Anderson

I thought he had a reasonable game but with Fletcher sitting behind them, the impetus was really on Anderson and Cleverley to get forward and create something - which neither of them did fantastically well.

What I would have liked to see from Anderson was a few more surging runs forward with the ball, taking players on, beating them for pace to create a chance. Still he had a decent game on the whole especially as we were playing an unusual formation which meant he ended up covering out on the right flank a lot, which I don't think helped him.

I don't think those surging runs were possible as we had no width so all the play was narrow and against 11 men behind the ball

Exactly. There was no space at all to run into. it was good he moved to the side but I just didnt understand why to the right and not to the left

Didn't think he was that good last night at all tbh. Fletcher and Cleverly were far more impressive for me.

True - couldn't really pull of those killer passes through the middle either for the same reason. Despite having his two main strengths nullified because of the way the opposition lined up, he still played well though.

OK, but wasn't too impressed at all. I just hope I'm missing something. Was more encouraged by Fletch. Bit of a yawn all round but hey, job done.

Personally I think he was the most impressive of our midfield trio yesterday, although all had a good day barred a few awkward moments for Fletcher and a long period of invisibility from Clev. He looked good on the ball, strong as a bull as always, and even managed to get a few of his runs going despite the fact the midfield looked like a bus during rush hour in Delhi.

What remains now is to see if he manages to stay fit for the rest of the season. If he can I think he'll be able to play an important part of the team, if not this could very well be his last season at OT after years of injury issues.

The lad looked fecking stocky and i wasn't sure he was going to last the full 90...but end of the day he was the most consistent of the three midfielders yesterday.

Too early to make a call though. Cluj are an average team and we were essentially playing 5 in midfield so if you can't dominate and keep possession there's something fecking wrong with you.

Fletcher started really well, putting in a few good tackles and intercepting the ball off their feet but then faded and ended up looking a bit ragged by the end. Gave the ball away in a few really dangerous areas when we started getting nervous in the last 15-20 minutes as well.

Cleverley was far better mate.

88% of 111 passes were accurate, so his passes werent that erratic.

I'd say in general they are, there's still a sense of not knowing what he's going to do when he gets the ball, sometimes it looks like he doesn't know what he's going to do himself.
He's started well anyway, like last season.

I thought he was the least impressive of the three. Maybe he didn't have much defensive responsibilities but I saw the usual Anderson, strolling back after we lose the ball. He just runs out of steam way too early.
I don't know if he's told to take it easy after so many injuries, or he's naturally incapable, or he's just a lazy fat arse but if he's going to make it at United, he should improve the fitness part of his game greatly.

I thought his passing was largely excellent. He's a bit like Giggs in that respect, hell always play a few that leave you scratching your head, but he finds and pulls off others that are completely unexpected. Given how predictable the rest of our play is, that's really important.

He still spanks them about twice as hard as the recipient's expecting...

I don't see how you saw Fletcher as a better performer than him yesterday.

I thought that about Cleverley to be honest. Sometimes, he seems like he's full of ideas, but don't have the courage or confidence to execute, other times like he has no idea what to do next. Even that he did good yesterday, I thought Anderson did better.

Does anyone know how much Ando ran? I felt he was better physically yesterday than that against Newcastle. But maybe he ran less with Fletcher behind him.

I thought Anderson played a good match yesterday. Even in the closing stages he was lively, and relieved some important pressure with a couple of bursting runs forward in the last couple of minutes.

He's never going to be a natural when asked to play as a crossover between a midfield shuttler and a wide midfielder like yesterday, but I thought he moved around well, played some neat, intricate stuff and contributed positively to the tempo of our play, as opposed to say Fletcher who I felt slowed us a bit down.

He is dynamic, strong, decent defensively and can pick out a pass but his shooting technique is awful. Well I think its panic more than a technical deficiency

Imo, there's nothing wrong with his shooting. He shouldn't be judged on snapshots with the ball coming to him awkwardly.

That's the most baffling thing. :D He keeps his teammates on their toes. Receiving a pass from Anderson is a challenge.

I love anderson, but he needs to work on his fitness..
This isnt a 'he's fat' post.. but he looks knackered way too often. He should be able to run around for 90 minutes.

He sorts that out and stays fit, he'll be a very good footballer.

aye, he did fade a bit later but that's to be expected. As long as his health is ok he'll soon get back to fitness. We miss his energy in mf.

Good dynamic play from Ando today, need to see him, Carrick and Cleverley in behind Rooney, RVP and Welbek.
