Liverpool

Is Rafa in charge of their transfers still? How many more Spanish attacking mifield/forward players can they cram into their squad?

Yes but it was kind of a meaningless comment, how many clubs promote regularly from within their own city?
How many do the 2 Manchester clubs have?
Of course it would be better to have 11 from local areas, then United wouldn't have to buy scousers like Rooney.

My point, yes not local , was that more than anyone Rodgers has given youth a chance , more so than Rafa and Kenny did.

To be fair buying Spanish players seems like a particulary good idea at the moment given that they're winning every competition going.

Don't get drawn in johnny boy ;)

To be fair, Rodgers hardly have any expectations to perform like Benitez and Daglish before him. When Benitez was in charge, Liverpool was challenging for trophies, and Daglish somewhat was expected to turn the club around. The club and its fans has realised that you're a nothing club just like the likes of Swansea and WBA at the moment, which is why Rodgers is allowed to give youth a chance.

A forward hey? That's the second one right? Suarez must be leaving.

If they kept him, I'd say they would of had a big chance of trying to get into Europa next season. Losing Suarez would take them a few steps back - unless this Alberto guy and the other fella set the league a light.
Here we've had enough trouble with biting this season. We don't need to add arson to the charges too......

Somewhat of an overestimation.

Liverpool have gone about their business quietly but seem to be doing quite well. I think they'll still fall short of fourth but they'll be much closer than last year.

Most of their signings are like the signings from the past few years, i.e. relatively cheap punts that may or may not come off, but at least they have got them early which gives them enough time to sort out the real issue for the summer.

If Suarez stays and we sign Mkhitaryan + a good centre half it'll be an interesting season.

Suarez is seemingly relying on Madrid though - with Juventus signing Tevez it leaves Madrid as the only real likely destination apart from City and he wants out of England. He might have to stay at this rate.

Indeed. If Madrid don't sign him I have a feeling nobody will.

What are your expectations?

What is the minimum you will accept in terms of league finish, cup runs etc?

I'd like to see us put in a substantial challenge for top 4 and not blow every opportunity we have to make up vital ground, like we did last season.

Minimum expectation is to see us in the mix at the end of the season. 6th place above Everton would be just about satisfactory as long as we challenged for 4th.

A repeat of last season and questions would have to be asked.

I suggested that Liverpool would most likely overtake us this season as they're making decent signings and we are obviously in transition. I was told that I was talking shite and that they'd be top 10 contenders. I guess it teaches me not to discuss Liverpool on an Everton forum.

They probably will do. 6th place and Rodgers will spin it as "progress" and buy himself another season.

Well, overtaking a team with a fraction of your budget and that has lost their long term manager is hardly a major achievement.

If I were an Evertonian I'd be worried. I still think Martinez is vastly overrated.

No harm in being realistic at all.

Top 4 has to be the aim not sure at the moment if that is possible.
Very interesting transfer window so far, I just hope we get the dominant centre half we badly need.
Not sure on Suarez, can see him staying unless Madrid sign him.

Liverpool are irrelevant, except as a shining example of a once proud club that's devolved to perennial midtable crap.

Next thread?

Apparently no more signings for us this Summer, the three signings thins morning brings us to a total of 8 first team signings including 4 defensive players, 3 attacking players and a keeper, as well as getting rid of high earners that were only fringe players. I have always had confidence in Rodgers from the start and it's starting to pay off, a manager needs time to bed in as you will see with Moyes, over the last year he has pretty much over hauled the entire team with only a few players holding on to their positions.

I see no reason we can't push for top 4, we currently sit on 9 points, it took us 8 games and until the 20th of October to achieve that last year, our next six fixtures are very winnable if we play how we can play, and with Suarez missing just the next 2 PL fixtures it's a massive boost in our attack.

We still can't beat anyone above us in the league though ;)

Some very good signings. Sahko and Moses. Must have one of the youngest squads in the league after Villa.

Is Moses with an option to buy?

Same fecking story. Sick of us being flat track bullies rolling over as soon as we play a team above us in the league.

Not sure, I don't think so.

We have made some good signings and got rid of the some of the dross - but we needed to.

It's far too early to say, I think we will have a better league season this time around and finish higher. Whether that is top 4 I am not sure.
Looking a lot better but not the time to be making rash predictions.

I'm not sure, I'd imagine they'll wait and see how he turns out- I'm sure Chelsea don't want another Sturridge scenario!

Average age of 25.3 years with Gerrard, Toure and Jones the only three over 30.

Seems you're right, second youngest after Villa. WBA with an average age of 28.5 years?

Great start but not getting carried away. It's a marathon not a sprint etc but nice to have a cushion, no matter how small at this stage.

Really impressed with the summer signings. Mignolet and Toure have both had tremendous starts and won over any doubting fans already. Aspas and Alberto have a lot more to do but I like what I see from both. I see Aspas as an impact sub when Suarez is back.

I'm over the moon with today's signings. Sakho is for the here and now, with Ilori one for the future. Apparently he's even faster than Christiano Ronaldo over 30 yards which will allow us to press higher up the park.

Moses could turn out to be a shrewd bit of business too. I really like him as a player and will offer another creative spark. Disappointed there's no option to buy in the contract but won't make any difference at the end of the season.

With Borini going out on loan I'm hoping for another forward in but that's probably asking a bit much.
