United vs. Barcelona [Preseason Friendly]

Young is crap. We didnt need him and still dont.

Just go you absolute muppet.

Just close your eyes and change your password so you don't know what it is.

I'm serious.

Why are you still here?

Who did Scholes swap shirts with? Seems like he always does it against Barca!

I know they love him, but still, let him keep his clothes on.

You are going to have to shout at me as well as I am not impressed with him either, I just hope the Euros hasn't knocked his confidence.

You didn't say we shouldn't of signed him.

11 goals and 12 assists in 34 appearances.

And I'm not shouting, I'm typing.

 who's still watching this? Absolutely hilarious, Lou Macari trying to do an interview in what looks like a fecking war zone.

Not saying he wasn't useful, but not sure we needed him. The money was needed for elsewhere. Alex has an obsession about wingers and wingers who can play off strikers. A bit of a fetish really.

Not an amazing match, was it?

Thought we did alright all in all, considering a lot of the players are still off the rhythm.

De Gea was very good, no mistakes, made himself big in 1v1 situations and made a few very decent saves. However his clearances weren't great, but that may be due to the fact that he's still a bit rusty (was getting better towards the end). Evra seemed composed, Ferdinand and Vidic are a brilliant pairing but seemed to get dazzled by the speed of some of Barça's attacks. However, they weren't helped by Valencia who, despite his efforts, is not and will never be a fullback. He's strong and quick, but that's about it: his positionning is too erratic as a defender to play there. Thought Carrick did ok during the second half, very clean performance. In the middle, Scholes was brilliant and seemed to thrive on playing in tight spaces (that backheel to Evra was great), but Ando had an off-night (and I'm one of the Ando lovers). Nani looked lively and technically was a beast but just lacked a bit of composure in his final delivery now and again. But was very good nonetheless. Young wasn't though, dreadful performance, hope he gets up to speed before next week! Rooney didn't seem great, but not too bad either, unimpressive I'd say. I liked Welbeck's energy and desire, he seems to be constantly progressing which is great. Kagawa didn't seem phazed by the fact he was playing Barça (nor should he), could have got a goal really but all in all a decent performance. Seems at ease in the team, should be brilliant in a couple of months when he's definitely gelled with all the players.

I thought altogether, despite it being a bit boring, it was a good performance by us and even though we seem to be fighting to score goals (which will come), the team already looks solid and disciplined.

Personally, i though it was a great pre-season game. Both teams didnt hold back... some tasty tackles going in... VERY fast paced... much of the game was 'one touch and go' type which really tests a players sharpness.

welbeck was excellent in his defensive duties... showing how you play against barca.. the front two making regular sharp incursions into their midfield passing game.

Rooneys peno was bad, a better one and we would have won the game... so im not complaining.

i don't get why people are saying it was a shit match. it was technically superb.

the ball was zipping around by both sides. we played ultra quick (when we had the ball) and it was really nice to watch. I hope it translates and sets the tempo for our upcoming season.

We did well yesterday, anyone who expected us to dominate the ball against Barca is not all there. I like most was suprised at how well and Scholes-Anderson midfield combo coped agaisnt the best midfield in the world, encouraging signs. Scholes came as close to anyone i've seen to dictate the tempo against them. The second half they pressed him like mad because first half they struggled to get near him. It must have been a culture shock for some of the Barca lads to see this little ginger english fella out-passing and out-thinking them at times.

Apart from the brilliant Iniesta and the magical messi they didn't actually threaten our goal often. Valencia and Evra did leave too much space at times but they couldn't capitalise. Second half we had Carrick at center back but he rarely broke sweat.

The less said about Rooney the better, but apart from him everyone did well. Even Young worked tirelessly and in the second half fatigue effected his play on the ball. Kagawa, Scholes, Valencia, Nani and Rio were all standouts. Evra, Ando and Welbeck were also excellent.

Ideal pre-season game imo, it sharpens us mentally and physical much more than any attack vs defense game in our favour would.

Scholes really loves putting on that Barca shirt.
