Manchester United vs. Southampton

------------------De Gea------------------
Rafa---------Vida---------Rio----------Evra
----------Carrick--------Clev---------------
Valencia----------Rooney---------------Nani
-------------------RVP---------------------

For me, that is our best team.

Would agree but with Valencia's shite form of late I'd put Nani on the right and play Welbeck on the left.

I think we're all in agreement: we demand a win.

On a more serious note, despite Fulham coming up quickly this is the right situation to throw everything you've got at the opponent. The noose must be tightened on City. We have the squad necessary to deal with Fulham in just a few days. There can be no fear. Django must be unchained.

Good line up jimmy would be happy with that but there are a right few players that we can field outside that starting 6 and not be weakened. Great position to be in.

Southampton are in decent nick, and if we're lazy, wont roll over.

If RVP, and Rooney turn up, it doesn't matter what sort of form a bottom ten side is in, they're gonna get done.

4-1 United.

I hope Vidic starts this game as we have a tendency to get bullied by big strong strikers. Evans in partnership with him would be better than Rio, imo. Vidic and Rio together make us play deeper, having Evans will allow the defense to move further up the pitch.

A front four of Rooney, RVP, Nani, Welbeck/Kagawa would be pretty exciting to watch. They will interchange and cause the Saints defense a lot of problems. They also press and defend from the front.

I see an easy win with two or three goals.

I'm going to go with 3-1 United (both Rooney & RvP on the scoresheet)

Lineup:

De Gea
Rafael Vidič Smalling Evra
Nani Cleverley Carrick Kagawa
Rooney RvP

Hope we get an early goal makes such a difference the next set of games before the derby are vital as City have much the easier run in after the derby. Hopefully we can extend on the 7 points if we win tonight.

with City dropping points Im sure Sir Alex will light the fire underneath the squad today. My only concern is we have our typical first half stormer but only score one and then our second half dropoff

5-1

We will thump em, send out a message.

Could be 10 points clear again city play the dippers!

I would have to say that Nani, Rooney, Kagawa and then RVP as a striker would be

I really think Nani and Kagawa could work very well together.

Yep agree with Nani and Kagawa hope Nani signs soon would be a big boost as he brings something different to the party! Find it hard to leave out Valencia though as he's been so good since he signed this bad patch will come to an end soon enough!

Indeed - if Valencia and Nani fire on all cylinders on the right and left wing and we get Kagawa and Rooney firing as well, then we have one serious offensive threat in store. I'm almost willing to let Kagawa then get some game time before Rooney at times simply because he is better in tight corners and short passing that Rooney - not saying, by any means that he is better as a player though.

Always get that feeling with midweek games, but the team are focused and can see them getting a comfortable 2-0.

I would be surprised if there is a slip up after we drew with Spurs the last game. It's a relatively easier schedule till the City game with only Everton the tricky fixture. We should win at QPR and West Ham.

I've finally got to Manchester... first United game in 2.5 years... So we better win well...

Should be an easy game, but the team need to focus. I'm hoping to see this:

De Gea, Rafael, Rio, Vidic, Evra, Nani, Carrick, Ando, Kagawa, Rooney, RvP

A cute little story from Norwya:

Vegar Forren, just sold from Molde to Southampton, can make his debut tonight.
Solskjær and Molde will be watching the game in La Manga (where they have started their preseason), but Forren can not expect any support from Solskjær. When it comes to United the Molde manager is uncompromising.

- I hope United win, that's just how it is. I support Man Utd.

I can see Rooney having a good evening tonight. Would be great to have both him and RVP scoring goals and clicking once again.

But the mere formality of a win and stretching the gap back to 7 points remains the priority.

As bad as it sounds to some, I really hope Paul Scholes doesn't start...I feel it would simply be disruptive for us and perhaps one of the other midfielders. Other than that, the team selection doesn't bother me, though I think wingers aside, we have a good idea of who'll line up.

Scholes should never start a game this season in a midfield 2. Even against Southampton he'll struggle. But I think Fergie saw that Carrick + Scholes didn't work and we'll stick with Carrick + Cleverley/Anderson. If we're resting Carrick then it has to be Clev and Ando.

Waiting to make my way down to the ground. Should be a good game, hoping for a 3-0/4-0

Woooop, RVP Hattrick and a Rooney belter

New manager syndrome. Take the 3 points however they come...

Not going to have the normal effect this time as they would've all been fairly sad to see Adkins sacked.

We have to be beating Southampton no matter who is in charge

We're due a firing on all cylinders performance, players have been rested and rotated well over the last month.

If I was choosing tonight I'd play the following team:

DDG

Rafael - Smalling - Vidic - Evra

Valencia - Carrick - Anderson - Nani

Rooney - RVP

Substitutions based on score and fitness:

Anderson > Cleverley
Nani > Kagawa
Rooney > Hernandez/Welbeck

I agree we have to be winning this game no matter what, but I don't think it'll be the cakewalk everyone seems to expect. They're on a good run and the new manager is a smart tactician.

I'll gladly be proven wrong though, it's time to get that goal difference clear of City's whilst they're struggling to score.

Jones for Rafael perhaps? Thinking the Lambert big diagonal option - which tore us apart in the reverse fixture.

agreed, hopefully our players have a little more sense than some posters here when it comes to that.
no game in the PL (which many presume to be the best in the world) should be an easy game, especialy not before you even get on the pitch. the only way to make a game "easy" is to outperform the opposition and that can only happen by trying your hardest.

I fully expect us to win, but not out of cockyness, I believe we have more than enough firepower and managerial skill to come out on top, I do not however take the game for granted.
If nothing else Southampton made it very tough on us the first time around, so I doubt Fergie would allow any player to take it easy because he'd presume RvP was going to score another hat-trick and get us the 3 points.

We should be much better at keeping the ball tonight.
At old Trafford we normally keep the ball.

Cake walk maybe not but this is a newly promoted team.
We Have to be beating the likes of them t home

Looking forward to see Robin van Persie play, I never get bored of seeing his elegance. He is simply too good, bet your house on him bagging at least one goal.

Loving that line up. I would just make one alteration and have Nani on the right, and Kagawa on the left

Rio, Rafael, Valencia and Nani all on the bench. Jones, Rooney and RvP definitely play.
