, Blackett, Ekangamene, Hendrie, Giverin, Vermijl or Lawrence.

Wootton, Brown, McCullough, Lingard, Tunnicliffe, Cole, Brady, Macheda and King were in the training pics from the other day, so I'm hopeful they'll all be traveling.

Injured: Smalling, Fletcher
Olympics: Cleverley, Giggs
Possibly rested from Euros: Rooney, Nani, Evra, Young
In the wind: Bebe

[edit: nixed Leao, added others]

For the yanks out there, it's live on Fox Soccer :) - 2:00pm EST on Wednesday.

Wow, erm, this is a little awkward... Does someone want to let them know?

Yeah, I was annoyed at the manutd.com page so I used someone else who was obviously a bit out of date.

Here are the other players on the official reserve page I didn't list, and their positions according to the site:

Sam Johnstone [goalkeeper]
Marnick Vermijl [right back, midfield]
Luke Giverin [left back, right back, left wing/midfield]
Luke Hendrie [midfield, right back]
Charni Ekangamene [midfield, full back]
Tom Lawrence [striker]

I'll add them to the other list.

"The Red Devils have promised to bring a strong squad including the likes of Michael Carrick, Ji Sung-Park, Dimitar Berbatov and new signing Shinji Kagawa, but Teyise believes confidence will be key for his side."

First game of the season, and we're already lying to people :(.

If you don't have MUTV already with Sky then you can get it 3 months half price if you ring up. You have to ring up and cancel it yourself on 31 days notice but you can have it for just the one month on request as there is no contract.

Their 2 top scorers last season were Sthempiso Dlamini with seven league goals, and Ayanda Dlamini with 6.

They finished 7th in their league last season with 41 points out of 30 games.

They seem to play defensively with only 3 teams conceding less then them, however only 3 teams scored less.

There captain Tapuwa 'Camposs' Kapini is their goalkeeper.

I'd imagine they'll line up something like this, seems to be their first team

GK:Tapuwa Kapini
DF:Kasongo Bukasa
DF:Sibusiso Hadebe/Gavin Hammers
DF:Moses Chavula
DF:Celani Vilane
MF:Thamsanqa Sangwen
MF:Ntuthuko Dlamini/His brother, Goodman.
MF:Tshweu Mokoro/Ramson Zhuwawo
MF;Dumisani Zwane/Mark Van Heerdan
MF:Mxolisi Mayonga
FW:Ayanda Dlamini

Here is the official squad for the trip to Durban, credit to The Taurean from the Norway Tour thread:

Squad announced
http://www.manutd.com/en/News-And-Fe...-dhl-tour.aspx
I like this. Travelling squad: Lindegaard, Amos, Johnstone, Ferdinand, Veseli, Vermijl, Wootton, Blackett; Valencia, Anderson, Carrick, Scholes, Powell, Kagawa, Bebe, Tunnicliffe, Lingard, Brady, Petrucci; Berbatov, Chicharito, Macheda.

So Veseli is apparently a member of the squad still despite reports he's been let go. He'll likely share left back time with Vermijl and Blackett.

Bebe is a surprise, great to see Lingard, Tunnicliffe and Petrucci there.

No Phil Jones is a surprise, any word on him?

It seems Vidic will stay in Manchester to rehab as well, will Wooton and Rio play every game? A bit odd.

Cole must be still injured.

As well as new signings it will be great to see Lingard, Petrucci, Tunnicliffe, Brady and Tyler Blackett play with the first team. Really hope they impress.

Last tour we tended to switch out most players after the half, I'd guess we'll go with:

Lindegaard
Vermilj Rio Wootton Blackett
Carrick Scholes
Valencia Kagawa Brady
Chicharito

Amos
Vermijl Rio Wootton Veseli
Tunnicliffe Powell Anderson
Bebe Berbatov Macheda

extras: Johnstone, Petrucci, Macheda.
