Berbatov | Fulham player

Like I said the fact that he was our fourth striker obviously didn't factor in their thinking otherwise the interest would have never got off the ground. Those quotes were from Juve's CEO by the way, and if the stumbling block had been wages then I imagine he would have mentioned it. It wouldn't really reflect badly on Juventus if he had come out and said "We were interested in the player but his wage demands were unrealistic". Besides the quotes seem to imply that Berbatov made it known to him that he wanted to stay in England and that was the end of that, negotiations wouldn't have got far enough to disagree over wages.

All of which isn't that relevant considering that you're original point was that Berbatov must have struggled to find a bigger club than Fulham that wanted him, when it's clear that Fiorentina and Juve did.

We went for the likes of Owen and Larsson despite not being United material (first team level). Strength in depth is important for any club and Juventus may have seen Berba as a candidate for that if the price/salary is right.

You're giving too much weight on what Marrotta says. Owners/CEOs tend to lie alot especially in Italy. Would you like to see Galliani's statement saying that Thiago and Ibra wont be sold at any price?

I feel sorry for Berba but at his age, with his reputation, in this difficult market and after such a negative season it would have been hard for him to find a bigger club then Fulham. Things may have changed if he either accepted a massive pay cut or United allowed him to go for free.

I'd rather Dimitar Berbatov in our shirt than Wayne Rooney :D

I wish I could find a way to punch all you "Rooney in a bad spell therefore he is utter shit" guys in the face.

Squad this, 4th striker that - Bollocks

He is going to Fulham because it is the smallest pay cut that he will have to take - this isn't Little House on the Prairie.

Personal opinion. Fanboyism etc. One's a joy to watch and a classy bloke, one's overhyped and a cnut.

I'm sure Spurs fans will disagree about one being a classy bloke and both could easily be accused of being overhyped. But whatever floats your boat I guess.

Now I see. A bigger club wanting to buy him actually isn't proof that they think he's good enough to play for them no matter how much it appears that way. Clever.

There has to be a reason to lie. In your example it's a basic negotiating tactic, whereas with Berbatov it makes no difference either way. Would Juve fans really have been so pissed off if he had claimed Berb's wage demands were too high?

Or, things may have been different had Berbatov decided to join one of the bigger clubs that were interested in him rather than stay in England and avoid uprooting his family.

Of course it would.... it's the caf. Home of the megastore and ultimate modern day fan.

I accept many worship Rooney, he's a good player and like so many players around the world currently he is put on a marketing pedestal for people to salivate over.

This is going well. I'm a modern fan because I appreciate Wayne Rooney and I am pleased he plays for us.

In fairness to you though, I did go the megastore last time I was in OT :nervous:

You asked if I thought my original post would provoke a reaction, I answered with why it would. There was no underlying message within that, for all I know you could be in your 70's.

I'll break it down. If the TEAM lost Rooney, we wouldn't miss him half as much as many think. He hasn't ever been the irreplaceable heartbeat of any of our sides. However, the CLUB selling Rooney would be different. He's our marketing superstar, representing the brand worldwide.

We probably wouldn't miss Wayne Rooney as much anymore because we have the only striker in the league that was better than him last season now playing for us.

What about in 3 years time? I expect Rooney to be our main striker until his 30's.

A) I brought you two examples of players brought to improve the teams strength in depth.

B) Thats simple ie club memberships. Big clubs in italy are expected to show ambition in the transfer market especially when they are involved in scandals.

C) i find it strange thats all. http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/news/berbatov-run-ac-milan-agent-084946300.html

In the short term. I think Van Persie will be our main striker till January at least.

Either way I think that highlights how important Rooney is to the team, that only the best striker in the league from last season could really edge him out as first choice.

Its so weird you posting stuff like this when you're bigging up Berbatov a player people worship and put on a pedestal for far less reason than Rooney.

Bigging up Berbatov? All I said is personally I love watching the guy play football, a joy to watch.

Rooney to me, isn't an exciting player. He's a player capable of exciting moments.

You must have really hated Utd when McClair, Webb, Blackmore, Phelan and Beardsmore were playing for us.

They weren't exactly an exciting bunch.

:wenger: That's what an exciting player is you twonk.

Silly me, disliking Wayne Rooney equals a hate of the club he plays for. Isn't that the opposite of what a lot of the Ronaldo/Messi lot are accused of? New heights there mate.

I loved McClair, nothing wrong with Choccy at all. Not sure where to go with the others...

You are nuts, but fair enough I give up.

I simply cannot understand how a Utd fan can so under appreciate one of our very best players in the Fergie era.

At almost 33 years of age, for me he is one of the most exciting players I have seen play for us. I will leave it at that.

Think a few of you are missing Starkies's point here. Not denied Rooney's quality but simply said he doesn't find him an exciting player to watch, that's all subjective and personal to the person expressing the opinion.

Some people find the addition of Star wars figurines and original boxes to a Saturday afternoon exciting, doesn't matter if they are right or wrong it's an opinion they have based on their own subject.

Starkie incidentally is one of these people.

He made a post that was always going to get some attention. I took the bait. he then slagged off some fans who happen to appreciate Rooney as typical caf posters who visit the megastore when in Manchester.

What point exactly have I missed?

Again its opinions. I am nuts for what its worth, weird opinions on a lot of football related stuff. What I will give you is he has produced some exciting moments, not many in the last few years but a good few over his time with us. However, for whatever reason I haven't had that sense of 'joy' watching him as a player for years. Whether that's a dislike of the person, which isn't in my character to judge a footballer ( I like fecking Joey Barton), I don't know.

He said he'd prefer to see Berbatov in a United shirt than Rooney and then every point he made against Rooney could also be made against Berbatov. As well as all the extra ones.

Its like he said earlier, personal preference. But that doesn't mean you can explain it or try to convince people with a reasonable explaination. And thats where he's falling short.
