Great news on Nani, though until he signs a new contract I'm not taking anything for granted. Just hope they're close to something but that does look promising.

Just hope it's true. Definitely gives us something different. In a game like today with what we were trying to do in terms of intricate quick passing he'd be brilliant.

Hope it's like 3 years ago when he came back from a long absence and tore teams apart.

Given Fergie says we need him and acknowledges that he offers us something different to our other wingers gives me hope that it's not just the PR bullshit before the sale.

Okay, at least we know he's really injured (and should be back in a couple of weeks) and he's staying. Great news.

Now, hopefully it won't take him too much time to find good form.

Despite press speculation, SAF says #mufc need Nani as: "He offers something different from the other players we have."

SAF says Nani's on a break in Dubai to aid his recovery. He said:"He's got a future here. Why would I want to let him go?

Via Mandy Henry

Im sure we have sent a few players to Dubai in their recovery, so it has to be legit. Doesn't change that there seemed to be something wrong. I would be ecstatic if he stayed.

Amazing it took this long before someone asked Fergie about Nani's future.

Makes it easier to spin transfer stories, and when that dries up ask the necessary questions to keep things ticking over. We are an easy target, because we don't always bother to come out and rubbish stories.

I would say so, after the CC exit at Chelsea SAF was openly critical of him which made me think he was definately off. There were also quotes where Nani said he knows why hes not getting much playing time.

Still i'd be over the moon if he signed a new contract and stayed after resolving whatever issue there was but i usually take whatever SAF says about players with a pinch of salt. Nani could be off in the summer but SAF wants a unitied dressing room until then.

Well I'm shocked. I thought it was nailed on for him to leave. I would have put a good amount of money on him leaving if there was a betting market on it. Incredible news.

A what?

I'm rapt that he's staying and still part of SAF's plans. I never quite got why people were convinced that he was gone. There were basically no credible quotes saying he was off, just journalists putting two and two together and coming up with five. And considering we've basically got no cover for Valencia and Young except Kagawa and Giggs it would've been madness to ship him off. Hopefully now he can play an important part in the run in. We could do with him seeing Valencia's current form.

I'm still quite convinced he'll leave before his contract runs out.
Any journalist worth his salt would have asked Fergie whether or not they're working on renewing his contract. Fergie just says it runs out in 1½ years.

manutd.com has him quoted saying nanis agents are working on a new one but he doesnt know how far they are

Super news. I still have no doubt there has been a few issues but perhaps they have managed to resolve them. Get him back, sign a contract and for this season it will be like a January signing.

Good to hear, but still feel he'll be off in the summer.

SAF actually says they are working on a contract and that there is no way he will let a talented player like Nani leave. I suspect SAF will get what he wants.

Fairly conclusive from Fergie. If we suddenly sold him in January he'd look like an utter liar!
Out until mid Jan in the quotes I saw though....so not imminent return.

The bits in the press that don't make sense, are rumours of a move to Arsenal!

If we won't pay his asking wage, how will Arsenal!?

Wenger's denied the story, today.

Great to hear. I still think there's more to this injury though. Maybe part of this is Fergie offering Nani some time to get his head straight and think about his future.

Certainly positive comments from Fergie though. If we let him go we'll go on to regret it IMO.

I was pretty sure Nani would leave but these comments from Fergie are encouraging and hopefully the club and the player will agree a new deal.

Was he ever getting sold in Jan though? not for me. If he goes it'll be in the Summer in the event that he doesn't sign a new deal, think that was always the case hence why ideas of an injury cover up were just silly imo.

Selling him in the summer would make sense if his camp really are being fools over the contract.

Last summer we tried to bring both Moura and Hazard in, so it would have been really interesting how we'd have tried to fit everyone in...

At least one of the wingers would have to have gone.

With Hazard and Moura gone, we've probably assessed that there aren't any replacement available who are better or as good as Nani.

It was one or the other, not both and I'm not sure we'd have had to sell.

And the US have never landed on the moon...

I'm not saying he isn't injured. I've no doubt he is or at least has been. But over 2 months with a hamstring injury that hadn't required surgery is very unusual.

"It’s a hamstring injury he’s got. A player like Nani has never had a hamstring injury ever – I don’t think he’s ever had many injuries with us. But he’s got it right in the top and it’s a bad one".

I think it was Shimo but he said this tripe has come up ever since Nani has been here or something like that only for it to be resolved in the end. Looks like he got it right again.

I really don't know why so many thought he would be sold in January. I don't think he will leave, but surely it would have to be the summer if it were the case, selling in January makes no sense. Plus we could very clearly use Nani considering the form of our other wingers, why we would get rid now when he's needed more than ever. The frozen out stuff wouldn't really make sense either, we were playing Pogba right up till he left, why would we weaken our team purposefully just to send a special message to Nani?
