Manchester United vs. Braga

Half time. All of the goals are in the OP.

Bad start but we should be able to win this.

Lol when our offside goal should have stood did anyone else notice how fast it was dismissed like it didn't matter?

We will probably win. But really poor in the most part from us.

Apart from Carrick the team should be fine. And even with Carrick in defence we should be more than capable of putting braga away

The attacking play has been very enjoyable and great.Too bad SAF keeps insisting on playing Carrick at the back despite it being a disaster each time :wenger:

very much a half of 2 halfs.
First 20 mins we was rubbish, the last 25 mins played some good stuff.
Rooney and RVP played well and we are creating chances.
Trouble is that Braga look very handy each time they have a break.

Our attack is really good and our defense absolutely cringeworthy. How on earth is it possible that it's mid October and you haven't gone down in just 3 matches at this point of the season? It's getting embarrassing now.

So...Rooney was supposed to be one of the most inconsistant players huh? :) Just sayin, he's been nothing but class since coming back from injury.
And the way he & RvP are linking up is just sex.

Once we started we've been playing some really nice football going forwards. Hernandez' runs are looking dangerous at times and stretching their defence, there's definitely more goals coming from us, I'm pretty confident we'll go on to win.

Wooton on and Fletcher off.

It really annoys me how Fletcher often refuses to make himself an option for the pass, always puts pressure on us coming out

Our defending is just abysmal. This worries me because you simply cannot win the league defending the way we have been.

And the commentator was more like "it might not be offside". If it was the opposing team, we'd never hear the end of it.

I don't get the decision on this diamond formation

I understand that it can make us more solid in midfield

we did that very successfully when winning the CL with 4-5-1 with Rooney left

this feels more like Fergie trying to pigeonhole a number of players into a formation which clearly isn't as effective (will it ever be when some of our most talented players are wingers?)

If he wants solidity then play Kagawa/Rooney deep in midfield in front of Fletcher and Cleverley and stick Young and Nani wide

RVP should have been rested

You're just too much of a Rooney fanboi. It comes through every third post of yours.

And neither of them has been phenomenal or anything. They're both having pretty good games but neither has decisively affected the game really.

Rooney looks like he has reached a new level in terms of off the ball movement, he's always been great at that going forward but now in his defensive work he really positions himself well.

It's worrying, yes. But if you look at it from a slightly "positive" point of view, we haven't had any stability in the back apart from Rafael, we're down 3 CBs and need to keep Rio fit for the Chelsea game or he'll burn out. I think it's safe to say our defense will improve when we actually have enough defenders to choose from.

Fletch, Büttner (defensively) and Carrick have been disappointing. With Fletch and Büttner you can understand a bit of a shakyness but feck me Carrick shouldn't be as easily skinned as he has been

This is just an all too familiar position we are finding ourselves in. Trailing because we can't defend for shit. We have such a soft center it's embarrassing. I fear for us in the Chelsea game. Where is the organisation?

I know we've had a fair few injuries but this is the worst Manchester United defence I've seen for a long time. We are shipping goals for fun these days.

Carrick is a wonderful defensive midfielder but he has simply never, ever had a good game at centre half. So why o why does Fergie persist? Wooton should've been given the nod.

Same old European performance that we have put in this season and last. Sloppy goals given away,Good attacking play on our part but overall its a struggle.

He's not a defender.

Yeah, Carrick is the worst CB I've ever seen in my life. Pity he's a fecking midfielder, though.

I very rarely criticize the manager but I think he's cut his nose off to spite his face here. He's made a point by not picking Ferdinand and it's backfired, massively.

If he was really only resting Ferdinand, Carrick would have been whipped off immediately after the second goal, or at least moved into midfield and Ferdy replacing someone else. He hasn't done so, IMO because he left Ferdy out for personal reasons, rather than football reasons.

I'm saying in general. Are you going to deny Rooney's been in great form?
And also, I didn't say they won us the game, I said their link up (so far from what we've seen in games where they both played together) is phenomenal. Are you going to deny that?

Yes, I'm a Rooney fan, but nothing in that post I said is anything but true. Do you have a problem with me, Rooney, or me liking Rooney as a player? I don't get it.

My river died. Anyone have a new one?

Kagawa's been poor so far, assist aside. First touch is really molesty, and his passing has been off. Luckily Cleverley's having a good game, some very good long ball/crosses from him. Hernandez is doing OK, chasing around well and putting pressure on them.

Why Carrick is playing CB, I'll never know. I'd rather see Wootton there, if Ferdinand absolutely cannot play.

I actually don't think it's anything like last season. We have controlled this game for the most part and haven't had trouble keeping possession. The defending on their few chances has just been atrocious.
