I hope its a 5 at the back.

West ham will be pretty up for it with this being a home game so it will be tough for us if we are going to line up with no ball winner in midfield and just two center backs.

Stronger line up than I expected.

Looks like Rafael will play from the wing. Will be interesting if it's Kagawa or Welbeck who starts on the left side, I'd like to see Kagawa given an extended run there to see how he does.

I remember the time we tried Evra on the left wing...everyone turned on him until he went back to left back.

If Rafael does happen to play as an out and out winger, hopefully it works out as intended.

I was thinking the other day it would be interesting to see Evans as a d/m, just in front of the defence, got the technique and range for it, so could be him there or a 352 with wingbacks. Could simply be a 442 with raf wide but would be nice to see it with Evans in dm, plus I think scholes and clev arrant a great duo together and would benefit from an extra guy in there.

Average positions are likely to be something like this

de Gea
---Smalling - Evans - Vidic -------
--------------------------------------- Buttner
----------Rafael ----------------Scholes ------------------
Cleverley--------------
------------------------------- Kagawa
-----------Welbeck
Hernandez -----------

West Ham without Diame, Noble, Reid, O'Brien of their usual starting eleven.

Love this line-up, even if it is classic 'tactical anarchy' from SAF. It's a lopsided 442 (with Welbeck playing inside forward and Rafael as a proper winger. Or you could describe the same formation as a 4231, but I see Cleverley pushing quite far forward if given the opportunity. And Rafael will probably be a touch conservative to be thought of as part of the 3 of a 4231. So lopsided 442 is probably the best description. Whatever it is, I like it!

More sexy link-up play between Danny, Tom and Shinji please!

Yeah I'd say that's about right, maybe with Welbeck dropping a bit deeper to help in midfield and I think Rafael will spend a lot of the game further up field.

I'm excited for this, should be a good game.

We may see Welbeck forced to drop wide a lot, and Kagawa coming central to get involved more, and Cleverley pushing up a bit higher if we're playing well (no small 'if', Allardyce knows how to make it hard for big teams.) But basically, agreed.

They said they'd see how the pitch was with Fletcher.

This is maybe a stronger squad than I was expecting. :)

Yeah, a newbie posted this article:

http://www1.skysports.com/football/...bsence-down-to-collapsed-Old-Trafford-surface

Darren Fletcher's recent absence from the Manchester United side was down to heavy winter pitches, according to his manager.

Fletcher has had just one minute for the first team since 5 December, raising concerns about the midfielder's fitness after a long absence battling a bowel condition.

Sir Alex Ferguson, though, says he has been forced to protect his fellow Scot from poor conditions at Old Trafford and elsewhere.

"The pitches over the last few weeks have not suited Darren," Ferguson said.

"They are really heavy pitches. Unfortunately, Old Trafford seems to have collapsed in the last two weeks.

"We have had six great years out of the pitch. Our groundsman, Tony Sinclair, has done a fantastic job. But it is looking tired now and I think we will have a new pitch in the summer."

It's impossible to know how we will line up these days, could be a 4-2-3-1 with Rafael as a conservative winger but that selection could play a proper 3 at the back, which seems to be the fashion these days.

Wouldn't mind us trying that out, with Kagawa behind Welbeck and Chich.

Real test for clev today I reckon depending on how we line up in the middle, if its just him and scholes he'll have to adapt his game or we'll be more open than usual in the middle.

Not too sure about that midfield. Is it the smallest, most physically unimposing midfield we have ever put out? If not it can't be far off.

Don't know what type of team WHam are putting out, but let's hope they don't have anyone who likes to carry the ball through the centre!!

Fingers crossed, but personally i would have liked to see someone with a bit more strength in the midfield alongside Clev, possibly Jones rather than Scholes. Scholes better off coming on late, than starting nowadays.

Interesting lineup:

1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 2 - 1 - 3

Original if nothing else

Any concerns about the defensive capability of Scholes in an XI like that? Cleverley will have to be mindful of of not being too cavalier IMO.

WHam!: Jaaskelainen; Demel, Collins, Tomkins, Potts; Diarra, Collison; Vaz Te, Nolan, J Cole; C Cole.

Subs: Spiegel, Reid, Jarvis, Taylor, Noble, Spence, E. Lee

Yeah agree with that. If it is the line up most are guessing then Kagawa, Clev, Scholes is pretty lightweight, might struggle against Diame if he plays.
