Turned it off, what was said?

"I presume we wont see Rooney against Swansea, but will we see him in a United shirt before the end of the month?"

"I think it was good for him to get this time, and it'll help him when he is ready to play again."

Something like that.

Kind of makes you think we might not see him in a United shirt again doesn't it?
I think so, but I guess we'll have to wait and see ;)

Haha cheers, that does sound like he could be off

"feck Wayne Rooney"

At least that's what I heard.

By the way duffer any chance you might take your comedy stylings on the road? Partly because it deserves to see a wider audience than Redcafe but also because you're running out of Rooney material!

They said to Moyes that obviously Rooney wouldn't feature Saturday but would we see him turn out for United before the end of the month perhaps and he just said it was good to see him get a game under his belt and work on getting fit to feature.

Just seemed odd.

Could it not be he just doesn't want to set any arbitrary date for a comeback which could be built up into an event? I didn't see it so I'm genuinely wondering.

This whole saga has been baffling. Doubt we'll ever know the whole truth. (Although many will act as though they do, of course)

Wonder which niggling injury will keep him out of the Swansea game.

We should organise a sweepstake.

In fairness to Duffer that's probably what the so-called Rooney 'camp' heard. After all, Rooney became angry and confused after a press conference where Moyes said we needed Rooney, we'd suffer badly without him if we lost RVP for some reason and that he planned to play Rooney and Van Persie together...

This is strange. Is this anyone here?

He was absolutely shit. Exactly the type of performance that he put in all last season.

It was Chiles who says "obviously we won't see him on Saturday". If Rooney's future wasn't in doubt, I really don't think he'd be saying that. United and Moyes would be desperate to give him minutes to get his match fitness back. If he's not match fit, what benefit does not playing him have?

Yeah exactly.

What?

If he's not match fit then he shouldn't be starting for United because we have players who are fit and who can put in a better performance against Swansea. He was shite tonight, so shouldn't be playing as he's clearly not ready

Shaggy: I don't follow that person, but we must have similar feelings on Rooney

I'm most certainly not in any "Rooney camp". I am angry and confused more than half the time though.

We're really slagging off a player who's played just 45 mins of football since May?

yes and one who made a blatant dig at our manager for suggesting he was unfit and has been prancing about in front of the media to prove him wrong for 2 days.if we had that shit served up on sunday wigan would have been delighted he played. swansea would be licking their lips at the thought of him playing. lets see what he puts on facebook now. dick.

I got the same impression. I was expecting a much more straightforward answer from Moyes, something along the lines of "Yes we hope to see him playing by then" but he sort of avoided the question didn't he?

Agreed, but you think he would make the bench or get some minutes as a sub. Moyes just ignored the query.

Not wanting to defend Rooney, but that was his first match in this pre season. He looked woefully short of match fitness, so obviously he isn't ready to start playing again, good that he got 60minutes today.

So, that means he will never get fit, because he'll remain unfit as fitter players keep starting ahead of him.

There's only one way to get match fit. Play matches. Why delay getting him match fit? I'm not saying he should start, but the way Moyes addressed the question, it seemed as if he's not even a contender for the bench. How's he going to get match fit by not playing?

Of course he's dodging questions. He must be sick of being asked the same shite over and over again. Besides, the question ''will we see him in a United shirt before the end of the month'' is just a thinly-veiled attempt to ask if he'll be staying at United - for the millionth time this summer.

I thought it was quite clear that Moyes is sick of being asked about Rooney. Didn't the club ask some reporters to avoid the Rooney questions because he's tired of repeating himself before/at some press-conference or is my mind playing tricks on me?

Exactly. It would have been easier to say that rather than avoid it so blatantly.

You can get fit in lots of ways, they obviously train loads and do gym work.

He looked rusty as hell tonight and shouldn't be starting in a tough opener at Swansea. Get him training and playing some football and maybe he'll be match ready in a week, because he clearly isn't now.

His performance was nowhere near as bad as people are making out. Just reaffirmed for me how good his movement is if i'm honest. If he plays up top for anyone this season he's going to score 30+ imo.
