Manchester United vs. Manchester City

I seriously can't be arsed with the 'we deserved to win the league' bullshit that will inevitably happen if we lose tonight, despite beating them at the council house.

Dick them 5-0 please.

de Gea
Rafael Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Carrick Cleverley
Kagawa
Welbeck Rooney
van Persie
--
Lindegaard; Smalling; Giggs, Young, Nani, Valencia; Hernandez

Phil Jones might get in there somewhere if he's fully fit (I think he is now) and I hope Rafael and Rooney are fine. Our wingers have been dire for ages other than Nani who has been hit and miss at best. Normally I'd say throw Valencia and Nani at them, and if they happen to start I don't doubt that they could rise to the challenge and find some form. But I don't think Sir Alex can play out of form players in this game (other than van Persie).

Hernandez might be disappointed after doing well against Chelsea both times, but if we're not winning in the second half he knows he'll get on the pitch.

Yeah the last few performances (after going out to Real really) have really drained my enthusiasm. I'll still be up for this one but probably not until kick-off. I'm worried about another lazy, half-hearted crap fest.

Can anyone think when the last time we played a 'meaningless' derby was? Y'know, having either already won or lost the title. I can't really think of any in my time. Closest would have to be when Ronaldo got sent off and Fowler scored, but that was early enough that we hadn't entirely given up on catching Chelsea yet.

It's very odd for both of us to be playing only for pride.

I wouldn't say we're only playing for pride today. There's more to it. Last year's drubbing, them winning the league and being second this time round, the possibility to put the final nail in the coffin. Noisy neighbors and all this stuff. They're no longer some low-midtable club they were.

The title isn't wrapped up yet. Avoiding defeat tonight should more or less wrap it up though.

I'd go with:

DDG
Rafael - Rio - Vidic - Evra
Carrick - Cleverley
Welbeck - Rooney - Kagawa
RVP

I think it's important that we attack positively as we did at the Ethiad, and with the likes of Welbeck, Cleverley and Kagawa in there, we have players who will provide us with that bit of energy further forward , as well as being able to cause City problems with the ball.

On a side note, I bought a new toy last week, which will hopefully improve the atmosphere if I decide to bring it.
This is perfect.

Ideal formation for today, but can't help to notice... How many of us, would think about a formation with no Valencia and/or Nani would be arguably the best option, a year ago...

Strangely calm about this game, and not too worried about it really. Don't even think we'll win! It's probably because this game means little more then pride, and maybe rubbing the title win in their noses.

Yeah, the biggest worry is I'm not worried. I hope SAF does a better job of getting the players worried tonight.

Well I'm the opposite. It's a derby and a win would both secure the title and rub it in their faces. On the other hand a loss would give them some faint hope, they'll bang on about being the moral victors/deserving of the title and it will be a shit week. I'm buzzing for it and I still think there's a huge amount riding on it.

Why do people want to shift Kagawa into the middle and plomp Roo on the wings? makes no sense.

At the moment, Rooney IS the better player, there isn't a debate, you don't play one of our best players out of position to accommodate for a lesser.

Also, is Cleverley now recognized as our first choice centre mid to partner Carrick?

Got swimming training tonight until 8PM and then I have a birthday thingy to attend. Only going to be the second half I am going to see but better than nothing, eh?!

If everyone is fit I'd love to see:

de Gea
Rafael Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Valencia Carrick Cleverley Kagawa
Rooney van Persie

United's players will be motivated, more so than City's, I think. We can go out and steam roll them quickly from the start. City are playing purely for pride, and they're a bunch of mercenaries, don't think the Manchester derby means too much to them.

Biggest game that's left of the season.

Win this and Fergie should send Carrick, Evra and RvP on an early holiday, those three has played by far the most games for us this season and they have all had a great season.

Pretty sure RVP will be aiming to get the Golden Boot. Every striker wants it.

Plus it'll stop that twat Suarez getting it.

As a mancunion I'm up for this, people struggling to get fired up for this need to think about who these shite are and what happened last time they were at Old Trafford.

We should be looking to maul them to make them lose the league in the biggest possible fashion.

It's our trophy and let's show them why that's been the case for the past two decades.

Afterall, this is the week where Hart said he gives us no credit and that city are STILL the team beat.

As if one flukey, won on goal difference title, suddenly makes City THE team in this country.

fecking plonker.

It doesn't matter who's where, they'll rotate pretty much all game anyway (if they start).

Admittedly Rooney in the hole was what did us the most good in winning the return fixture. However, that was when Valencia actually had a decent game and Mancini was a bit cocky with his selection (asking Barry to track Rooney AND Valencia/Young from holding midfield). In the away game, I can see Mancini wanting to be a bit more solid in the middle at first even though they have to win this game to have any hopes at all.

If this game is kept tight for an hour, I can see any of Valencia/Nani/Giggs/Hernandez being to counter attacking them when they have to go for it.

I love you to bits Adzzzzzz, but this is shocking...

Strictly it isn't, we thought we had it wrapped up last season & look what happened.

Lets see it through safely before we get the Champagne out, eh?

Mathematically it isn't over, you're right. Realistically, it is.

I think we'll set out with Carrick and Clev in the middle, RVP and Rooney up top and then Welbeck and either Kag or Valencia.

City will start cautiously and look to contain us in the first half and will know that if it's 0-0 at half time they will stand a good chance of pushing us back and taking advantage of our typical 2nd half nervousness that has typified recent games.

What I really want to see is a game that, even though City will naturally have periods of pressure, we look good throughout. No sluggish start that means falling behind early and, conversely, no coming out of the blocks like a steam train just to flag massively after 60 minutes.

Just a good line up, a solid start and a sustained decent performance until the 90th. Consistency for 90 minutes tonight would be lovely; if it comes with 3 points then even better.

Yay!

That's one thing I've never understood about Manchester United fans from Manchester, the need to remind City fans that 'Manchester is red', that's like me reminding my sister she has a vagina every other day.

At least a draw and we should win it without even getting it a little bit nervy.

My worry if we lose are that city have very easy fixtures left on paper expect Spurs away but they seem very tired at the moment. And you know how big blow a loss can be to any team and the players will start to think we can go another season without a trophy and also after last season with the big lead.

No matter how tonight goes though we should really beat Stoke, Aston Villa and Swansea. Then we would only need another point to secure it, I'm desperate for us to lift the trophy at OT though so we must secure it at the latest against Swansea.

Cheers. We've actually got some tough fixtures left in the league, I would've been fairly worried if our lead wasn't as big as it is now.
