Marouane Fellaini | 2013/14 Performances

Felliani will be fine. Gives Moyes options and solidifies the back four. As for fixing our inability to break teams down the final third, we will need to wait for another season it seems.

In many ways, it makes sense for Moyes. His first season, he will want to assess and ensure stability in the team and the performance before building his style. Cautious Dave.

Since when have we had an inability to break teams down in the final third? We scored 86 league goals last season. Since the sale of Ronaldo we've scored an average 2.23 goals per league game. We're easily the most prolific goalscorers in the Premier League. There is no inability to break teams down in the final third - quite the opposite in fact.

Still can't tell if you're wumming.

 He is playing it safe. He can call it either way, depending on whether Fellaini performs. Personally I think he is wumming.

Fellaini will be a solid addition, may even silence a few people the way Carrick did, but he won't be the scintillating player Kevin the WUM speaks of.... and he knows it. He is very entertaining though, but slightly deranged about his eloquence.

Not really what he meant though. Kind of meant he can be a cult hero like Cantona which I think he will be to a lesser degree and he can become a key player in big games which he will be.
Yes I know, the headline didn't properly reflect the story! I'm really not sure about Fellaini myself, wait and see what he does on the pitch and how Moyes deploys him... still he's got the shirt now so he'll get my support

It must feel pretty cool to play for the two red devils. I actually never knew that Belgium shared that nickname with United until a while back!

And, if my dad was correct, United's nickname was bestowed on them by a Belgian side, Anderlecht, after their 10-0 drubbing in a European Cup tie at Maine Road. I asked my dad once how the name came about and that's what he said. Could have been having me on though.

Sir Matt nicked the name 'Red Devils' from Salford Rugby League club

There won't ever be another Keane. :(

Keane scared people with his tough tackles and sometimes stamping on them when they were on the floor. Jones will scare people with the faces he pulls

Anyone care to summarise his performances for Belgium during this break?

Only played one match vs Scotland - didn't have much to do and kept it simple, got taken off around the hour mark. There's a video on page 31 if you're bored.

“But if you are buying a player, you put him where you want him to play and I haven’t got a clue what his best position is.”

Hang on, Howard Kendal says that he won't improve the team because Howard Kendal doesn't know what his best position is?

OK.

Never mind the man who has managed him for the last 4 years, the important thing is whether Howard Kendal knows where to play him.

And people were suggesting this was sensible comment?

I can't believe how negative you lot are about Fellaini in general. I think he's as close as was available to exactly what we need and will have a massive impact on our season.

Is he as technically gifted as Herrera or Thiago? No. Does he give us something we desperately need in a way that they wouldn't? Yes.

We could have done with a more skilled and mobile player as well, but the Fellaini role was the more important to fill.

He won't be the new Roy Keane, but it's been a decade and the Premier League still hasn't seen the new Roy Keane. I think he can be closer to being that than a lot of you think though.

I agree - Fellaini was the one I wanted all summer, he is exactly what we have been missing and I can see him becoming a crowd favourite

I'm not negative, but I am pretty passive about him. Frankly I don't know him well enough. I don't watch Everton players with the intensity that I watch ours, or our known targets. I don't watch Everton unless they're playing us, or more casually when they're playing our main rivals. I watch match highlights at times, but I don't think you can find out much about him from that.

For me, right now, he's one of those mystery objects - sometimes good against us, but I'm not sure how good he is against other people. The kind that can, as much because of their physique as their technique, do us real damage, without being someone I'd be hoping for us to buy. Continuing the Everton theme, I used to have the same reaction to Duncan Ferguson amongst others.

I suspect he'll have games when he looks like the missing piece of our midfield and others when he just looks like a big bloke with a lot of hair and too many elbows. But I'm happy to wait and see and at least it won't be long now. International breaks are a pain.

For me, the thing is I don't think he actually solves any of the troubles our first XI midfield usually have.

He won't help us pass our way out of defence, which we're largely in agreement that we're not very good at.

He won't give us added control in CM when pressurized high up the pitch, which we struggle with.

He won't give us any dynamism in a midfield two, and won't help us connect our central midfielders to the rest of the side.

He won't help us play through the middle of teams due to his incisive or creative passing.

He isn't particularly aware defensively, and we've got Carrick anyway for that, so he won't really make us that much more solid. Sure, he'll clatter into people and throw some elbows, but in terms of us looking more cohesive as a defensive unit - no.

What he does is he gives us an option when Carrick doesn't play, which is obviously dearly needed, and he does give us an option as a goalscorer from midfield.

Had his first training session with us yesterday. Delighted that his United career has officially kicked off.

I disagree with virtually every point you have made there - apart from the incisive passing, he will give us all the rest.
