Saturday 1st December 2012
Barclays Premier League
Madejski Stadium
KO: 1730 GMT

DDG
Rafael Rio Evans Evra
Valencia Carrick Anderson Welbeck
Rooney
RVP

Finally, a game on TV.

Hope we persevere with today's midfield. They need time together.

With Rooney playing behind RVP and Welbeck. Hernandez as a sub.

De Gea
Rafael Ferdinand Evans Evra
Carrick Anderson Cleverley
Valencia Rooney
Van Persie

Maybe Nani for Valencia if he's fit, although no chance SAF will do that. A bit unfortunate for Smalling to be dropped as I feel he's done really well since he's come back from injury.

De Gea
Rafael Ferdinand Evans Evra
Carrick Jones Cleverley
Valencia Rooney
Welbeck

Keep RVP and Anderson fresh for City

Another 530 kickoff?

We usually don't do well in these and with City playing before us (at home) there's pressure on us to perform.

As a forewarning, will be going to an event on the Saturday and there's a 99% chance I'll be shit-faced come kick-off. Hope my posts won't be too bad....

I'm guessing this will be a typical away game with Reading pressuring us in the first half and sittin back in the second. That's why we have to atart with more
mobile midfielders and get Scholes on for the final 30 minutes if we need to apply the pressure and get a goal. We need Anderson and Cleverley to start and keep up with the runners in their midfield and get Scholes on when we need a goal in the 2nd half.

any of lindegaard or de gea is fine to me. credit to lindegaard, has done well since coming back to the side.

no point of playing young. he is out of form. starting him would be like wasting one substitution option later on. with welbeck and rooney on the pitch we could change from 4-5-1 to 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 automatically.

hernandez on the bench, he is much better coming off it.

If we play Scholes in a two-man midfield we're in for a bumpy ride away against them.

They'll run as hell.

I can see us playing a similar team to the one that beat West Ham:

de Gea
Rafael Ferdinand Evans Evra
Carrick
Cleverley Anderson
Rooney
van Persie Welbeck

Ferdinand and Welbeck over Smalling and Hernandez are pretty straightforward changes. Rio will play this then be left out for Cluj in preparation for Man City away. Welbeck may well not start this as he's probably more likely to start against Club, but we'll see. I wouldn't be surprised if Scholes started but I like the midfield three we played against West Ham.

I'd like to see:

De Gea
Rafael---Ferdinand---Evans---Evra
Carrick
Cleverley---Anderson
Rooney
RVP---Welbeck

Hopefully lessons will have been learnt from Norwich away, and the team will give due respect to hard-working lower-table teams that are playing the game of their season when United visit. Lindegaard hasn't done much wrong, but De Gea remains first choice in my view; Smalling and Evans could continue together, but as I don't expect Rio to be anywhere near the Cluj game then there's plenty of time for him to rest elsewhere. Cleverley and Anderson getting more time on the pitch together to give the Caf orgasms, and finally Welbeck starts upfront ahead of Hernandez this time, with Chicharito available from the bench if we need rescuing.

But I expect what we will actually see will be the traditional winger formation, two-man midfield of Carrick and probably Scholes over Giggs, though of course Sir Alex might start Giggs on the left if Young is moved to the right if Valencia is still out.

We can play the old-timers in the Champions League next week. I'd keep the team close to the West Ham one, although I'd try to play Nani ahead of Hernandez if that is at all possible (fitness permitting). Hernandez can do the substitute thing in the second half.

I'd like to see a dress rehearsal of the side for the City game in this, with any changes to be made in midweek.

Id play the same team as against west ham. Although id probably bring in Welbeck to start ahead of Hernandez and play De Gea in goal.

Id save a mixture of the old and youth for Cluj and then go full pelt the following week against city.

The youngsters should be getting the nod next week. If not now what is the point?

So..er...not the same team :)

Let me rephrase. I'd play a very similar team with just maybe one or two changes but keep the formation the same.

I would love us to play a midfield three of Scholes Powell and Cole for the champions league, maybe Petrucci over Cole if he's fit.

Would go for a strong team, we've got City next and you wouldn't exactly say we have a first team settled yet, if the diamond or some form of it is gonna be the way forward whilst the wingers are injured/in poor form than we need to get more time with it, plus just more time for the likes of clev and ando to find their rythm. Next game in CL which doesn't matter so can use a strong team.

It's getting too predictable, either we:

Lose - Mass suicide on redcafe cos our defense is shit, de gea is shit, partnership between rooney and robin not working, evans is shit, nani should feck off, scholes and giggs are too old
Draw - Mass suicide on redcafe cos City will take the first place and all the moanings that comes with it
Win difficulty by overturning a goal deficit - Mass suicide on redcafe cos we're making things difficult for ourselves again
Win easily by a large margin - Mass suicide on redcafe cos we're are not consistent

Come on Manchester United! Prediction: 0-7 (yeah feck it)

You forgot

1-0 - Where have all the goals gone?
4-2 - Where's our famous defense we'll never beat Barca
3-2 comeback win - Why were we ever behind to need a comeback?

So, what are we thinking then? I'm expecting to see:

Lindegaard
Rafael Ferdinand Evans Evra
Carrick Anderson
Young Rooney Welbeck
Van Persie

Same team please. Or at least same midfield. Every game you give them they'll get better. If Rooney gets his act together a bit more, then we'll turn some of that good football we were playing against West Ham into goals.

EDIT: I wonder what it will take for SAF to stop using Young. Will he keep getting games regardless of how terrible he is just by virtue of being our only winger? At this point I'd rather Fergie did almost anything else. If he insists on playing a winger, could he not play Evra there, with Buttner at LB? He'd be at least twice as effective as Young.

No not Evra as a left winger. He's great going forward but he's not nearly effective enough to play that position. Sure he can beat a man, but it's not as if his crossing is the best in the world.

Yes but still miles better than Young at the moment, no?

Meh, Young is pretty much useless for us and very predictable, he'll try and cut back and then whip a cross to the far post. Evra would beat a man, get to the edge of the box and then aimlessly whip in a cross. I think Evra's become far more consistent recently to consider taking him away from LB, he's become the Evra of about 3 seasons ago.

Id rather we didn't play with wingers and just go with the diamond.

Me too, 100%. I'd like us to play the exact same team again. But given that that's unlikely, and that for some inexplicable reason Fergie keeps playing Young, from the bench if not a starting position, I was thinking of ways he might indulge his winger addiction without having to resort to Young. As you've basically said above, Evra may not be perfectly suited to the role but anyone would be better than Young at this point.
