Ah, I didn't think our performance against Spurs could be compared to City's against Fulham. They were very good on the day. We were completely shit. And we really only had them pinned back in the second because they already had a lead and were winning the game. And of course the point about being at home (which he does raise).

I was talking about completely dominating your opposition in the second half, as you pointed out about Fulham - City game. Didn't Tottenham make only 35 passes that second half, it's shocking.

Yeah, and Scholesy made 80 by himself.

Yeah, but they were two goals up and decided to sit back. They didn't really care if we passed it twenty times around the half way line. We finally got back in the game and they just went and got another. It's not as if we were able to do that at 0-0.

We played well in the second but pinning an opponent back for most of a game away from home is one thing and pinning an opponent at home back when 2 goals down is another. I would expect a United or City to do that when 2 goals down against Spurs at home simply because Spurs would sit back.

Poor today, no confidence at all, played out of position and looked toothless. The quality is there in glimpses but it looks like it's going to take a while before we see his best football. Should never play on the right again for starters.

Started well then faded quickly. Would prefer to try him on the left where he supposedly plays for Japan and did very well last week against spurs.

He had some nice link up play at fines but he didn't look comfortable there. Personally I think if we played more of a 433 with him in an advanced role it would take some of the defensive burden off him and allow him to drift and influence in the way mata and silva do.

He wasnt that bad. He wasnt involved in any clear cut chances, but he links up well with everyone and is a great posession player. His ability on the ball was a huge factor in us soaking up Newcastle's pressure during the first 20 minutes when they pressed high with no result.

I think we looked worse as a team after Valencia came on, despite Kagawa being far from what hes capable of. He suits the system very well - it just needs to kick off a bit for him, which will come with game time and sticking with the same attacking players in an extended run of games.

He's not having the best of times at the moment. Out of position today though so can't really blame him.

He should either play centrally or on the left. If we play the system we did today more often, he'l be very good.

He looks very weak on the ball, easily shrugged off.

Also, we dont know what his best position is

Agreed. I didn't think he was bad at all. I think he'd be better suited to cutting in and getting involved playing on the left rather than the right though.

I think Fergie took him off because he can't defend. You can tell he prefers playing in the hole rather than other positions, not only because of his ability on the ball but also his lack of defensive game. But yeah Koroux is right, Rooney is very good right now in that position Kagawa wants.

Loads of people on here suggested playing him in centre mid, obviously doesn't suit him.

we do. we didnt play him there though today. it happens really, 1 bad game is nothing.

I think his best position is where Rooney played today. Unfortunately for Kagawa, there is no way he's going to dislodge him if Rooney carries on playing the way he's doing at the moment.

I feel Kagawa's been off it since the soton game.

The game passed him by. He is new to the league and still settling in.

But what gets on my tits, is seeing posters write such shit as him wishing we played like Dortmund in threads during the week.

He plays for a club so much bigger and better than Dortmund.

I think he has shown glimpses of what he can do. I am pretty confident he will be a good player for us. But there has been a few games thus far where he has been non existant.

I am sure he is learning a lot.

Yeah, the best game to gauge if he can play in centre midfield or not is a game where he didn't play in centre midfield.

He did play in centre mid next to Cleverley, Carrick deep and Rooney at the tip.

Where do you think he played?

I think his recent form puts paid to this idea some folks have that we need to change our system entirely to play through him. He needs time to adapt. He'll be fine once he settles.

He played on the right hand side of a diamond. Not exactly centre midfield, is it?

 That's exactly what it is.

One defensive midfielder, two central and one attacking.

So when AC played the diamond for example did Gattuso and Ambrosini not play centre mid?

I already talked about that this is bullshit, Dortmund plays better football then we do no doubt, but we are one of his dream clubs in the league he dreamed about playing in since he was a little boy.

Playing for us is as much a dream come true for him like it is for Ronnie playing for Real.

He wasn't really playing centre midfield though, since he was expected to provide width. I wouldn't class where he played today as centre midfield to be honest, it's an inbetween position for me, neither wide nor central but a bit of both. I think he'd have been better on the left side of that line-up, with Cleverley on the right.

Yes but there's no reason why the 2 cant play together in a system where they interchange frequently. One on the left, the other through the middle.

Definetly one of his worst games, but you can't blame him when he's shifted out wide. Sure, he's probably played there a couple of times - but when you compare his potential in the centre and his performance on the wing, there's no comparison.

Yeah if he's going to be on the wing I think it needs to be on the left so he can cut in more naturally. Today he was playing as a winger which doesn't suit him at all really

I am starting to get worried that he might become our new Berba - classy player but not suit for our system/no suitable role for him in the team

Once we have a proper right winger/wide-player available he'll start in the AMC position or as a left side attacker. We would switch to a 4-2-3-1 and he would be cracking player in that formation.

Its obvious Kagawa is a class act

he struggled badly at Anfield and struggled today when Newcastle came into the game

He looked under pressure when in possession a lot and seemed to struggle with the pace of the game

It's just going to take a bit of time for him to adjust - once he settles his versatility in attack will be great

as someone said a few posts ago - Rooney played today in the position Kagawa looks best in - you can't displace Wayne when he is playing as well as he has been the last couple of games

Quite worried about him right now if I'm being honest. With Rooney back, he wont get to play in that role he loves, and will either play wide or not at all and he isn't very effective out there.

They played together and interchanged beautifully in the second half vs. Spurs. That was a glimpse of the future.

Carrick with either Ando or Clev and...

-------------RVP--------------
-----Kagawa----Rooney----Val/Nani

Or

-------------RVP----------------
-----Rooney----Kagawa----Val/Nani

Should work wonderfully.

He clearly works harder than Berbatov. Meaning he is still usefull when not on his game.

He will never be the new Berbs

I'm not worried by him at all, he's only shown glimpses thus far of what he is capable of. The Premier League is a step up in quality and the pace can be a shock to the system at first. Got to remember he is in his first season playing for Manchester United...he is now competing for a starting berth with a whole host of fantastic attacking players...it will improve his game and force him to up his level of output.

Give him time he will deliver. Look at Silva he took a good season to fully settle in at City. I think the hype pre-season was a touch OTT and a lot of people had unrealistic expectations of the man.

Everyone who has watched him at Dortmund knows that he is perfect for us once he's settled

Where do you think he played?

He didnt play central midfield. He was in a position in between the midfield and where a more classical winger like Nani or Valencia would have been. Not in an out and winger position, but clearly not centrally either.
