van Persie, who just might hit form after scoring during international week.
He's already well in form. Scoring even faster for us than he did last season. Even the Mail as noticed as much.

We have very few really technically-gifted players or players who are comfortable under pressure and simply adept at retaining possession and keeping the tempo high.

Yes we do.

Yes we do.

Just because he's more prolific at this stage than last season doesn't mean he's in form. Daily Mail noticed did they? Shit, that changes my opinion if such a reputable newspaper such as the Daily Mail consider him to be in form.

Not many we don't. You are kidding yourself if you think contrary to that.

Nani to dazzle the crowd and score a belter!

Remember his first goal? Came when we weren't playing well and struggling to create chances, then BAM a screamer in the top corner. Was against Spurs I think.

Since it looks like RVP has a slight knock, hopefully we'll see Kagawa behind Rooney, with Nani and Januzaj on the wings. Not sure who will partner Carrick in the middle though because Cleverley and Fellaini are both carrying knocks I think. Probably anderson. Lot of potential for great football in that lineup though.

Apparently, if you discount penalties, he has failed to score in 14 of the last 18 games. Not exactly well in form.

I'm nervous about this one, they don't have so many internationals so they have been focusing on this for the best part two weeks uninterrupted. Not to mention teams always struggle the first game back from internationals.

Not to mention that they are a very good side

frustrating with VP at the moment. Injury doubt, scores a hatrick, then another niggly injury doubt.

Not making fantasy footy easy this year.

Keep? Swap for Rooney, or go elsewhere entirely?

Haha! We know fantasy football is more important than the real thing!! I signed a young Belgian/Serbian/English/Albanian lad and I expect I have now cursed his career!!

Miffed to feck about the news on Robin and we have no idea how serious it is but if he trained which he has then surely it can't be so bad.

I really wouldn't mind any two of Kagawa, Rooney and Hernandez playing up front tomorrow.

The midfield is a permanent problem so I've given up worrying about it too much. As long as it's not too outlandish we'll get by.

It's the wide positions I'll be curious to see. Nani and Januzaj deserve to play there (as does Kagawa if other players are occupying our front two positions), yet I wouldn't be surprised if others are picked ahead of them.

Adnan and Nani either side of Kagawa playing behind Rooney,Robin or Javier could be good! I agree the midfield is a headache but it can only be Fellaini and Carrick so no real issues this weekend.I'd love Fellaini to have THAT performance where he arrives as a United player!

Against Southampton we will need to play players who are comfortable under pressure and simply retain possession well, given how high Southampton press the opposition - more than any other side in the league. Goalkeeper is pretty self-explanatory, but the defence is what has come under scrutiny with our poor distribution from the back. Vidic, Jones, Smalling and even Ferdinand now are all uncomfortable on the ball and are often far too direct when in possession. Evans at least offers a semblance of calm and allows us to play out from the back, I think Vidic will also benefit from having a centre back alongside him who can play out from the back. Rafael and Evra speaks for itself.
Massive disappointment that Cleverley is injured, particularly for this game as he is far more suited to play alongside Carrick than Fellaini when playing high-pressure teams, as it is it'll have to be Fellaini if his wrist doesn't play up; Anderson and Giggs aren't good enough in possession, so that only leaves Fellaini as a viable option really. Scoring two goals in your last game warrants inclusion in any case, so Januzaj should start especially seeing as he can't participate against Real Sociedad. Kagawa offers a better link between midfield and attack than Rooney, so we should be able to progress further up the pitch better with more fluidity and tempo to our play. Welbeck is also very comfortable in possession, so that's why I'd opt for him.
Hard choice between Rooney and van Persie. Rooney has easily been our best player this season, but we need van Persie to hit form again and his hat-trick for Holland might be an indication he is heading that way. If he starts he might get some momentum and start scoring regularly again.

You talk complete sense, except for the fact you have left out our best player this season.

As I said in the last paragraph it's a difficult choice. I think we need to play someone who can link the midfield and attack better, so it's a question of whether to play van Persie or Rooney as the sole striker. Either choice is a difficult one, but I'd really like to see van Persie work himself into form and gain a bit of momentum after an impressive international break for Holland.

Van Persie has to start, I agree, but so does Rooney. Wayne was great at linking midfield and attack just a few days ago against Poland. Nani was also in top form midweek so I would probably start him over Welbeck. Either way we have options.

In reality it's a non option though. Kagawa isn't even close to taking the no 10 role from Rooney. The only way this will happen is if we rest Rooney, which isn't likely as he is in a run of good form.

He was, but for whatever reason he doesn't seem to play as deep for United, whether that is because Moyes wants him further advanced I don't know, but that probably is the case.

Against Southampton, we will always need open options to receive a pass, as United most likely won't have time to take time in possession. If our forwards are as isolated as they were against Sunderland, we will really struggle. It will also allow us to play at a higher tempo and play slicker and more dynamic football.

Start him instead of RvP then. We will struggle if we play like we did against Sunderland and our strikers are isolated and midfield too open.

Will Moyes think that way though? He has shown little inclination to trust Kagawa so far particularly in the no 10 role. I think Rooney will definitely start as he is in a run of excellent form and I'd be fairly sure Moyes will start RvP if he's fit, simply because he's RvP. As it is I think Kagawa will be lucky to even start on the wing, what with Nani, Januzaj and the ever present Valencia to contend with.

Probably not, bear in mind this is from my perspective of what I'd do, but I really don't expect Moyes to play that team. Januzaj has to start really, he was excellent in our last game and he can't play midweek in the CL which is further cause for inclusion. Moyes might opt to play Welbeck as well.

Not confident in this game at all and it could be another West Brom

Another West Brom as in surprising result or upset? I wouldn't be surprised if we drop points. Hope the break has gotten them off their rythm while we come back with one... Yeah, that will happen.

I'll be disappointed if BerryBerryShrew doesn't start, he simply deserves it after his last match.

I think Januzaj will start. Not so much because of display last time out (obviously plays a part though) but I feel in terms of the squad it's the right option at the moment. He won't be involved midweek, so I think rest (whoever is coming back from international duty) a player who will play wide against Sociedad.

Unless Moyes decides to take Januzaj out of the spotlight for a couple of game? Between his performance last time and the speculation surrounding his international career, maybe Moyes will decide to let some of the hype die down a bit.

Thought Rooney and Kagawa linked up well earlier this year, in the same fixture. With Rooney and Van Persie, as good a signing he's been, they still have a long way to go to form a more fluid partnership where they are constantly looking for each other. I suppose chances being generated from the wings doesn't help, but still. I'm looking forward to this. Carrick is the key to this game IMO. Sunderland pressed him really well, but for the first team in decades, he didn't succumb to the pressure easily, but used his intelligence to pass himself out of the press.

I'm going for a draw. Still not much confidence in united under Moyes. We will rotate a lot from the Sunderland team and it will make us easier to get at in the first half. I expect us to be chasing the game in the second half.

Curious to see Pochettino and whether Southampton resemble Asspanyol. He was an intense player, is an intense coach and his teams were almost always ferocious in defense & pressing - routinely on the wrong side of fairplay

That's sort of what I mean though. He won't play midweek, so there is a chance to leave him out there.

Unusually confident about this one, 4-0 to us with Rooney causing havoc.

Edit: Oh, and given Januzaj's new contract I am sure he will start.

I think it is. It's so bizarre that it is sheer brilliance. It's that fine line between genius and insanity.

At first I thought it was a spelling mistake, but that fact he wrote it twice is just the best. I still don't understand why they haven't given him a tagline for it. Post of the year by far.

No Carrick is always bad news. Fellaini and Jones or Giggs or Anderson in central midfield.

Southampton play the sort of football that Carrick struggles with the most on the ball. It's a loss if he is indeed out but its not the team I'd expect a stellar performance from him in anyway.

It is definitely one of my favorite posts of all time on the Caf. Spelling mistake or not it still wouldn't make sense, and the GIF to go along with it. Perfection. Now that Januzaj's signed on we can keep using it as well, without any bitterness.

I have a feeling Zaha will be involved in some capacity today.
