Wednesday 26th December 2012
Barclays Premier League
Old Trafford, Manchester
KO: 1500 GMT

De Gea
Smalling Vidic Ferdinand Evra
Carrick
Kagawa Cleverley
Rooney
Cheech Persie

No wingers in form, much change formations.

This please.

I fear Fergie will rotate heavily and play Scholes & Fletcher in midfield, Welbeck and Giggs on the wings and Lindegaard in goal.

I'd like to see the above team but I don't think Rooney will play, nor Vidic so soon after 90 minutes; plus I'd be surprised if Kagawa was fit enough to start. I reckon:

de Gea

Rafael
Ferdinand
Evans
Evra

Welbeck
Carrick
Cleverley
Young

van Persie
Hernandez

SUBS: Lindegaard, Smalling, Vidic, Giggs, Valencia, Fletcher, Rooney.

De Gea

Carrick Cleverley
Rooney Van Persie Young
Hernandez
4-0, Rooney, RVPx2 and Hernandez to score the goals. Kagawa will hopefully get a few minutes as well.

This. That said Newcastle are a terrible side with a lot of players out so we should still sneak it. But I think we're going to have a very uncomfortable afternoon if Fergie goes for the mass rotation.
Also Giggs on the wing doesn't seem too bad an idea. He did more in his cameo than Val and Young did all game.

People dropping / resting Rooney after one poor performance?!? As bad as he was, he links so brilliantly with RVP that he has to okay if fit at the moment.

I'd like to see him playing deeper, with Young, RVP and Welbeck as a front 3. Hernandez to come on if needed and hopefully an appearance from the Kag at some point...

Any chance of Raf or Smalling featuring?

Newcastle hasn't been the same team this season as last, and it seems they haven't gotten things together yet, so I'm glad we're playing them now.

That being said, they seemed to have our number last season, so I want us to take them seriously. A crunch of games is starting, but at this point we're talking about two games in a week, which all our starters are able to handle.

SAF will probably have a surprise for us with an eye on WBA, who sit on 30 points with Arsenal, Everton and Spurs. I can definitely see Scholes or Welbeck starting, or maybe Nani comes in with Giggs and we play with wingers, who knows.

But it was our diamond, and a fine display by Anderson, that took care of a strong Newcastle side at home in the LC this season.

De Gea
Vermijl Wootton Keane Buttner
Fletcher
Cleverley Anderson
Rooney
Cheech Welbeck

2 weeks later we used the same formation to beat them 3-0 away.

De Gea
Rafael Ferdinand Evans Evra
Carrick
Kagawa Cleverley
Rooney
Persie Welbeck

Thinking about that game makes me miss Welbeck and what he brings to the team.

Lindegaard
Jones Ferdinand Evans Evra
Carrick Cleverley Scholes
Young Hernandez Van Persie

That's what I expect we'll start with at the moment.

We need to give Hernandez a match as well - Rooney is rested

I'd go with that

Rooney needs the bench after that awful display today

What is Newcastle's squad looking like? Injuries, suspensions, etc.

Hope we don't overdo the rotation, as I can see a tricky game for us otherwise.

That's reasonable, but what benefit would we get from rotating GK?

I'd also personally start Vidič again - festive period is a good chance to clock up the minutes. He gets better with a run of games. Would also be good to keep back line consistent.

Diamond worked brilliantly against this lot the last time out, think we should go with it again.

DDG

Rafa/Jones Ferdinand Vidic Evra

Carrick
Cleverley Kagawa

Rooney
RVP----------Chicharito

Is Kagawa likely to come straight back into the starting lineup? He's not even trained yet, has he?

Probably right now you mention it, I don't think he comes back into training until Monday. That'd make going with the diamond difficult unless Anderson's back, neither Scholes nor Giggs are really suited to the extra workload that a diamond demands of the midfielders.

We'll drop Rooney or Van Persie for this one.

All depends on how fresh Fergie thinks they are.

With 4 games in 10 days, maybe they only need to be rested once each for the period.

If so, do you rest them both together, for say the West Brom game, or one each for the 2 home games.

I'd probably start them both v Newcastle, who are probably still a more dangerous opponent than West Brom even with players out.

Then I'd give both Welbeck and Hernandez starts v West Brom.

I read that Anderson will be fit for the WBA game, so we will be short of options for Newcastle by the look of it.

I'd be inclined to stick Scholes in for Rooney (rest) and Welbeck in for Valencia (form) - otherwise pretty much the same as today.

If Anderson is back that quickly that'll be terrific.

I feared he'd take until mid to late Feb to get both fit, and capable of lasting more than 60mins..that's his usual turn around time.

When we was originally injured, I think the diagnosis was four weeks, so by the end of the month he should be ready. Don't see that his fitness levels will have dropped that markedly in such a relatively short spell on the sidelines. I favour him, marginally, over Cleverley at the moment as I think he asserts himself on games more.

Where did you read that? I highly doubt Anderson's going to be back so soon.

I haven't seen even a whisper about Anderson, and with 3 league games in the next week or so, i'd be amazed if he's involved.

Can't see Kagawa being involved either if I'm honest.

Both SAF and Vidic mentioned in their post match interviews the return of injured players being important in these next few fixtures so I'm hoping at least one or two of Kagawa/Nani/Anderson/Rafa will be available
