Serbia vs England U21 - The Incident

What constitutes provoking by the way? Celebrating? Does Evra's "over" gesture constitute provoking the crowd? Does Gareth Bale's silly love heart thing?

If the crowd can't handle black players celebrating a goal without hurling missiles and chairs at them, then sorry, it should be closed doors from here on in until they learn.

Rather pathetic justification for an on pitch brawl, racist chanting and missiles on the pitch. "Yeah, but a couple of the players had the temerity to not be cowed by our macho bollocks. Plus they looked at us funny...And one of them did something with his hands!!"

This and the referee needs taking to task for not red carding the Serbian players who attacked Rose.

After England goal he came right to the east stand and was showing something with his hands in front of the Serbian crowd, couldn't see what exactly, even Sterling was trying to provoke at half time.

So two black players then. Could it be they were the ones provoked? It's not like them to go out of their way to try and anger a bunch of angry Serbs without reason.

This isn't Serbia's first instance of this craic. I'm all for banning them for a massive amount of time - feck them, they're nobodies and football won't miss them.

It's about time this sort of thing was cracked down on properly by FIFA/UEFA and if the Serbs don't like it, let them piss off elsewhere and ruin the reputation of some other sport for a while.

Like I said, several times now, I am not trying to justify any actions of Serbian crowd or players, just painting a whole picture...

Fair enough, It's just that there seems to be a blank bit of canvas in the centre of your painting because you couldn't see what Rose was doing.

How was Sterling provoking them at half time?

He was not only kicking the ball, he was provoking the Serbian fans before that, that's how it all began.

Not a justification for what happened after though, really ugly scenes...

The monkey chanting was heard in the first half when Sordell was taking a corner. Way before England scored in the 90th minute and way before any "provocation" from Rose.

So that what you've just said about "that's how it all began" is bollocks.

They need to be banned from a tournament because they never learn. They've had previous as well haven't they of crowd trouble and racist chanting.

They're fecking backwards if you ask me.

From the video Butland looks like a bit of a hero, really trying to get everyone down the tunnel and stopping flash points.

Firstly, of course it's true, I was at the game, secondly, I said in my post before that that it does not justify those actions at the end of the game, I am just saying this because a lot happened that was not caught on camera.

so what else happened then from your perspective?

So can you confirm when any of the monkey chanting and missile throwing started?
The reports would indicate that the black England players had been getting abused since the start of the match - in which case you can surely understand Danny Rose's reaction.

If Serbia have had previous history of it, they should be banned from football for some time for sure.

Englands Lion Mk 2.

Credit where credit is due, as I say I've only seen the video but someone taking the lead like that can really help to diffuse a situation as well as showing a lead for team mates. At u21 level its impressive not to be caught up in the atmosphere.

A young player reacts badly at the end of a game when he has been targetted with monkey chants from before the kick off? Give the kid a break. How upsetting must such abuse be?

Serbia should pay heavily especially since they have form.

Didn't Serbia get in trouble for something similar this Summer at the Euros too?

It's about time they were dealt a hefty punishment.

Yep, why the hell are we out there playing football with people still in the dark ages of football anyway?

Oh yeah, more money for Fifa/Uefa. As usual they'll do feck all, then one of these shitty little countries will do something really nasty and it'll all be a big thing. The warning signs are there.

Obviously racist chants do not belong in football, you won't see any normal Serb (football fan or not) deny that. As far as the racism goes that was poor and we should be fined/punished for it.

What happened afterwards was a result of England players provocation. If you dance around giving it the biggun you will expect some type of reaction - and in Serbia it will find you quickly. We don't know what happened with the coaches or players as a lot of it was off camera.. but as the coach said the England players weren't angels themselves.

As for the repercussions, if we were banned then it wouldn't surprise me.

Agreed. Celebrating a win is awful and needs to be stamped out of the game. Literally.

They should have just gone to their sidelines and celebrated with their staff/people instead of provoking a hostile crowd. Common sense really.

You don't think the England players were provoking in any way? Then why would it cause such a reaction from our PLAYERS? Forget the fans.

If I'm abused for a full game and win then at the end I'd probably dance around a bit too. A big "feck you" for the abuse. If the abuse doesn't come then we don't see the reaction at the end. Simple.

To be honest, what happened at the end isn't even the issue here. We see handbags at the end on a fairly regular basis of high pressure matches.

What is the problem is racist abuse. Again. Until something is actually done we'll continue to see this happen.

The players are clearly wankers. And I'm surprised even you're trying to justify the reaction from the classless Serbs.

No, I'm agreeing with you. It's perfect justification for the players to be neaderthals and want to fight.

Next time we beat Liverpool and celebrate, I hope Gerrard smacks Carrick one.

What sort of provocation justifies a brawl like that? Surely not just the act of kicking a ball into the stand that racially abused you.

I am sure they were spitting as well. Kick all levels of Serbian football teams out of all international and club competitions until they become civilised.

You see Rose taking in deep breaths - he was clearly trying to push back his emotions. The players had been abused from before the start of the game.

They were professional throughout the game and only when they won did they celebrate - to release some pent up anger and stick it to the fans hurling abuse.
