Manchester United vs. Wigan Athletic

Looks like Maciek woke up on the wrong side of Poland this morning.

I wont be surprised if we see Hernandez / Welbeck partnership up front, if there is anything in RVP having a niggle injury. Seems a typical match for SAF to field one of his weird once-a-season experiments with pointlessly fringe lineups :D

De Gea
Rafael Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Valencia Carrick Anderson Nani
Welbeck Hernandez

or

De Gea
Rafael Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Carrick Anderson
Valencia Cleverley Nani
Welbeck

More than enough to beat Wigan at home.

We're still ridiculously stacked in the striker department.

If Chelsea had their two first choice strikers injured they'd basically be left trying to shoe horn in Hazard or Mata as a false 9. Liverpool would be left with Raheem Sterling. Arsenal would be left with Chamakh ().

To be fair City would still have Balotelli and Dzeko.

It always happens in the third or fourth league game (remember Burnley?)

Unfortunately its getting more frequent than once a season (Cheers Phelan)

I think Cleverley needs a break for this one. We can play 4-4-2 with Chica and Welbeck up top. Carrick did not play internationals, so he will start.

I would like to see Chicha start. The formation Wigan usually employ should suit him to a tee to be honest. They play a really high line and I am not sure how good the new Spanish guy they have is, he was certainly exposed against Chelsea in the game I saw.Add to the high line a back 3, which as always with a back 3 has a weakness down the sides and if I remember correctly we play with wide men, so should hopefully get round the outside as well.

If we get the ball wide, the back 3 gets pulled out, leaving huge holes that Chicha and A.N. Other are certainly good enough to exploit. So we should have 2 avenues if Chicha plays, through balls played to utilise his blistering pace over the first few yards and out wide and driven balls played in for his timed runs.

....................................but, we are United, so will probably not go like this, 2 nil down to set pieces before a dramatic comeback to win 3-2.:nervous:

De Gea
Rafael Vidič Ferdinand Evra
Carrick Anderson
Valencia Welbeck Nani
Hernandez

that would be my guess, since Cleverley will probably get a rest and I don't see Fergie resting Evra. I might be a bit optimistic about Nani starting, but in my opinion he should. RvP and Kagawa both picked up slight knocks so this would be a perfect opportunity to rest them and avoid agravating whatever their problems are and also give game time to Hernandez and actualy play Welbeck in a central position to which he is suited, even if he can do a job on the left he's still not as efficient there.

20th October v Stoke, International break on the weekend 26th-28th - and then again on the 3rd November.
The October international break is before our game vs. Stoke (Newcastle away on the 7th, Stoke at home on the 20th).

prefer the first option, though I think Scholes will be in for his 700th game, in place of Anderson. Dont fancy Welbeck up top on his own

Lindegaard

Rafael
Rio
Vidic
Buttner

Valencia
Anderson
Carrick
Brady

van Persie
Welbeck

6-0 United

Noice, I expect this.

DDG
Rafael - Ferdinand - Vidic - Evra
Carrick - Cleverley
Valerie - Kagawa - Nani
RVP

Blitz em nice and early and lets see Ando, Welbs and Hernandez come off the bench at some point to get some game time. You never know if we're cruising in the second half we might see Fletcher, with it being a home game if we were nicely ahead I wouldn't it it past Fergie using it as an opportunity to help boost his confidence, a home game is the perfect place to test the waters or him.

Pretty much this, except I think Cleverley hasn't been overly impressive this season in the deeper role so I'd like to see Anderson or Scholes given a game.

Id agree but i think we seem to send out the weaker option and then throw on the big names if it isnt going right.
Id much prefer to get them on and have it won by half time, then rest them as its much harder to lift the team if they've had a bad first half.
Unless Scholes pulls off another masterclass like at Southampton.

Possibly the wrong type of game for De Gea. Physical side like this will put him under pressure in the penalty area.

With the midweek game and Liverpool away coming we have to take all three games into account with this team. I'd guess we'll see something like:

Wigan:
De Gea
Rafael Rio Vidic Evra
Cleverley Scholes
Nani Kagawa Welbeck
Van Persie

Galatasaray:
De Gea
Rafael Evans Vidic Buttner
Cleverley Carrick
Valencia Young Nani
Welbeck

Liverpool:
De Gea
Rafael Rio Vidic Evra
Scholes Carrick
Valencia Kagawa Young
Van Persie

Why do you hate Anderson? He'll start at least 1 of the next 3 matches. Maybe even 2.
