Manchester United vs Real Madrid

With you there. I think he'd be excellent coming on around 70 minutes, in any of a variety of positions. But whilst he can still do the impressive things well, he no longer does the bread and butter consistently enough to be a good choice to start. Especially not in CM. His defensive positioning is basically non-existent these days.

Cleverley should unquestionably be ahead of him for CM, and Welbeck, Kagawa or Nani all ahead of him on the wing. So for me starting him would be sentimental not sensible.

If he starts then it will be in a Ozil type role, i imagine. Would give better type of marking of Alonso, than Rooney or Kagawa probably.

Why would the beeb set this video (and others) up so that only UK viewers can watch it? What's the commercial interest they're trying to protect?

None, just doing it to wind all you Jonny foreigners up.

What I'd like

DDG
Rafael - Rio - Evans - Evra
Carrick - Cleverley
Kagawa
Nani - RvP - Rooney

What will probably happen

DDG
Rafael - Rio - Evans - Evra
Valenca - Carrick - Giggs - Rooney - Welbeck

RvP

I can't even tell if I'm feeling confident or not. One minute I think we should do it, next minute I feel they're going to beat us 3-0. Last time Madrid came to Old Trafford I was 14 and full of hope, then they knocked us out comfortably.

That tie was lost on their patch, tbf.

Why is there an omelet behind RVP?

And if ti's truly there, then Ando has got to play.

Ronaldo won that tie.

Shit, I missed Eastenders last night.

I'll watch that now whilst waiting.

Off to the pub, good luck y'all.
If Nani starts we'll win. And i'm quite sure he will.

If he doesn't we'll probably still win come to think about it...so yeah.

I don't think he would at all. Even since his recent return to form, his defensive work is extremely slack. He'll trail his man for a little while and then surreptitiously give up on him. To claim that he'd do a better job of making Alonso's life difficult than Rooney or Kagawa, both of whom are known for having an excellent work-rate, is very far wide of the mark.

If he had to start, I'd rather he be on the wing. From there he can make his positive contributions - excellent passes, little flicks and tricks and those occasional 'rolling back the years' mazy runs - without his lack of consistent positional and defensive discipline compromising us too badly. But then, again, you'd have to ask whether he's a sensible option ahead of Nani, Welbeck or Kagawa.

Just to give us all something else to worry about... who in our squad risks missing the next match if they get a yellow today?

Was such a stupid yellow for RVp last game. Ramos the cnut.

Nice scenes there with Ronaldo hugging some United staff as he got off the coach.

feck me I'm pumped up for this. Classic on the way lads.

ITV aren't doing an extended pre-game show a la Sky for the first leg?

No, they never do.

There's coverage on MUTV right now for those with Sky. For a few million who haven't subscribed to it, it is free to view until the 17th.

ITV are cnuts. Fortunately, MUTV is showing for me so they'll provide the necessary buildup.

Oh, for feck's sake, they interview the one Irish guy who's weird and socially awkward in front of a camera.
