Manchester City vs. Manchester United

Why the feck are these games always clashing with the All-Ireland final ?

Why the hell have 5 live got Robbie feckin Fowler previewing the Derby?

It's the most sacred rule in British sports broadcasting - ex-Liverpool players must be involved with all football punditry, especially when it has feck all to do with them.

Moyes was rather cryptic regarding the players who are injured or might be returning from injury in his press conference today.

I have a sneaky feeling he might surprise us with Welbeck and Rafa starting this one  - like Fergie did last season when we all thought Cleverley and Valencia would miss this fixture and both started it.

Both would be a massive bonus.

man, that game :(

damn ballack.

we also had another goal denied by another goal line clearance, from RVN if i am not mistaken. at least more than half of the ball was over the line.

I seem to remember a Forlan volley in the dying minutes as well.. that might have been in another game.

I might miss the first few minutes of this.

I'd go for:

De Gea
Smalling - Ferdinand - Vidic - Evra
Carrick - Fellaini
Valencia - Rooney - Young
Van Persie

Same as Tuesday but with Welbeck for Kagawa. Also I wouldn't mind Evans getting a run-out instead of Rio. He was creaking a bit against Leverkusen.

I'm thinking the same. However, I don't know about Evan's match fitness in regards to returning for such a big game. Also, Rio is usually pretty solid next to Vidic in these big games. I do agree though that Evans should get some game time over Rio in the coming weeks.

Pellegrini says his squad now have a winning mentality. "I don't know what happened in the past but I know that our mentality at the moment is very strong. So strong but more strong than Manchester United,"
His mind games are pretty shit.

Yep I'm with you there. Despite the annoying Leverkusen goals, which could easily have been prevented, I do think that our central defensive selection issues are nice ones, i.e: too many good players.

Right now that's not even mind games, it's just a flat lie. The daft pundits might be acting as if United and City have had equally slow starts to the season, but while we've drawn with Chelsea and lost at Anfield, City have lost to Cardiff and drawn with Stoke. Hardly indicative of a 'winning mentality'...

Or maybe Kagawa instead of Welbeck.

City have been woeful so far in the league. Should have lost to Hull at home and Stoke should have hammered them with the amount of chances they had. Apparently they were very good against Plzen in the CL but if they bring their league form tomorrow we'll beat them

Yep, exactly. Unfortunately our derby rivals tend to have an annoying habit of 'turning around' bad spells of form against us. Fingers crossed we can avoid that.

Why are so many pissing their pants at the idea of playing City? It will be a really tough game but they've hardly set the world alight with their performances.

Wouldn't be surprised if this finished 0-0.

While I do see the reasoning behind Valencia at RB, I do think that is a last resort. Smalling or Fabio will be ahead of Valencia every day for this one.

I'd actually be disappointed with that, based on both teams' current form. They've been very uninspiring against some very poor opponents. Lucky not to have lost more points already.

I also think it has a draw written all over it, maybe not a 0-0 draw but I would have my money on a draw. I hope I am wrong though. However, it wouldn't be the worst result.

de Gea
Fabio Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Carrick Fellaini
Valencia Rooney Welbeck
van Persie
--
Lindegaard; Smalling; Anderson, Cleverley, Giggs, Nani; Hernandez

Young will probably be involved, however...

1-1.

Looks like Lawro has this one sussed:

"What makes this derby interesting is that, if one of these team loses, they have only got seven points from a possible 15 and will have lost two of their first five games. That is part of the reason I think this is a nailed-on draw."

Brilliant.

He has a point. As with the Chelsea game it's more important that not to lose for both teams.

I think he'll play this game because he's praised too much by Moyes after last performance, so I don't think he'll end up on the bench, and I would like to see Nani and Welbeck too, so I put him on RB.

That's all well and good but it isn't where he'll play.

I would love..

----------De Gea----------
Fabio---Rio-----Vida----Pat
-----Carrick---Fellaini------
Valencia---------------Nani
----------Rooney----------
-----------RvP------------

But I expect that we'll see Young start over Nani & Jones/Smalling over Fabio.

But then you said you expected him to play because of Moyes' comments so which is it Amar? Eh? Eh?

I expect him in the team because of Moyes' comments, but I would like to see Nani and Welbeck playing too, so to make all that possible(with Rooney and van Persie also nailed to be in starting lineup), I put him on RB. Clear?

So it's a hybrid of the team you would like to see and the team you expect to see. Due to that you expect to see Valencia in the side but you wouldn't like him to be in one of the wing spots which means he has to play full back which, ironically, is neither where you would like, or indeed expect, to actually see him.

Got it

Yes, I'd describe it as hybrid of those two, but I never said I wouldn't like to see Valencia on RB, I am fine with him playing in that position, I also said before the Chelsea and Liverpool game that I would like him to start in RB, so that means you missunderstood me.
