Manchester City vs. Manchester United

De Gea
Rafael - Ferdinand - Vidic - Evra
Carrick - Fellaini
Valencia - Rooney - Nani
RVP

Think it will be a draw, a win would obviously be fantastic, would have biten your hand off for if offered 10 points after our horrible five opening fixtures.

Seems the more likely formation but Nani has barely featured thus far, so I reckon we'll see Young or Giggs at LW.

We'd all like to see a top form Nani in the lineup, but how could he possibly start today. He's not been playing, so no way is he going to get pitched straight into this one.

I think that's a really important point. Braindead pundits keep referring to this as a 'slow start', but we're actually two points better off than we were out of the same fixtures last season. 10 points would be a strong return from such difficult games. Chelsea and City have both managed a similar return but from much, much easier games.

You keep making this point but how so?

We beat Swansea: +2 pts
We drew with Chelsea: + 1 pt
We lost at Anfield: -3 pts
We beat Palace: they weren't in the PL last season but we beat all relegated teams (or last season's newly promoted sides) at OT so it's no change either way.

We had 7 points from the same set of fixtures last season, just like this season.

I'd rather see Nani on the left than Welbeck, Young or Kagawa - he'd offer a threat of going by Kolarov who's an average player. Nani has also been fit for quite a long time, the Liverpool game was 3 weeks ago.

Pretty sure he rested Young to have him ready for this game. No idea why, but I think we'll beat City no matter what combination we put as our front 4.

Zabaleta's the right back and he's pretty good 1v1 in truth. I'd start Nani too but it's not like he's in form at the moment and Young has done well against City previously.

Nani seems to love the big game stage though. He hadn't played a lot last season and then was ace against Real (apart from the ref of course). I would deffo go for Nani over Young.

I think the team pretty much picks itself but for right back and left wing. I thought smalling played really well but then Fabio did well too. Smalling is better defensively but Fabio is better in attack. I don't think either will make a massive difference.

Left wing is more interesting. Depending on whos fit you could have Young, Kagawa, Welbeck, Giggs and Nani in contention. I think if Welbeck has been training most the week and is fit then he's a good shout for the spot. Personally I think Kagawa can give us a good hour and can give us an extra spark of creativity that we might just need. Fellaini adds to the defensive strength in the middle to cover him.

Personally as much as I will defend Giggs playing over others in some games/circumstances personally I don't think he should play here. He's seemingly been rested a fair bit but I just don't know if he bring the balance we need. Could be a good impact option though.

If RvP is really out, then I think we're more likely to see Cleverley/Anderson come in to the middle... Or Giggs behind Rooney....

Might be interesting to see Fellaini behind Rooney, but we'll see! Hopefully the RvP stuff is bollocks though.

If RVP is out, I cannot see Nani starting. It will probably be Rooney up top on his own, and 5 across the middle. I expect Young to start on the left instead of Kagawa and Valencia on the right. gigs will probably get the nod to play in front of Carrick and Fellaini, and get up to support Wayne.

In my view moyes will keep it tight, and hope that on the rare occasion when we do create a serious chance, that we will take it. For that reason I see no more than a 2-1 for either team, most likely a 1-1. Think both teams would be happy enough with that. Would love to beat these feckers though, and if we do start with RVP and Rooney I think we could nick it.

He's more capable of having a stormer against top defences than any of our attacking midfielders/wingers but he's had plenty of stinkers in the big games too. He was poor against Liverpool in his last game, I don't remember him doing much against Arsenal in his last game of last season and that performance against Chelsea was one of the worst in his United career.

would be quite amazing, if 2.5-3hours before kick off, the only source on VP being out is some nobody on twitter!

few on another site saying Evans is starting instead of Vidic. Hopefully that turns out to be as bollocks as well! It best be

I think the same side. City are still have great players and players like Toure and in particular Aguero are unstoppable if they want to be. If Aguero is on it then it's going to be a long afternoon for our defence.

Please stop being retarded and start Nani.

Not really. Just look at how shit the transfer window is now. Little twerp's thinking its hilarious to make things up in the hope of getting recognition.

Not long til the teams are announced. When it gets to this stage, I don't care any more, just get out there and give it to them. Moyes' first win at a big club today, here we go.

Yeah, good post - there's no point in pages and pages of 'FFS, why is Young starting? FFS why is Giggs starting?' There's nothing we can do but sit back and enjoy. That said, I dearly hope Nani plays today.

After the performance Valencia had last time? Maybe on the left.

Easily. While it was a massive improvement from Valencia, I'd still expect a lot more from Nani. But if it means potentially helping Valencia gain some decent consistency, then yeah the left is fine. Either way he is our best winger by a distance and needs to be playing games.

We beat City in 2010/2011 at their stadium and i'm pretty sure they had a fair bit of star players at that time (Unless you mean for United).
I don't think many regarded City up there then. I don't look into the stats that are thrown about but the one about Moyes never winning at Anfield, Chelsea, Arsenal etc (big clubs). This is his 2nd chance to do so at United. It's bound to happen, so why not now.

C'mon United!

Moyes has a good record against the Sheiks doesn't he? Has won a fair amount of times home and away if I'm not wrong.

Won at home and drew away last year. Unlucky not to beat them away actually, i think it was due to a dodgy penalty decision by Fellaini.

City
Hart, Zabaleta, Kompany, Nastasic, Kolarov, Fernandinho, Toure, Nasri, Navas, Aguero, Negredo

A very good record, at Goodison. I think he did also against Chelsea, even us too. Just needs to do it at their ground. I don't buy into the theory that he can't, it's different doing it with Everton and Anichebe leading the line compared to United and RVP.
