Rio Ferdinand

if alien's read the caf, all that would happen is a social epidemic of shitting in people's flipperbags.

Heard a story with a bloke at the pub today about Rio. His company's doing a contracting job for part of Rio's new house (in London, due in 2013, when his current contract expires) so he went up to have a chat with him and he said his back was in a seriously bad state. Could barely sit down. You have to wonder if it's a smart idea playing on if his back's in that bad a state.

No way in hell, unless that was in the period when he was out for a long time.

If he could not even sit down comfortably, there is no way in hell he could play on like he has done. I had a bad back injury and even taking the strongest painkillers i could get i still could hardly walk let alone run!.

If rio was really that bad he would of retired long ago.

My uncle is one of the best center backs in Iceland and he plays for the current champions. He's been playing like Rio for a few years. He's also got an old foot injury bothering him from time to time but he plays most games of the season. It seriously hinders his movements and if you watch him he sort of plays like Rio. It's not putting him out of the game but it does limit the physicality of his game so he needs to use the head more.

Of course with Rio the football is more demanding and the season is longer but he's also got the best care available to him which is why he's still playing. Not sure he would be if he were in this condition 10 years ago at his age (no smart ass jokes please).

By sitting down comfortably I don't think he means that he's in pain as soon as the ass and back are level with a chair. It probably means that in an hour or two of sitting on a couch, like most people would sit on a couch in their own home, gives him back pains.

Tomorrows Daily Mail reporting he's out of Everton game.

He tweeted he had a good session in training the other day and said he was lying on the couch enjoying a lazy day, I mentioned the Star had reported it and asked did he fall off the couch and wreck himself.

No reply as of yet, Fergies onto us :nervous:

Rio Ferdinand ‏@rioferdy5
P***ed off doesn't get close to how I feel at the moment. Sake

He's drowning his sorrows with sake because he's pissed off about the injury (or perhaps about the media fabricating an injury, unlikely though).

What is the point of having wooton and keane- who he took on tour in summer- if you are going to drop carrick into cb? Oooh its big scary everton - experience is needed. Do one. If our midfield is easy to run through due to no carrick then that puts our defence under pressure which has a midfielder playing at centre back. I'd rather risk playing a youngster who's natural position it is alongside Vidic than play carrick there and have a gaping hole in the midfield against a side that dominated us in midfield last time we played them.

Bang on

The thing is.. we wont be playing Rafael and park in midfield. We have anderson, Cleverley, Scholes all fit and fresh..

Everton bombarded us with long balls last time we played them and attacked our defence far more than they tried to outplay our midfield. Jonny Evans found it difficult enough himself so you can hardly blame Sir Alex for wanting to protect the young ones from such a tough test, particularly on the first day of the season. It could be really damaging to their confidence if they got slaughtered on their full debuts.

Because they don't have any real proper experience playing with Vidic, no understanding with him at all etc? Because Carrick performs a defensive duty close to Vidic and Rio; he's often close to them when we're camped on the halfway line etc, I'm guessing he communicates with them a lot.

Secondly, he's got good defensive characteristics; probably better than the youngsters at this stage.

Thirdly, they haven't been loaned yet (Correct me if i'm wrong); if they aren't ready for a championship club, why put them on now?

Scholes, Anderson and Cleverley are all good alternatives to Carrick there; I'd agree with you if it was like the Blackburn game. Having to play 3 players out of position (esp Rafael at CM!) is worse, but I think in this case it's better to have Carrick. Especially after the tackling against Hannover! Plus, Vidic can be more of the 'covering' player behind Carrick; Carricks used to and well able in being the CB slightly ahead of the other one i.e. the ball playing one.

If Rio is out then I really hope it's ando and clev in the middle, although scholes's experience to keep the ball would be useful I think we'll need energy in the middle to combat their runners. If Fellani is out we might be able to get away with Evra in the middle and rafael at left back though could be a disaster.

Is there a chance he can't play? Excellent.

As crazy as it sounds, Scholes would probably be a better defensive option than Cleverley or Anderson.

Scumbag Rio.

Fit for pre-season.

Injured for first PL game.

I dont believe that the tweet is in regards to his injury to be honest. I cant imagine Rio being allowed to say anything about his injury status until the team has been announced ahead of the game, just to keep Moyes guessing.

:wenger:

If Moyes follows your logic, Everton'll still be guessing!

Why the :houllier ? Dont you think it makes a difference for Everton if we're playing Carrick in defense rather then Rio?

Swear I read last week that he was facing a race to be fit. Knowing our luck he probably will be fine.

I dunno, in some games maybe, but in a game like Everton away where they will commit players forward, particularly on the break then Scholes just doesn't have the legs to stop them imo.

Thank god Vidic is back is all im saying. On his top form he is 2 defenders in 1

Of course it will.

But if, like you, Moyes believes the tweet can't possibly be about his injury, Moyes will still be guessing, meaning that everything is fine.

Well if Fellaini isn't fit then there's much less risk of that, so here's hoping!

Well, knowing Fergie, I would think that Rio would not be allowed to tweet anything that might give Moyes any insight to how we might line up. Fergie said that the players are not allowed to tweet anything Manchester United, and I would think that giving away that information would give the Everton-players a mental boost knowing that they will (potentially) face a midfielder in defense rather then one of the best defenders in the league.

It's just me guessing though, obviously you might be right, but I just dont see Fergie allowing something like this to be tweeted ahead of the game. Perhaps Rio confirming that he's injuried when the teams are announced, but I would not think he would say anything about it until then.

Well if hes not then we might be able to play Evra in the middle with Rafael at left back and then Carrick can shield as usual. Tough call though as Evra could go very wrong, but I'd be tempted to try it and if it's going badly we can drop carrick back.

Is it just my imagination or for some reason does Rio often have a mare against Everton anyway?
