Sir Ryan Giggs

He has a football brain, that's what sets him apart from the likes of Valencia.

He kept firing passes at Kagawa for a while, who kept losing it. Then there was that great opportunity for a header. Just when I was getting annoyed he switched up the play and sent a perfect long ball to Van Persie.

He's such an impactful player for us in the big moments. We should be thankful.

What a legend. He's such a good option to have on the bench. If he is used properly, he can go on into his early 40s - I'm certain of it!

Delectable ball to RVP.

He was used correctly again today, came on when we needed a goal and did that job.

This is what Ryan Giggs is all about. Yes he misplaces passes at times, but mostly because he has the balls to try the low percentage passes, which if they come off can be devastating.

Using him the way he should be used, bound to reap the rewards.

Showing the goal again... Christ that really is some pass. The ball was bouncing as well! Best assist from a United player this season?

Pass of the season so far. To hit across it, first time, on the half-volley, have it travel 60 yards and drop inch perfect beyond the defender into RVP's stride was incredible.

Does any player in football history have a better footballing brain than Giggs? He's like the anti-Walcott.

Giggs seems one of those players who could adapt his game over and over again to last forever. What a player!

His all round vision and football intelligence was on show, from spotting RVP's run to the his own clever run to get on the end of Rafael's pass.

That's how he should be used, as an impact player with ideas when we're struggling to break teams down, or as left winger.

All I can do is smile at that assist.

Great pass from a great player. I hope those writing him off feel silly.

He's 39 and still producing world class moments for us. There'll never be another.

His vision and use of the ball is just  I want him just a few years younger so he can play week in and week out again :(
But anyway the way we use him atm is right I think.

a few seasons ago he was flourishing as a central midfielder and we thought days of seeing giggy running down the left wing is over because of his age. now he is turning things back again. :)

Since coming on against Swansea it's like he's a new player. I'm sure the way we use him is a part of it. Maybe he's also past the Olympic hangover. When he can do that, the odd cameo with the odd game changing moment, he actually is worthy of another contract.

He's been our best winger since the Swansea game. It's amazing how much of an impact he can have when Fergie isn't messing around and playing him in midfield.

He's shown no signs of slowing down this season. He's still our most creative player and the one player who we can trust to produce a pass or cross to get us out of trouble. He'll most likely play for another couple of seasons.

Being used properly, playing really well. Shocker.

Keep him away from the middle and he is perfectly fine.

He was playing in midfield when he did that you gimps. Played well in centre mid too. It's gone from "he should retire" to "he should only play 30 minutes" to "he should only play on the wing" - it's only a matter of time before he has another great performance in the middle and then people will have to do the full 360.

It's people's way of avoiding having to say they were wrong.

But he didn't start mate. That's the point. I and many others have been asking for him to be used this way. It was perfect.

No, the point is that many were saying he should "retire/feck off/save some diginity..." not that long ago, not mentioning people who were speculating why Fergie is even letting him play till now, one theory I believe included SAF being too old to know what he's doing..

Yes but when he has started recently he's been just as good - it's just been in another position so people can still cling onto those doubts.

I was one of those who assumed he was very close to reaching the end of the hill...but how hard is it for someone to see that as a football fan, you're bound to talk nonsense from time to time.

If we can get a bit more out of him whilst using him sparingly, and somehow find a way to replace him properly, there is no issue with people questioning how close he is to retirement. He is 39 now, it's natural for the inner muppet to come out and say 'RETIRE'. Some of his worse performances over the last year would've led to a 'SELL HIM' if he was 10 years younger.

I know I feel that I've said my piece constructively though. It's generally been a case of how we use him (and Scholes) as opposed to questioning his ability...he's not lost his ability to ping a ball. Today's use of Giggs was spot on. He's always got one good ball in him, and that's all you need from him. Not many players will age like him though, when he plays well it's astounding to think he might be tearing apart someone nearly half his age and perhaps even physically superior. Key words - Skill & Technique, he always had more than pace.

Giggs is old and he didn't have a rest or a proper pre-season in the summer due to the Olympics. Unfortunately, it's taken longer for him to find a bit of form than it has for some supporters to lose faith.

Indeed. It's becoming obvious that he can't play every match anymore. However, he still has the legs to run for 90 minutes and he still has pace to go past defenders almost half his age. He just can't be expected to do this week in and week out.

He'll probably carry on next season as well, the way it's going. 40 year old Ryan, running down the wing.
