Shinji Kagawa

Thought he was excellent in the first half, great decision making and one touch passing. Came off quite early in the second half though as he's not that useful defensively and they were starting to take the ascendency.

Unless injured, I don't know why he was subbed. He was very good today.

Possibly his best game this season, some very nice passing moments and touches. Shame about his shot though

Had a very good game. Some nice touches and link up play and he did ok defensively considering it's not his strongest attribute.

Should be a starter either playing off the striker or drifting in from the left from now on.

I almost felt sorry that he didn't get more of the ball. His use of possession and link play always seems to have purpose. Keep playing him and I can see him doing some damage in the final third. Goals and assists are something we know he can be good at providing.

He did ok today but the Rooney sub was well timed, unfortunately the Valencia for Cleverley countered this, should have been Anderson for Clevs.

He did somewhere between Ok to good today. Improving though.

Needs to find his through balls from the Dortmund days. That was his forte, i.e linking up and playing people in and assisting. Hasn't found that here right now, though his short passing game is fine.

I don't think he should be subbed if our game plan is to counter attack for the last 30 minutes. He didnt seem tired at all.

Good game from the lad. Excellent touch in the build up to our first goal. he's still adjusting to how we play and I think some of the lads namely Carrick, are beginning to appreciate what Kagawa brings to the table. He's one of the few players that actually wants the ball in tight spaces because he knows he can use his skills to open up the opposition very quickly.

That being said, some of the positions he took bemused me. Thought he could have made himself more available on some attacks. On the whole, good performance and an improvement on his match against Liverpool.

People seem relucant to pass that second part of the one-two with him. Its amazing how many times he manages to get into space. We need to pass him the ball more (to his feet) and he will make things happen.

He obviously has ability, a good eye for a pass and good feet but he struggles to get into the game. The more he plays the better the team's understanding of what he can do but he needs to assert himself better.

Had a very good first half. His quick pass toward the center in the buildup to our goal was really intelligent. However, he's still struggling to impose himself on the game, especially in the second half. Hopefully this will come with time. He really is a very smart player, and if we can harness his abilities along with Cleverley's, Welbeck's and RVP's (all intelligent, quick pass and move players), our football will be really pleasing on the eye.

since Nani & Valencia are out form, Kagawa & Young remain the most effective attackers to penetrate opponent's half. fair to say this?

Once Nani gets back to full fitness he should be back in without a question. Even off form he can do something, and on his day he is up there with the best wingers in the world. Young is injured regardless, so the wings are definitely there for the taking.

Agree.

Best outfield player after Carrick yesterday.

Our passing and attacking-game died when Kagawa and Cleverley were taken off. Carrick and Jones could only keep defending, and Welbeck suddenly became anonymous. In games like these we need to score another goal. Taking Kagawa(and Cleverley) off was the wrong decision. The beginning of out second half wasn't as bad as people say. At least we still managed to do something in the attacking third, which definitely wasn't the case after our subs.

Cleverley didn't have the best passing game yesterday actually. But he gave us good energy along with Jones.

Kagawa can certainly be penetrative but he hasn't been for us so far.

He's been more of a link man.

People are so desperate for him to be a success here some are guilty of over exaggerating his performance. I thought he was decent yesterday but no better than a 7/10. I was surprised he went off as early as he did mind.

Again, his one touch play and lay offs were very very nice. But he doesn't impose himself on a game in the way you need too if you're gunna play in that position.

7/10 from me too. Neat passing but no goal threat

Indeed. I don't think it's necessarily Kagawa's issue either. Watching Dortmund and watching United is such a different experience. Dortmund play mainly through the middle with very narrow wide players. Lots of quick 1-2 plasses and diagonals into the box whereas with United, diamond or no diamoind, the focus is on width.

There was an instance that stuck in my mind from yesterday. Kagawa linked with Welbeck on the end of the box and Kagawa made a burst into the box but Welbeck had no intention of finding him. It's bred into United players to look for the wider ball.

Was very good yesterday. I was worried with the shitty weather, slipperyness and physicality he might struggle. Pleased I was wrong.

The pass to van persie round the corner of the defence was almost perfect, was such a lovely pass but the defender did well to read it.

Even the commentator mentioned what a nice attempt it was - first sign of shinjis true passing ability there.

He's got loads to offer but we aint really gonna be seeing the best of him until this time next year IMO. Its mad to think about 3 yrs ago he was playing in some shitty J-league and now hes playing at one of the biggest clubs in the world.

He's slowly but surely adjusting to the league and doing some great things, that I've seen him do at Dortmund. Have patience fellow Caftards, we have some player on our hands.

Has anyone else noticed how much better his timing has become recently? In the beginning he would usually end up running alongside his opponents, who in return easily could outmuscle him(for obvious reasons). In the last couple games however, he's learned how to be in the right place at the right time, forcing his body in front of the opponents. In these situations they can either let him pass or foul him. Needless to say that this will let Kagawa play his game more than previously.

Good observation. Picked that up as well. Which is why I said he has been adjusting to us as much as we've been adjusting to him.

It was the same with RVP. Until we started appreciating his qualities, we more often than not went wide. Now with RVP, we are comfortable with playing the ball through the middle and it has showed in a good portion of our matches this season.

My main hope is that we don't look to change Kagawa to do what the rest of the players do. His nous for playing through the middle is invaluable and gives us a different option in our attack. It shouldn't be compromised.

I have a feeling he is going to have a cracking second season at united. He's been unlucky with injuries which has definitely slowed his adjustment to playing for united. I reckon he's going to have a cracking second season - a real talented player.
