Are Belgium the next big thing in International Football?

I don't think they're the next big thing in international football. They're a medium sized football nation having a very good generation, like others have before them. Maybe a similar level as Czech Republic in 2004, although they had a geniune world superstar in their side.

Kompany is one of the best CBs around at the moment and Hazard/Lukaku could both be one of the BPITW in their respective positions. So could Courtois to be fair.

Kompany looks like he should be the keyboard player in Chic or somethin'.

That statement can be/was applied to Spain for a couple decades until the right group of players came along at the right time.
A hell-of-a-lot seemed to change in Spanish football at that time, not just the right players.

Not that I know whats going on with Belgium. Borrowing their political brothers coaches?

I still think Belgium are being overrated. They definitely have potential, but their players aren't anywhere near the likes of Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Spain or Holland

The most important thing for this current generation of players will not just be to perform well at the world cup but to qualify with style to the Euro 2016 (even if it'll be easier but more teams allowed than usual). Continuity of excellent performances is really difficult.

By some people who think we'll stroll to the semi finals maybe, but I don't think that's what most people are expecting. A second round match or maybe a quarter final place would be nice already. Of course, on a WC you never know. You can be lucky with the draw or you could get Germany or Brazil immediately in the second round.

I disagree about Holland. I think Belgium is at least as strong as Holland at the moment. The only world class players they have left are Van Persie and Robben. The rest is over the hill or plain mediocre. Especially their defence is a weak point. I don't expect them anywhere near the final to be honest. They did well in their qualifying group, but that was a very easy group. Holland has played 6 games against top 25 countries the past 1,5 years and they didn't manage to win a single one of them. I think if any nation is overrated, it's them.

Indeed. I think some people (mostly from other countries) are expecting a bit too much of this team. They're a good and talented group of players, but apart from Kompany, Hazard and Courtois there aren't any real world class players yet. Also, they lack experience at this stage and in these kind of games. I think the 2014 WC will be a great learning experience for them and 2016 and 2018 should be the championships where they can really try and get something if they continue to develop.
