Giggs did well when he came on the other day, but I'm sorry, doing well against a half dead Swansea team doesn't justify starting a game when the last X number of starts have shown it doesn't work. He and Scholes starting together makes me nervous, add in a shockingly out of form Valencia and next to feck all options from the bench and I'm not expecting to enjoy this match.

I cannot understand that bench selection at all; it's madness, regardless of whether this works out or not. I also think the barcodes are being underrated today, Anita and Marveaux are decent players, and the front two will definitely cause us problems.

I'm sure I'm not the only one with a vision of Rooney with a paper crown on his wig & mince pie crumbs around his gob as he shouts for more beer and turkey kebabs, but it could be that SAF doesn't think much of Newcastle's chances & is resting Wayne.

I'm more worried about Valencia's side more than anything else, we all know about Scholes' tendency to continuously pass to Valencia - Smalling needs to provide a lot of support or Valencia will be left having a staring contest with his fullback for 90 minutes.
Fear not, with Smalling at the back we are reassured.
I dunno can't see it personally esp after last year, plus hasn't Rooney just given an interview where he wanted to make amends after Swansea? But either way there must be an attacker in the reserves avalailable, Powell/macheda/henriquez etc who could be on the bench just in case.

Very thin bench in terms of right back, wide positions and up front. An injury in any of those positions and we'll be playing people out of position.
Giggs should be nice and fresh at least. It's Scholes I'm more worried about but I'll give him a chance. Strong back four at least and thank goodness Fergie's stopped mucking about with the goalkeeper too (for now!).
