Film The Movies I want to see thread

I reckon if you could take enough still pictures of Ryan Gosling from all angles, you could make several hit movies out of them over a period of about 5 years before needing to update the images for age purposes. I'm not even sure if he needs to blink, fans would just attribute that as the ultimate form of acting.

I've always found that criticism of actors (he doesn't move his face), which is often used with Bale, as pretty idiotic. As if you need to spend your time looking like a bloody Pacino on amphetamines to be considered as a good actor. There's so much more to acting, and I think it's pretty easy to just watch some of Gosling's recent stuff to realize he's very good.

I liked Cars.

Cars was fine. Just tried to watch Cars 2, couldn't get through more than 20 minutes. Agreed on Disney's Planes too, looks weak.

I read a bit more about some critiques of Cars 2 and I didn't realize that Lasseter stepped in to take over for Bird who left the film. Or that there was massive criticism for all the marketing angles it took as Pixar became part of Disney. Is this a Disney directive to merely focus on the cash register I wonder?

Shame because Lasseter's strength in everything I can recall other than Cars 2 is how compelling the stories are in the films he is involved with - even if their intended audiences are children.

Is it true then that everyone eventually sells out? Yes Peter Jackson, I'm looking at you!

Did you watch the 1st one Zen? His other work might not be as good but Star Trek is one thing he got right and the second movie looks absolutely brilliant from the trailer.

Abrams good filmmaker. He's just trolling the whole "is he Khan?" thing at this point by referring to him as "him" so much now, not by Khan or even this John Harrison name.

He SHOULD be Khan, but I dunno now, might just be getting in on the whole discussion to drum up further hype and he is just a new character(well kind of).

Looks lik the enterprise E to me.

I hope he's not Khan. Rather have him as John Harrison.

So he crashes theirs, Kirk sacrifices himself to beat him, they take his ship to rescue Kirk in film 3.

Can't be Spock doing the sacrifice again.

Rumours ding the rounds now that cumberbatch is a next gen character.

Just booked tickets for an IMAX double bill of the last Star Trek film and Into Darkness on 8th May. Should be pretty fecking awesome... though I imagine I'll have a pretty numb ass by the end of it!

Abrams continues to troll.

Looks excellent. Liked the first one despite never having watched a single Star Trek episode or movie before that.

This looks like an 'Empire Strikes Back' sort of take on the series...

Gosling is the coolest actor isn't he? Just seen The Place Beyond The Pines. Decent film.

Would have preferred more of a twist at the end though. It was fairly predictable and kind of petered out. Would also have probably preferred it if it was actually about Luke the whole way through. All his films seem to promise lots of chase scenes then don't actually give you much (by all I mean this and Drive). Even when he died I was hoping they would go back for more motorbike stuff.

I was just coming into this thread to post that one Nilsson, really looking forward to it!

Me too.

When I saw who was in it I thought feck it, but that trailer had me aghast the whole time. Still I would much prefer less recognizable lead actors, but that movie looks ridiculously intense.

Yeah I thought the same too. But all in all not a bad film.

Not sure if this is a fake, but I love anything like this.

Fake trailer. Though the film is being made. It's the latest in the Dan Brown stories. Tom Hanks is signed to reprise his role.

Just watching Les Mis, I knew there'd be lots and lots of singing but didn't realise the whole film would be singing

Sounds like Hans Zimmer nailed the main tune again too. He's been incredible.
