We all know about Fellaini's strengths, but I hope we get to see a different side to him in his passing range and ability on the ball also.

He is clearly a very tidy player otherwise he would not be getting games in a very talented Belgium side - I think with our players around him his abilities will become even better.

That's a complete myth, he is absolutely fine is possession but its the common criticism a few on here use to beat him with. You make it sound like we have signed Lee Cattermole when Fellaini is a far more rounded footballer, he isn't some hacker who can't actually play which you will see if you give him a chance.

He'll keep it tidy and no doubt there wont be the defence splitting passes of Fabregas or Thiago, but that isn't his game. He is more than good enough possession wise to replace Cleverley in the team who is the definition of a safe passer. Fellaini could do that exact role with no real decline in quality, whilst adding so much more to the side.

He's got a better pass rate than Cleverley this season now that hes actually playing as a midfielder and not a striker.

Yeah but he was playing higher up the pitch where team put more pressure on. You're comparing him to midfielders

As far as I'm aware, his form for Belgium is considered a bit underwhelming. No surprise as he usually plays CM there, not AM.

Then again, international form isn't really a good indicator of anything to be fair. Judging by his performances for England Rooney's not good enough to be a key player for United.

His weakness is his passing, I think we can all agree on that. I guess we'll have to wait and see if it's good enough for our midfield.
 
I've found him to be a decent passer myself. He's not that creative and likes to keep things simple, but to claim that he's a poor passer or struggles to pass the ball is way off the mark.

Wasn't the tricky part giving Anders the €36m for the buy-out clause, but then the tax man saying to Anders "that's a taxable income @50%" - so we would have had to fork out €54m - if we were stupid enough that is.

Wasn't that the same problem that Bayern had & the reason why they hired the Madrid Imposters to fix it & most likely the reason why United & Anders contacted the same dudes (Madrid Imposters) that his mate Martinez used to sort his move out. It took a couple of weeks for the deal to go through aswell, if memory serves?!

I'd love to know the full story of this shite, there could be legal wranglings about this too, it all sounds well dodgy. Like United leavin the scene of the crime & seeing nothing type of thing. With Ed, Moyesy & Anders brickin it that they're gonna get questioned about it. It all sounds fecked up anyway & no-one of any interest is reportin on the incident today. I went on UEFA.com 1st thing this morn & there's no mention of the imposters scenario & you'd think the cops would be onto this carry-on checkin it out or atleast the Spanish FA would be investigating...
 
I like him and think he'll surprise a few, but on the eye he can look a bit uncomfortable on the ball even though he isn't . He's very unorthodox as a central midfielder.

Actually, no, his passing is not my main concern, especially if we play Kagawa/Rooney ahead of him.

I am more worried about the defensive sides of his game; positioning and tracking. Not convinced he is mature enough in this aspects; I think his size masks a problem with positional discipline.

I think his role at United will be more specific and the players around him will be of a higher level, so he will be a different player. Hopefully for the better.

Let's hope so. In theory I agree, he should make a good partner for Carrick and would be well suited to playing behind a playmaker but with some license to get forward and make trouble in the box (arguably his best quality).

Will be nice to have some goals from CM in any case!

The use of the word "impostors" was coined in the SSN studio first, then it caught on and more news outlets went with it.

 
The fee was too high, the circumstances ridiculous and the overall transfer window has been a shambles, but he will be a good signing for us I reckon.

No, as mentioned the club + Herrera would pay the fee together, not Herrera alone. This then makes the deal exempt from tax & VAT as you can can only tax a individual. Here's the FIFA ruling on the subject:
Statute of the FIFA Article 17.2 comes into action which paves way for Bayern in their capture. The article states that the buyout clause must be paid by the player and his new club together and there is no obligation on the new club and respective player to pay taxation monies.

The transaction is exempt from VAT following the precedent set by Ronaldo’s transfer to Real Madrid 10 years ago. Liga de Futbol Profesional has it in good accord that binding the specified payment of the clause; clubs are exempt from this tax as it is considered compensatory in nature.

On the other hand, the proceedings are exempt from income tax depending on FIFA’s Article on Players' Status. Bayern together with the player will make payment of the clause, and hence, it will be a transaction between two clubs, two legal entities.

Since there is no individual involved, no income tax will be levied on the whole deal. The personal income tax applies only to individuals and therefore it is inapplicable in the current scenario.

The biggest issue for the club in using a release clause is that they will have to ask sports and tax lawyers to confirm the exact ruling and the wording of the contracts, and they'll want an indemnity in case of legal/tax office challenge.

It took Munich about a month to get the formal statements in place. We're on the Friday before a Monday deadline

Have you noticed that no-one is running with the Lawyers Firm thing instead of Imposters today though. Everyone (apart from us) seems to be just laughin about it & carrying-on, no-one's mentioned yer man's tweet about the Bayern-Martinez transfer & them being the same blokes. That's feckin strange that no-one's makin a bigger deal out of it & questioning what the hell was goin on!

I was wishful-thinkin that there'd be some sort commotion today about it. That United & Bilbao were prevented from doing a transfer by outside forces & we'd be allowed to complete the transfer if all parties agreed, with United havin had time to cop on to themselves overnight & pay the extra £5/6m :lol:

Whatever the fecking clause in there, surely a team such as Manchester United can have an adept legal team to have a look at this, even at last minute.

Bilbao would have easilly calculated the whole amount to pay for us, it's not exactly rocket science for those highly paid lawyers
 
Take your Herrera induced anger elsewhere. This is the big mans thread. I for one am fecking delighted we've signed this beast... reckon he'll prove the doubters very wrong.
 
I'm on the fence with Fellaini, but considering what the implications of our manager getting this one wrong are considering he's spent the last four years working with him, I'm going to forget about the price, say he'll be a good signing and declare that anyone who has any doubts about him have never watched him play. Welcome aboard Marouane.
