Barcelona - a lot of moaning about them and some praise

Its just ingrained in their DNA. Thats the sad thing about it. They can't even help it...it happens instinctively.

Sounds like a genetics professor is speaking there. So does that only apply to Chileans or South Americans in general?

Manchester United certainly dodged a bullet there, getting Ashley Young instead of Alexis Sanchez last summer.

I checked their Polish forum, virtually all think it wasn't a dive and he slipped.

Must be the Polish having a refusal DNA then? The biggest English speaking Barcelona forum I have checked looks like this:

Disgraceful behaviour yesterday. After he falls he should told the referee that Sakho didn't touch him. But no, friendly game and he is rolling on the ground and making a look at his face, like he is in pain Disgraceful from him.

Pathetic dive.. What a fool.

yeah he is an exciting player but what he did was pathetic why do such a thing in a friendly.

yeah he lost balance...but after he saw the ball was already too far, he decided to fall..
that my fren,,is considered a dive...

Oh God..

He haven't slipped.

Just dived like a b*tch.

pathetic stuff really... in a friendly !

Yeah it's embarrassing, few weeks ago we were laughing at Neymar diving in a friendly and now one of our own does the same thing. We don't need this stuff, not in friendly, not in regular game.

Young isn't remotely as bad as Sanchez. He's a serial diver sure, but at least there's usually a bit of contact. There was absolutely nothing there.

What Sanchez did was disgraceful but some people need to take their hand out of the sand here.

It's not ingrained in their DNA. If that's a serious comment then it's ridiculous, considering some of their worst culprits for play acting such as Alves and Sanchez are not fecking Spanish.

People saying Young is nowhere near as bad as well need to take their hand out of the sand, I mean really. He's just as bad as all of them, with the exceptions of perhaps Busquets and Pedro, which is hardly an achievement at the same time.

Saying it's in their DNA is perhaps wrong.

But I do think it's fair to say that the coaches at the club is doing feck all to discourage their players to toss themselves around. I also think it's fair to say that this is in part due to cultural differences in football.

In addition I think Barca, and I mean this well and truly, has an extraordinary amount of serial divers in their squad compared to most other clubs. Compared to English clubs the difference is vast, although diving is part and parcel of the English game as well now. Most clubs have one, two or perhaps three in their squad that can be classified as serial divers - most learn that shit like that just isn't on, they are told by staff, players and managers.

That doesn't seem to happen in Barca, and for me it's a little bit of a plight on their otherwise splendid reputation. It's just unnecesarry and takes a bit of gloss off their success that they so strongly feel the need to cheat and con refs into giving fellow professionals bookings, or win pens. And Sanchez is quite frankly a piece of shit in my book for his behaviour, although arguably not the worst.

I still remember the Clasico vs Real, where Pedro and Busquets repeatedly flung themselves to ground with no contact, before Puyol/Xavi/Valdes/the other usual culprits surrounded the ref and demanded a card.

Little surprise that Alves dived to get Pepe sent off, the pressure on the ref was inhuman.

Seems the best thread to ask about (particularly the likes of FCBarca):

Rosell (president): "We reduced the debt with 100M in the past two years, but we need to do more because we want a new Camp Nou."

Just come across this quote - are they planning on moving, or are they still talking about the remodelling?

I visited the stadium a couple of years ago, and while it's not the flashiest stadium or in the nicest area of an otherwise fantastic city, it's still the largest in Europe - is there really a need to commit money to messing about with the stadium?

They want to remodel it - put a roof over it and possibly slightly expand. Good idea.

It's pretty much a matter of when rather than if. A team has been put together several years ago to study how best to improve the Camp Nou - the goal is more than about improving a dated facility but housing a club that that they believe befits it's legacy. They want to make a statement so it will be bold I imagine - seeing that the city's culture is renowned for its arts

There are 3 different ideas that have been floating around.

1. Tearing it down and having new construction on the same lot/area - which has largely been met with contempt

2. Remodeling existing structure (Laporta initiated this idea), which may or may not include a retractable roof & additional capacity (more than 100k?) - the most likely scenario

This was one of the early plans

3. New construction near the marina (Rosell backed initiative) which has been rubbished as far as I can tell

Norman Foster did a Camp Nou revamp design a few years back but club politics killed it.

Crackovia did a nice take on the dilemna facing Rosell and the current board - they denounced the Foster plan as extravagance but haven't yet come up with a cheaper alternative that delivers the same.

Here's Crackovia's version of the debate, complete with English subtitles (turn Youtube captions on)

Rosell announced yesterday that he'll hold a referendum on the new stadium Vs revamp the Nou Camp question.

Incidentally they do want to do something. Because of the stadium issue lots of smaller maintenance/improvement projects have been delayed at the Nou Camp

When I visited a couple of years back they were talking about remodelling it with the gaudi style architecture to match the city. The model they had on display lookd fecking brilliant.

Shame it doesn't seem to be happening now its some stadium as it is but it would have been rediculous with the revamp.

Just saw this video, a bit weird filming kids so young and the music also the video is also questionable but some impressive goals.

Proud Lyon might appreciate the Lyonnais tike, Kais Ruiz - impressive composure for a kid his age. The most impressive youth at the club atm however, wasn't in that top 10 - Lee Seung Woo

Saw that video earlier this week, was quite frankly blown away by the ability of those Barca kids. You're certainly doing something right down there.

Barcelona file complaint about refereeing during PSG match

La Liga giants Barcelona have filed a complaint to Uefa about the refereeing of Wolfgang Stark in their Champions League draw at Paris St-Germain.

Stark refused to stop play after Javier Mascherano and Jordi Alba collided, leaving both players on the ground.

Barca were also left unhappy that Zlatan Ibrahimovic's equaliser stood after it appeared he was offside.

"It was evident that the referee did not apply the rules of the game," said Barca spokesman Toni Freixa.

"When two players from the same team are on the floor, the referee should stop the match, which did not happen.

"We are fully conscious of the possibility of errors in refereeing and we do not consider ourselves badly treated. But it surprises us that in a high-level competition a referee does not know the rules," Freixa added.

Stark has hit the headlines before when he sent England striker Wayne Rooney off during their 2-2 draw in a Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro in October 2011.

Barcelona host Paris St-Germain in their quarter-final second leg at the Nou Camp on Wednesday night.

I agree in regards to the offside goal but i didn't think that the referee HAD to stop the game when players are down injured unless it is obvious that it is a head injury? There was only around 5 seconds from the players going down to the shot on goal aswell.

That offside goal was a massive error. I often sympathise with the assistants but there was no excuse for that one.

That's the bit I don't understand. It wasn't Stark's fault that the assistant failed to see the offside - it was the assistant's. I hate it when referees get the brute of the abuse when that happens.

Plus, head injuries should stop play but they barely gave Stark time. As SW said, it was mere seconds between the injury and the shot on goal. I can't blame the referee for not blowing early as well, the amount of times Barca went down with ease was countless.

They don't directly have a go at Stark for the offside goal. Just the injury.

He doesn't have to stop the game, otherwise players would throw themselves to the ground and fake injuries instead of actually defending.

Pathetic. Are they that self-entitled? We didn't file a complaint when the referee against Madrid (in both legs) fecked us over far more.

Hopefully UEFA will tell them to do one and stand behind their ref. It would be a hypocritical travesty if they agreed with Barcelona and punished the ref here. But then again Benzema got away with a similar challenge (but worse) on a Galatasaray player than Nani's and didn't even get booked, so the referees are inconsistent arseholes anyway.

Indeed.

There is no rule that you have to stop play immediately if players get injured unless it's a serious injury.

But Starks assistance made another mistake by judging them to be still in play and not calling another offside situation because of it, injured players however are not to be considered part of the game.

It was pretty apparent that both players collided with each other and not randomly threw themselves on the ground.

If anyone really is to blame for this game it's the atrocious linesman who seems to be either blind or extremely incompetent.

Ridiculous complaint, they've had more than their fair share of ref decisions. Sour grapes comes to mind. Not to mention how small-time that statement reads.

Which is how barca play if things are not going their way often enough , biskets and puyol have made careers out of pretending to be dead.

Besides, it was maybe 5 seconds between the collision and the shot, allowing the goal if hed scored would have been a perfectly fine decision.

I have a question for you caftards, this "rule" the Barca staff members and players keep mentioning, is it the usual "only the ref decideds when to stop the play when a player is down on the ground" or is it something else like "the ref has got to stop the play immediately if more than one player is on the ground" ?

One would extremely childish from them to write a letter about :wenger: and the other would actually be something new for me to learn. So which is it ?
