He hasn't lost his pace or strength though, he had a couple of moments where he showed that today, he's just lost any willingness to actually take responsibility and make things happen and the ability to actually put in a cross that isn't a drill. Honestly I've said it before but I've not seen a player be able to have as many ineffectual 90 mins/near 90 mins as him for united in a while. Nani has never been afforded that and look at Rooney as soon as we got in RVP he started getting hauled off the pitch. We have options of ways we could set up to not need to play Valencia but he keeps getting in. I don't want him to go or anything but I don't really get why he's given so much leeway.
Nani was a bazillion times better than Valencia last week (who wasn't even as bad as he was this week), and he got subbed off and didn't feature at all today.
There are always alternatives when somebody is that fecking shit!

He's so frustrating. With the way he's played this season is it fair to say he has no intelligence about his play? He constantly plays the ball into the least dangerous areas. He doesnt do the one thing that used to scare his opponent, take him on again and again. And he doesn't make runs into threatening areas. He's just a physical player at the moment and less of one than he used to be.
Terrible again, I'm worried he's going to do a Torres, he hasn't showed any decent run of form for ages now.

Worth remembering he was the one who started off the counter-attack for our best chance of the game when Jones overhit that cross with a nice piece of skill...
He still does the basics right. He still links up well with Rafael. He still defends well. It's the little things like offering an option in the air from goal kicks that he offers us which none of the other wingers don't.

He is a trier but that's not good enough at this level, he's just a very one-dimensional player with average technique. I agree that if we're in the business of selling Nani and keeping players like Valencia then we are going in the wrong direction.

I don't even know how he stayed on for as long as he did today. His only half decent cross came in 71 min. I feel bad for the guy and he looked like he knows it too.

Why is everyone saying Nani is injured? Did Fergie actually say that? All I saw was a quote bringing up the hamstring injury he had earlier this season.
Isnt putting in a decent cross with a fair amount of your chances to do so one of the most important basics for a winger?
If he just did that part he'd have been twice as useful this season.

I don't think it makes up for it in any way but I think it makes the "what an abomination of a performance" seem a little silly, personally. Won the ball in his own half and set up another counter-attack in the first 10-15 minutes of the half too. There's a lot more moments of this than people imply, in my opinion. He's well and truly become the team's scapegoat now. The go-to guy when someone needs to complain about United.
Can't afford another poor season out of him next year, not if we want to improve. Hopefully the arrival of Zaha or someone else new might give him a kick up the arse, at this point though I'm losing faith.
In fairness, Brwned, he's a winger. His main job is to set up chances, and he... well, can't. His crossing is worse than Bebe's. It's abysmal. Rafael crosses better than him and he's a right-back!

No that would be Young and Cleverley but Valencia isn't far behind and the way the 3 have performed this season it is not that surprising.
Apparently the basics don't include being able to pick out teammates with crosses. Odd check list for a winger... I'd have providing some sort of attacking threat and not wasting good offensive situations created by your teammates time and again as basics for a winger for Manchester United.
Brwned, I'm sorry, but he was dreadful out there, how can you, the best fecking poster on this whole board, not agree with that? In those first twenty minutes he did absolutely nothing right, he had that one good moment, actually maybe two, the cross to Giggs, but other than that he did not hit anything into the box at all.
That moment does not make up for what was an awful 89 minutes of football from him.

He gets so much of the ball, yet he had the 2nd least pass accuracy. He's not even keeping the ball well which used to be his saving grace
The worst performance of the season for me. Try to vanish from your memories the way Valencia played in his first three years here, and we have a player as bad as Djemba twins and Bebe. It's pathetic why he is playing all those matches when he has been the worst player in the league this season. I wish that I won't see him playing in next two games and hopefully he will find some form in the next season, though now I am losing hope about it.
So much for that argument then.
I don't dislike Valencia, but he's playing like shit. He shouldn't be in the team in this form. The scapegoating stems partly from the fact that he doesn't deserve his spot in the lineup, we have a player who is more fun to watch on the bench.
I'm all for his sticking around as long as he needs and earning his place in the team, but he should have to do it the way others do. Train well, get some sub appearances and force his way in, as any other player generally has to if they've lost form and play at a club with as high standards as ours.
Yeah that's one of the big problems, with a big part of our game sucking the opposition in towards the left and then switching it to the right Valencia is the one in the most space often and so he gets the ball a lot, but he's just not giving anything. He's lucky as well that he's got/had Rafael most the season providing a really good overlap. Without that I can't imagine how much worse he'd look.
Because he seems to be getting chance after chance after chance - Fergie is usually a lot harsher than this. I don't think there's any other player in the squad who's been as consistently below par this season as Valencia yet it doesn't really seem to affect his chances of being selected.
