Manchester United vs. Queens Park Rangers

I just want to state beforehand, so that no-one can accuse me of knee-jerking afterwards: That's an unbalanced side that's far from ideal. And there's a couple of bizarre selections there.

Fletcher-Scholes as a midfield two? The two players who's looked the most off the pace this entire season?

Young still playing? Despite a number of shit performances?

Lindegaard being preferred to De Gea based on.. well, nothing

Smalling being benched due to actual defending?

We're in for some zombie football me thinks.

1. You don't know it's a midfield 2 yet.

2. Young has barely played and Valencia has been far worse than Young has.

3. Agree, don't get that.

4. Smalling wasn't really ready to play two games in a week, by SAF's admission but because of Evans' injury there was no choice. It makes sense he's being given a rest.

Reckon it'll be a 433 as well. I like the front four and fletch and scholes could be fine but I really can't understand why neither ando or clev can get a start in the league atm. It really doesn't make sense as we're getting no consistentcy in the middle and really should be trying to get at least 1 of them involved as much as we can. Particularly with the set up it looks like we've gone for I can't understand the choice of scholes as his long pass out to Valencia won't be on. Welbeck will drift inside as will young most likely.

QPR: Cesar; Mbia, Hill, Nelsen, Traore; Derry, Faurlin, Mackie, Taarabt, Dyer; Cisse

5 changes from last game.

Nothing to worry about on paper (I mean the players in bold shouldn't even be playing in this division) Except Taarabt, who will score or set up a goal today. 3-2 United.

I think we are the only top side who will pick a different midfield pairing every week. From Anderson - Cleverley, to Anderson - Giggs, to Scholes - Carrick, to Giggs - Carrick and now Fletcher - Scholes... It's not really ideal at all

can we please not start rotating the fecking goalkeepers again?

Even if it's a midfield six I'm still not having both Scholes and Fletcher in CM at the same fecking time in the PL. It's astonishing.

What on earth does Tom Cleverley have to do to get some game time? He's been our best midfielder this season by a country-mile. And Anderson's been the second best.

So expect slow zombie football again today. We'll win this because are forwards are magnificent, but well make hard work of it because our central midfield will be bypassed easily. Expect Rooney to sacrifice himself and do most of Scholes running.

I'd say Lindergaard would've been in vs. West 'Am anyway. With Carroll, Nolan, and Allardyce you know you're gonna get brute force. So it makes sense to give Lindegaard some game time, as he hasn't had much. de Gea should be back in next weekend.

Ferguson is making some proper strange decisions this season.

As much as i love Fletcher, he shouldn't be anywhere near the first team at the moment.

could be that the boss himself isn't sure what's the best midfield for us neither. trying so many different line ups is a strong indicator of that

1. It's only a midfield three if you include Rooney in it. Which is a laughable decision in itself with Anderson and Cleverley nowhere to be seen.

2. Young has played plenty. If someone offers you a choice between eating shit, drinking piss or doing neither, you don't choose piss just because it's better than shit. Young and Valencia have both been very poor, and neither deserves to be playing today.

3. Yup, agreed.

4. Agreed. I don't have a preference between the two of them really.

I posted on the previous page about how odd that line-up was.

Upon further analysis of it, I'm even more perplexed about it. Why, oh why, do we persist with systems and personnel within those systems, when they clearly don't work? Danny Welbeck's confidence is going to be ruined by continually playing him out of position, our goalkeeping fiasco continues and our central midfield today looks shaky to say the least, too.

Just plain bizarre.

Valencia hopefully dropped, after that "performance" against Norwich he deserves not to be playing.

It's also surely down to the lack of a consistent line up that our performances on the pitch are suffering.

I don't disagree with that, it's ridiculous and I hate it. I want to see Anderson and Cleverley starting as many games as possible. The reason for not picking them is the reason they should be picked: Experience. The team put out should still beat QPR at Old Trafford quite easily though.

And yet he still hasn't tried the bleeding obvious one featuring our two best midfielders in midfield.

It´s not the midfield I would have picked but have faith and support the lads. We can moan about formations, selections etc after the match if things don´t work out. Come on UNITED!!!!!

Fletcher and scholes

We'll get away with it because it's QPR but I fear another dull game of football. Scholes doesn't run anymore and Fletcher has looked off the pace so far (but still miles better than I thought he'd be). So expect the those two to provide nothing in terms of dynamism and forward runs. It's basically a 433 with Rooney as the mobile tip of an otherwise motionless 3.

We'll still win easily I reckon. QPR are horrible. We've got too much even discounting the midfield/selection.

In fairness it's an eleven that really should be beating QPR at home, comfortably too. If they don't it's the players that should be looking at themselves, and not Ferguson.

Anderson and Cleverley will both be fresh for the rest of the season because I'm quite sure Fergie will play them in midfield later this season.

Yeah the rotation is really odd, I could understand this if clev or ando had been playing lots of games and then we thought we'd rest them but both have been in and out of the team and by te looks of it scholes will burn out soon, so instead of getting half a season of properly bedding in clev and seeing what he can do in our usual line up an first team he's been in and out and so when the second half of the season comes and scholes is looking knackered etc instead if having a confident clev, with some good experience in c/m we'll have someone who's hardly had a chance to get any rythem, having played in a diamond for a few of his games here and as an a/m for England, no safety net in scholes who wil likely be knackered and then either ando or fletch who both have their own fitness issues.

Very strange choices in our midfield use for me so far but then that was always gonna be an issue when we had clev and ando on one end of the experience spectrum and giggs and scholes on the other, but still think we could have focused more on developing the former two with scholes and giggs as insurance rather than constantly chopping and changing and getting no cohesion in the middle.

^Bloody right^.

2 deep lying midfielders to sheild the back 4 and a mobile front 4..
Can work great if we get it right... Depends on QPR and how 'up for it' they are.

I just want a good game. Dont be slow and predictable.

When was the last time Cleverley played two matches in a week? Fergie is doing the right choice in being careful with him after the injuries he had last season, but then of course it would have been better having him against Norwich and QPR and rested at Galatasaray.

Yeah but instead of both having built up confidence an an understanding of their role/teammates, particularly in clevs case who hasn't played a huge amount of first team games with scholes and giggs as insurance in case they don't play we'll, we'll be going into Xmas/the second part of the season with a clev who's not had a real run of games, and increasingly tired looking scholes and ando who's had an even more stop start season.

Carrick is in worse form than Scholes and Fletch is one of the obvious candidates to replace him.

Moreover we've seen Rooney used in a midfield capacity on occasion this season.

Until we known otherwise i think there is some hope for optimism.

It's better than Scholes-Carrick/Giggs-Carrick/Scholes-Giggs at the very least.

You don't think Ferguson should be looking at himself if we lose this game? Seriously?

Yes, the players have to perform. But if Fletch and Scholes get overrun in midfield, the only thing they'll see when they 'look at themselves' is one player who's much too old to be starting games, and another with ulcerative colitis.

And yet he still hasn't tried the bleeding obvious one featuring our two best midfielders in midfield.

It's unbelievable really, he says one of the reasons we became so good was because he was never afraid to our his faith in youth. Well when was the last time he trusted his younger players? Our two best midfielders by far this season haven't started a game together in the league, and our best keeper who is 21 keeps getting rotated with someone who is just decent. Really don't get his team selections this season. We'll still probably win the game but hopefully on Wednesday we put out a good team selection (aka de gea, cleverley, Anderson, all in and no young)

I think we're letting the statue pick the midfields.
