Sunday 20th January 2013
Barclays Premier League
White Hart Lane
KO: 1600 GMT

Team should be...

GK: De Gea

RB: Rafael
CB: Ferdinand
CB: Evans
LB: Evra

RM: Nani
CM: Carrick
CM: Cleverley
LM: Kagawa

CF: Rooney
CF: RVP

Subs: Lindegaard, Jones, Smalling, Anderson, Giggs, Hernandez, Welbeck

No room for Vidic, Scholes, Buttner, Fletcher, Young or Valencia on that bench

Any win will do. Probably one of our toughest remaining fixtures.

RVP
Kagawa Rooney Nani
Carrick Cleverley
Evra Vidic Ferdinand Rafael
DDG

Our strongest team on paper while Valencia is in a bad run of form. Perhaps Evans for Ferdinand would be stronger.

EDIT; Kraft beat me to it

Worried about this one. My Spurs supporting mate has not stopped going on about their win at OT. Tiresome.

Reckon it'll be the same as Liverpool with rooney replacing young and Evans in for vidic if he's not fit

DDG
Rafa, rio, Vida/Evans, evra
Cleverley, carrick, kagawa
Welbeck, RVP, rooney

de Gea

Rafael
Ferdinand
Vidic
Evra

Carrick
Cleverley

Nani
Rooney
Kagawa

van Persie

SUBS: Lindegaard, Smalling, Jones, Anderson, Valencia, Welbeck, Hernandez.

De Gea
Rafael Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Carrick Cleverley
Nani Rooney Kagawa
Van Persie

This is ideally what I'd like to see, but I can see Welbeck starting somewhere (not sure for who mind you), and Nani, even though he's coming back from a long injury, still might be able to have a fantastic performance. If things aren't going well with Rooney or one of the other forwards (apart from RVP), bring on Welbeck and Valencia.
Hopefully we win, but it wouldn't surprise me if we drew this one.

De Gea

Rafael
Rio
Vidic
Evra

Nani
Carrick
Cleverley
Kagawa

Rooney
RVP

Harsh on Ryan after today's performance.

What if we went Jones right back and Rafael right mid? It would nullify the Bale threat. I think they'd link up well too and we wouldn't have to play Valencia.

Having Rafael and Jones wouldn't ''nullify'' Bale, he's a fantastic player and will be tough to stop anyway. We have better players, and if I was a right back, I'd rather mark Bale, then Rooney or Nani.

Hard game this, lucky for us that Sandro is out. That weakens their defensive unit as a team.

Can win it though, as long as we line up right.

You'd rather mark a guy who's having the best season of his life, easily one of the best wingers in the league currently; over two guys in no form with very little match fitness.

They could eventually out-do Bale in their performances but this weekend he is the biggest threat after RVP for them, then again I have to add the 'IMO' and be fair to you and your opinion.

Rafael was used farther forward against West Ham at Upton Park, i don't recall that being a stellar success. This has been his best season yet at right back, leave him there.

So long as we get the centre of the park right, it should hopefully be a less painful footballing experience than last time.

Welbeck deserves to play.

Not sure how to fit him in though. If we play Welbeck, Rooney, Kagawa and RvP it gives us no proper wide man. However Valencia is hugely off form and Nani mightn't be ready for a big game just a few days after his comeback. Decisions decisions for SAF!

For me one of Valencia and Nani has to play, and one of Kagawa and Welbeck should get the nod on the other side.

De Gea
Rafael - Rio - Vidic - Evra
Carrick - Cleverley
Nani - Rooney - Kagawa
Van Persie

This is what I would really love to see but I think SAF will be more cautious than that because Nani and Rooney are just back from injuries, Kagawa has gotten back not that long ago.
If Young was fit, he would have surely started, this is why I think Valencia might have a little chance.
Of the front four, definitely RVP and Kagawa starting, the rest I don't know tbh

Dembele's third opportunity this season to make our midfield look ordinary.

And everyone talking about Bale being man marked must remember he doesn't play only on the left anymore. He roams all over the place. We just need to make sure we cover our center backs when he goes central since he can waltz pass them with ease.

That is a worrying possibility, if we haven't learnt our lesson after two demonstrations.

Totally agree with you about Bale and the need to get the midfield right, both in terms of personnel and their instructions.

We probably can't prevent him from seeking out diving opportunities though.

Revenge time. I can't remember the last time we lost to Spurs at WHL and don't see any reason for that to change.

I can't believe people are afraid of Dembele. He is an ok player who makes one or two trade mark runs each game. Still not a midfielder for me. Sandro's absence should work in our favor. I expect Carrick-Clev partnership to dominate the middle.

Team:

DeGea
Rafael Rio Evans Evra
Carrick Cleverley
Valencia Rooney Kagawa/Welbeck
RVP

Subs: Lindegaard, Smalling, Jones, Anderson, Welbeck/Kagawa, Hernandez, Nani

Spurs 1 - United 3

Scorers: Evans, Kagawa, RVP

Valencia should be nowhere near the starting XI, he has not been good enough since the start of the season. Welbeck deserves to start, though I'd love to see this as I think it WILL BE by far our best line-up:

De Gea
Rafael - Vidic - Evans - Evra
Carrick - Cleverley
Nani - Rooney - Kagawa
RvP

Very balanced, incredibly going forward and goal threat pretty much everyone, even across the back four. I expect us to go there and beat them with the kind of squad we have now and the form of our players, and SAF has some tough decisions to make... with pretty much everyone bar Young fit some high-profile names will miss out on the matchday squad.

Pretty much everyone is in agreement (bar 1 or 2 players) what the side should be which will probably mean we'll see something totally different!

I'd like to see:

De Gea
Rafael Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Carrick Cleverley
Nani Rooney Kagawa
Van Persie

However given injuries, fitness and other issues I wouldn't be surprised at all too see:

De Gea
Rafael Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Valencia Carrick Cleverley Webeck
Ven Persie Rooney

Wouldn't be surprised if there was a surprise inclusion too like Anderson or maybe even Scholes.

Tell me about it

I hope we just pick up the routine win at WHL as per usual. Will be a tough game but with Anderson/Nani back, we should be able to win this.

After how they tore us apart at OT I would take a draw right now.

What a strange way of looking at it. We're in much better form now, and we've got a much more settled midfield - the combination of a pre-form Carrick and a terrible Scholes and Giggs (Giggs giving, in my opinion, the worst performance that day of any United player this season) was what screwed us in the first half of that game.

We should be looking to return the favour, because it's entirely within our capability at the moment.

I know it's just a figure of speech, but I just don't get this at all. The difference between a draw & a loss is 1 point, so you'd rather take 1 point than risk losing or the opportunity to get 3?

Are you saying we aren't good enough to beat them then so you'd rather a point than nothing?

We're top of the league & 15 points ahead of Spurs, we're much better than them ffs!

Edit: Brightonian got there before me...
