so, it's either Messi, Ronaldo or Iniesta

what do you think? the player that you think deserves it more will win it? or you think you will be dissapointed

Messi. Anything otherwise is just people getting tired of him winning everything and/or Ronaldo bias from his time here.

Messi deserves it, and he will win it. He is the best player in the world, therefore it's simple, anything else would be big surprise.

Messi. He's been the best, he is the best, and he deserves to be recognised as the best.

The idea that he shouldn't receive it because it's someone elses turn and a change is needed is ridiculous. I feel sorry for the likes of Ronaldo and Iniesta, but the best player should receive the award.

Imagine in 2009 if Liverpool had been given the title because we'd won too many and it was deemed fairer for someone who'd been a contender but hadn't won a title in a long time to receive it. It's on part with that. Messi will get it and he deserves it.

The best player in the world (TBPITW) does not always win this awards. It's also not called TBPITW award either.

Each has deserving merits
Messi - goalscoring marks and TBPITW
Ronaldo - won La Liga, EURO semifinalist, and for not the above would have set a new league goal record
Iniesta - won EURO but overshadowed by his clubmate

But Messi will win it whether one agrees or disagrees. I'd vote Ronaldo based on winning La Liga over the other two nominees and above individual statistics. It's not like Messi won't win this award multiple times in the future.

Messi is the only one who has any claim to it.

Iniesta was awesome at the Euros but had an average season for Barca. Wouldnt begrudge him winning though as he's just pure sex.

Messi probably deserves it.

can't argue with this.

Messi has never been more deserving. Ronaldo is very much deserving of the 2nd spot as is Iniesta of the 3rd.

It's the old Ballon d'Or and FIFA's World's Best player award merged into one as of 3 years ago.

I'm of the opinion that the best should always win, regardless of how many times they might win it in the future. This isn't the Oscars.

It's an award for the best Individual player in the calendar year. Therefore It should go to Messi, the 2009/2010 season perhaps showed (and rightly so) that it should be given to the best player and not weighted heavily towards the player that has won the most trophies (otherwise Torres and Mata should be in the running this year).
If he won it that year with stiffer competition from the likes of Iniesta and Xavi (La liga AND World cup winners) and Sneijder (Treble winner), then I'm pretty sure he has his fourth Ballon d'or in the bag.

Messi deserves it but Ronaldo will win it due to the ludicrous thinking that team success is the most important factor.

Ah because these awards have never been about popularity contests.

buckooo1978, Dyslexic Untied, ha_rooney, mariachi-19 & antisocial, you're wrong.

Ronaldo might win it based on the league title. No question it should go to Messi though, he simply can't be touched.

Come on MrMarcello, the guy is about to break the all time scoring record in a calendar year, the all time record, and you think Ronaldo was the best player this year??

Iniesta was not good enough at the Euros to justify winning ahead of Messi. Sounds ridiculous given that he was probably the best player overall, but it's not like he was dominating every time he set foot on the pitch. He was definitely not at his best.

As far as league form goes, there's just clear daylight between Messi and everyone else. He's become more like Ronaldo in the sense that he is far more focused on goals than overall play, yet he has still been superior in all aspects. Better goalscorer, better provider. If it is an award for individual achievement, I think it'll be quite silly if Messi doesn't get it this year. The difference between him and Ronaldo in the league is quite clear, and there is simply no comparison between Iniesta and Messi's league form in my opinion (as good as Iniesta is). Had Iniesta been putting in performances like he did the other night every week, it'd be a different story.

Agree with the majority vote. Ronaldo is unlucky in that he is better than many previous winners, but not as good as Messi.

I think theres a couple of other Madrid players who can count themselves unlucky missing out to Iniesta's Euro's performances.

Massive fan of Iniesta but he didn't have a great season for club and I can think of some Madrid players who did very well for club and at the euros

Do they do it based on calender years?

There's not really a specific criteria. Just who you think is the best at the moment really. But when you're making up your mind of that you tend to think about the very recent accomplishments (titles gained in May, international tournaments in the summer, Messi about to break a record etc.). Some might think "Ronaldo has scored x many goals in the last 200 games" and base their decision on that kind of extended form. But whatever you think about Ronaldo you can basically apply to Messi as well.

I think we'll see ratios similar to last years where Messi got 47,88%, Ronaldo 21,60% and Xavi 9,23%.

Sure but I don't think they'll be too bummed about it. Hard to argue with that top 3 really. Be interesting to see the votes from that 25 man shortlist though.

Split it three ways imo. At least Ronaldo and Messi will be aggrieved if they don't win it. It will be harsh on either of them not to.

Iniesta could realistically win it. Can't separate them in my eyes.

Well, he justified why. The TBPITW doesn't always win and and he agrees Messi is TBPITW. He looks at it probably more like "Footballer of the Year" and there can be a lot of ways to interpret that.

Nah. No way Iniesta is winning this. Every national teams captain and managers vote is equal. Loads of Carribbean, Asian and African nations that are going for either Messi or Ronaldo. Those two are just so globally huge now.

Fair enough. I don't think he will but he's there... So he could :D

Split it two ways then. You physically can't separate R+M from the absolute ceiling of the elite in the world of football these days.

Messi's better than him. It's as simple as that.

I don't think it's even debatable who should win it, especially if Messi breaks that record..

It's getting a bit Cal?ish here.
