Manchester United vs. Manchester City

Got 10/11 of the team correct. I expected Rio to start instead of Smalling.

Hardly an inspiring team selection there, it has to be said. Looks pretty defensive to me.

*EDIT: Scratch that, a different XI has been posted now. Young in place of Smalling with Jones moving to CB.

Not this shit again. I remember some nob saying that previously regarding a few other games. That's not a defensive lineup what so ever. Giggs, Rooney, Van Persie, Welbeck and Young are all attacking players.

Brilliant balance to this team really, though I'd of had Cleverley in all day ahead of Giggs and while I was confident Jones was starting (because he's been chosen for every big game as of late), I never expected it to be in central defence. Class lineup. Rooney will have a stormer and Welbeck will work his ass off yet again.

Smalling, Evans and Vidic are all injured or what ?

Fergie's love for Young in big games is really strange. He should be a squad player. No wonder Nani wants to leave.

That lineup is a total disaster. Carrick and Giggs to handle Yaya, Milner and Barry? What? Only possible way that doesn't totally kill us if Rooney drops really deep all game. And no Vidic or Evans really decreases the chances of a clean sheet. Not at all confident about this anymore

Young did well when he came on vs Chelsea. Have a feeling he's going to do alright, despite all of the hate on here.

Giggs needs to show the workrate he did against Real, against Chelsea he left Carrick isolated but I suppose we were chasing a cup game so it was a bit different. Always feel having no cbs on the bench is a worry but suppose what can we do if they're all injured. Hope Young plays the way he did against Chelsea.

So there is no CB on the bench. What happens when Jones picks up his inevitable injury? Carrick in midfield and Cleverley+Giggs to take care of Yaya, Barry and Milner? :nervous:

Not sure why people are so surprised Nani is not playing. He was awful against Chelsea, Young did decent when he came on so that probably got him the start today.

I'm slightly concerned by not having any other CB on the bench and what Vidic/Evans/Smalling's injuries are and how long they'll be out for.

Welbeck is much hardworking as Milner.

That's the second time people have included Milner as midfielders but missed Welbeck. Logic doesn't survive ahead of pessimism.

Not fecking Ferdinand and Jones as the CB's, that's the worst possible pairing we could of put out

Milner will likely play wide and come inside just as much as Welbeck will. Young will work harder than nasri or silva. As long as Rooney/RVP drop off in to the hole it shouldn't be an issue unless people underperform.

Hmm... Take the front 2 out of that team and it doesnt look like a title winning team. I'm sure when City see that lineup they'll be chomping at the bit to get out there and put in a performance. I just hope we can show the character to come through the game with a decent result

 True.

I suppose it could be argued that all the wingers have been erratic and at least Nani has the capability of doing something great. Though I do think some of the hate is a bit much.

Personally I would have not started with any of them and gone with two of Giggs, Welbeck and Kagawa.

Don't know why everyone's complaining. This is the best team we can put out when you consider form and injuries. Only arguable inclusion is Young, but he did do well when he came on against Chelsea.

Yeah, you're right, Young's a far better player then Nani

Well, Nani blew it with his shit performance last week and Young was lively in his came. Would have stuck with Nani personally but understandable decision.

Young over Nani fecking hell

I understand Nani not playing but I thought Kagawa would have started, he would have been perfect to link with Giggs and Carrick through the center aswell.

Who would you have played in midfield then ?

Just stop talking steaming piles of shit mate. You're saying Nani wants to fecking leave because we're not playing him in this game, it's a pathetic comment. Nani has been no different all season, the same old inconsistent Nani. One minute brilliant, the next absolute dire. Of course when he's on form he can be class, I like the guy, but your statement was embarassing and for the record, Young did more in ten minutes in the last game we played than Nani/Valencia put together for their entire duration on the pitch. Young will also work his ass off today defensively.

Nice thing about playing Welbeck and RVP is that both are pretty handy in defending corners. If Fergie had gone with Chicarito instead of Welbz, I'd be pretty scared of the sheer number of big men City have. They're far more physically imposing than us, and we lost the key match last season on a corner...

From a footballing perspective it is the least important derby in a good while. This game doesn't have much, if any, relevance to where the league title will end up.

But how many derbies have done? Last years at the Etihad did. Can't think of any others in recent times. A derby is an event all of its own.

I'm slightly surprised in that I can understand a winger as city are quite narrow but Young doesn't really go down the line, though suppose he'll stay slightly wider than kagawa would and is better defensively.

The last time Rio and Jones started together, they did really well. Away at Newcastle when we lost 0-3

I think we have to be honest now, Sir Alex is clearly one of Ashley Young's biggest fans. For some reason.

Our defensive injuries are a real hindrance. I'm sure we would have started Jones in midfield if we had anyone fit to partner Rio.
