Southampton vs. Manchester United

we just dont look fluid enough. we rush the passing and nobody making good runs either.
Kagawa looking the biz still, have to be stronger againts these sides though.

Nani needs to come on for Welbeck, he's not playing well and offering us no width and because he keeps coming too far in field there right sided players can go forward without fear of being caught.

Our play so far hasn't been all that inspiring. It's been slipping into that static, zombie style that has been talked about many times lately. The midfield has been way too passive and really aren't controlling the game like you'd expect them to.

Kagawa has still looked impressive when on the ball, but a bit like the Everton game he's just not seeing enough of it. That's why I want to see him a bit deeper. On days like this he can control the midfield and be a lot more involved.

Welbeck out on the wing just doesn't work. He can put in a shift there, but I'd rather see quality players out there as opposed to ones who will work hard. He's a striker through and through; that's it. It's similar to when you put Rooney out on the wing. He'll work hard, but it's just a complete waste of the talent he does have.

We've been a bit shite so far. Slow passing, no urgency, and no threat at all from the left wing. Kagawa hasn't been as good as usual, they're covering him a lot tighter then usual and we still aren't using Rvp enough IMO. Bring on nani for welbeck, we'll be more balanced.

Spot on.It's like he is lost out there

It's weird how him being paired with Carrick seems to bring the worst out of him, been the same the 2 other times or so they have played together.

I'm amazed by how poor technically we've been.In terms of passing and controlling the ball.Thee most basic things in football.Southampton are there for the taking but United are just very bad today

Yeah that's a great idea all fullbacks please stay back even if the opponents defend with 11 man.

Of course Rafa and Evra have to go forward as much as possible against such a defensive team.

If Rio and Vidic can't deal with a single man that doesn't even always remain up front it's time to get two new CBs.

Theyve had more attempts than us. They havent stuck 10 behind the ball, hoping for the 0-0. If a team is willing to attack, then we have to make sure we dont leave them with a feckload of space to exploit. You pick your moments to go forward. He was storming down the wing when the ball is still in our half.

We shouldnt be hanging ourselves.

Appauling from our CM's.

Slow, lazy and sloppy on and off the ball.

Our off the ball pressure on teams is abysmal and has been for a few seasons. That's why we go to teams like Wigan and they can look comfortable in possession against us. If we could press them higher up the field I think we'd see a massive improvement. Like we used to do with Rooney Tevez and Ronaldo (to a leseer extend). We have really lost that in our play. We only seem to get the ball back when the other teams move has broken down with a misplaced pass or cross and very rarely on one of the oppositions first touch like a Barca or even dare I say it how Liverpool are trying to do.

Carrick's been fecking awful. He's playing at half the pace of everyone else on the pitch.

Another one who hasn't gotten himself in shape for the start of the season.

Seems to be the chief zombie passing instigator/offender too.

Carrick playing at snail pace and half asleep. Cleverly needs to show more energy. Vidic giving the ball away in dangerous positions. Not the best first half and soton wer better than us.

I think anderson has been dropped because he said nani ain't leaving
:)

It doesn't help to have Carrick playing extremely badly himself.Seems like the only way to win this is an individual effort, from RVP more than likely

Think we just need to settle down, when we do we look like we can dominate them on the ball. The centrebacks need to show a bit more authority and pass the ball quicker, in general our players are being a bit sloppy. I think clev needs to hold back a little, he's pushing on to quick, we build up much better when he stays deeper and then pushes up.

In general not bad, you have to remember that we've got a lot of players who haven't played together much, and two defenders who aren't at their best yet.

And he's the man SAF wants to base this season's European assault on. So, we can look forward to Carrick giving the ball away, leading to goals, as usual.

Carrick has zero movement and likes to take 2 touches before passing. Cleverley is gone for the return before Carrick has even decided what to do. Cleverley and Carrick doesn't work. Scholes will stand next to Michael and take the ball from him and spray passes, that bails Carrick out a lot. Cleverley looks for the give and go constantly and that just ain't Carrick.

Wouldnt take carrick off. Could make the midfield even worse than it is right now.

I don't think we've been that awful in possession. Our problem is that once it is out wide, Valencia who is very overrated with regards to his crossing, can barely whip a ball in. He seems to drill it as hard as he can into someones back or just float it across the back... what happened to good old fashioned Beckhamesque curling it into the coridoor of uncertainty.

Its a shame that Nani who possesses the superior crossing technique doesn't have Valencia's desire to put the ball into the box when he has the chance albeit he's on the bench. Then on the left flank we have Evra, who is hardly reknowned for his crossing ability and Welbeck is playing as an attacking mid rather than a left winger.

Get Nani on the right flank.. and we'll win this game, even if we don't I think we've got enough control of this game to win it, as long as defensively we don't feck up yet again.

He's made some fantastic passes through to Van Persie.

Wouldn't expect you to acknowledge them though.

Or maybe he has lost a bit of confidence after being played at fecking CB! He looked in perfectly good shape for England the other week. Lack of confidence breeds uncertainty, considering this is the first game he has played in midfield with any of RVP, TC, Kagawa and Welbeck. So it's hardly surprising that we have very little understanding with the passing and movement.

So much quality among the team yet so erratic. This team should have done much more in the first half, let's hope we can start playing football.

You are easily impressed! We have been very languid and sloppy.

Lots of massive overreaction going on in this thread!

As we know, there are no easy games left in the PL, its the 3rd game of season, we have been very unsettled due to freak injuries in defence and an influx of new players and are away from home.

I'll take 1-1 at half time any time in these circumstances with a very strong bench to make the difference in 2nd half

Noodlehair he's been performing at centrehalf where the pace of the game is slower now he's stepping into midfield what is a quicker pace he'll need to sharpen up. But to say he hasn't got into shape is just ridiculous he's not playing great today but who is?
