Sir Ryan Giggs

Some of his passes to Evra were fantastic. I still've no problems with Giggs on the wings provided Scholes doesn't play.

It's always been abundantly obvious he has plenty too offer. He just shouldn't be starting games. That's all.

Used in the right way, and look, he's still effective. What a surprise.

Created more in 15 minutes then Valencia did in an hour.

Uh huh. Agree. I think Giggsy is better used starting out left and being able to join the play than stuck in the middle and left to chase strong, physical players. He's still got the ability to beat players and cross well and that served us immensely in the short period he was on. Had he come on earlier we might have actually won.

Impressive. I think he can still offer much coming on from the bench.

What role, super sub when Welbeck is left on the bench and three other more likely options are injured

Steady on.

It was a nice 15 minute cameo and should be seen as just tjat, this season should be where it ends.

He was very good today. He shouldn't be starting games for United at 39 but he's a decent option off the bench.

Actually looked impressive when he came on. I think he showed that he's actually still semi-capable with a football- it's more his decision making, lack of pace and inability to do it over a full game that's the problem. I have no qualms if Fergie knows how to use him though.

He's actually still semi-capable with a football? Well I fecking never! Who'd have possibly thought it?

So willy and so much guile in his game. I knew he was going to make an impact the moment he was subbed in.

Giggs on the left and Young on the right certainly is preferable to todays starting pair.

Hate to break it to you Nick, but Welbeck has been very poor this season. On the wing he has resembled Dirk Kyut, in that he has been the ever inglorious 'defensive winger'. Maybe we could have run him down the middle but Jav is possibly the best striking substitute in the world.

Some of his play and comments around here would've made you thought that he was completely useless.

He should've Zlataned that opportunity at the end ;)

Brilliant cameo, although I think our expectations from what wingers should or are supposed to do have dropped quite a lot with Val and Young on the wings.

Nonsense. He's still capable of game-winning moments of magic, but only when used right as he was today.

Your mental.

We looked a different team when Giggsy came on. Brought some composure and creativity to team.

Used correctly today and made a real difference.

Great stuff, but I hope it proves to Fergie when he should be played and against what sort of opposition rather than being started again because of it.

He's still a creative force, it's just he shouldn't be asked to play in the midfield two. Against Chelsea in the league cup he was fantastic and that was playing ahead of Fletcher and Anderson. Use him like that and I'm not complaining.

But Fergie will be thinking, the wingers are pretty bad at the moment. Giggs played pretty well here, let's start him in the next game.

Or practical.

One quarter of an hour should override all else we have seen? Would you trust him just the same for even 45 minutes?

Some people on here have a real hatred of Giggs, even when he hasn't played badly, people will watch the games looking for mistakes.

He still can play a role. He has to be used properly, i.e. On the left or as the advanced player in a 3 man midfield.

It's not his problem that Fergie has tried to play him in a 2 man midfield.

Bull fecking shit.

Spot on.

To continue on past this season would be primarily an act of charity on the club's part.

You tit.

As the sane ones have said, when used correctly he's still a real asset. Sticking him in a two man midfield from the start of a game is a nightmare. Bringing him on and letting him drift around on the left hand side is where he's best now. Some great passes today.

Think this is what we all knew. He should be an impact sub on the left side rather than a starting CM.

The difference a winger who can go out side, beat a man and pick out a ball can make to our play. :)

I'm not saying he can't be seen as an option for the remainder of this season given the right circumstances. This being particularly so with Kagawa, Ando and Nani injured or Welbeck deemed wrong for the game.

However if i didn't feel that Giggs should continue his career next season before today and that for both the sake of the club and his reputation, it would be pretty inconsistent to go back on that because of one good cameo appearance today.

We have young players coming through, there'll be new ones bought, others retire, squad evolve.

Alternatively i suppose i could use today's spark amid the embers to perpetuate a decline.

Even if it was in a brief cameo as an impact sub, he played his part as well as anyone today. Hardly a career highlight but good to see him still able to prove his worth.

He was excellent. Beautiful that volleyed cross when it was chipped over hid head - not many of our players could do that. And lots of other nice touches, including a drop of the shoulder that totally did his man from a standing start. Also a good long ball over the top that Hernandez should've committed himself to.

It's not really about using him in the right way, Giggs approached the game in the right way giving the team what it needed. It has been a while since Giggs has played wide and been so direct. It's the kind of thing he can do, cutting in from the left and playing decisive passes. It's not necessarily what he has been doing this season, but he looked alot sharper today.

He's Giggs. He'll never forget how to play solid football.

Let's enjoy while he's still runing down the wing.

Gave us what we needed today which was someone who could run at players and put the ball in the box. Unfortunately for us, our front players weren't up to scratch today. Rooney was fecking awful and Valencia...just get the ball in the box instead of playing the staring game for 5 minutes before you decide to pass it back.

Like the above post, he was the only one who ran at players today and actually not piss around with it. Showed a much needed urgency - Rooney, strangely, looked like his mind was somewhere else. He was asleep the entire game, and Valencia did not help. Van Persie had 0 support all night, and still carved out the most chances.

The perfect kind of game for Giggs. If we have posession but trouble creating or scoring goals hes a great player to have on the bench. He was not better in posession than usual, did his trademark high risk passes, but when we are struggling against an opponent sitting back, thats what we need.

Its a shame not one of the attacks he set up on the left or that volley came off.

Very positive contribution.

I think the circumstances of the game when Giggs gets subbed on makes a huge difference to quality of his' performances. Against Sunderland he was subbed on when we hadn't long conceded a goal and Sunderland were starting to apply the pressure a little bit. We were already starting to get on the back foot so it is difficult for a player like Giggs come on then and to have an impact we need when were effectively under pressure.
Today Giggs was able to impact upon the game in a really positive way because at this point Swansea were just looking to soak up the pressure and escape with a point. Giggs was afforded quite a bit of space and because we were more or less bombarding them he wasn't having to chase the ball and he wasn't being pressed much which is where his deficiencies can be exposed a little. Today he was able to do what Giggs has always done best, and I don't think any of us here will have any issues with him being used in this way in the future.
