Manchester United Vs Southampton

I'm surprised by the Fellaini stat. Just goes to show how subjective and emotional us fans can be. My impression was that Fellaini had been a total liability. I wasn't about to get on his back for it because he looks nervous tbh and likely just needs time to settle.

Fans should support him despite privately thinking he looks about as useful as a dick flavoured lollipop.

Fellaini is coming across as bad because most people had him down as some tough tackling anchorman. He's just not that player.

How can you have the most touches of the ball on the pitch and still be the worst at using the ball on the pitch?

We've got to get a second because I have a feeling lambert has a goal in him against our backup centrebacks.

But that's the thing..im not sure what he is out there for? Is his only redeeming quality his ability to chest down an aerial ball?

What happened to Fletcher a number of years ago is happening to Fellaini. Its uncanny how similar it is.

How exactly? I'm not seeing the game with any continuity so would like a view from someone not just saying he is shite.

I've always felt we miss Fletcher arriving in the box and pushing as forward (other than the defensive work). I expected Fellaini to play a similar role for us, and Fletcher did get a lot of stick pre-2008/9 so you may be onto something.

Glad to see I am not the only who thought Fellaini hasn't been bad.

The only time you ever make a comment on Fellaini is when he makes an error. Funny that you never say anything about any of his good moments. For example that receive, turn and perfectly weighted pass to Adnan late in the half didnt get a peep out of you.

Its not my fault he's always making errors. I didnt mention his 4 interceptions? Thats funny

Southampton have played very well, but De Gea was hardly tested. I wouldn't count on that in the second half though. We need to keep the ball better. Hopefully Fellaini has a better 45 otherwise I can't see that happening.

We've been better in the first 45, and could have had another. Good play on both wings, with Evra and Rafael offering excellent support. Jones and Evans doing well at CB too. Credit to Southampton for giving it a go. Hopefully they're not rewarded in the second half.

The ref's given the kick-off to Southampton.

Fellaini will possibly be more useful in a 3 man midfield in the champions league. He looks out of place in this line up.

Of course his passing stats are gonna be good, he takes the safest pass there is every time, just to get rid of the ball.. Hope he finds his stride soon because he just seems sullen out there

Well 2 of the times when everyone reacted to his touch were when he got 2 absolute hospital balls to him from shart passes which meant he was nailed before he even got the ball. Nobody mentioned the awful passes but nailed him for a poor first touch. The thing Im seeing is no more mistakes than anyone else but any time he makes a mistake he gets hammered for it. Same deal as Fletcher all those years ago. In one game I remember everyone was slagging Fletcher off in the game they way Fellaini is copping it and the big complaint was that he was giving the ball away. I watched the game again the next day and counted the times he lost possession. It was twice in the first 5 minutes and after that he didnt lose it again all game. However in the after match ratings everyone said he was a 5 because he lost possession all the time.
Im seeing a similar pattern here.

Good performance so far. Moyes really has to be winning games like this but we look solid defensively and the front four look good. Fellaini's going to need time like all new signings. Rooney and RVP are the match winners so encouraging to see RVP scoring and Rooney looking like he is in one of his runs of good form. That will make a massive difference to Moyes.

The game is going how most of us thought it would, Southampton are set up perfectly to play against us, and it's showing. We do look dangerous going forward though, so hopefully we can nick the second goal I think we'll need to win. Rafael looks a bit rusty which isn't all that surprising, and Southampton are clearly targeting Fellaini when he has the ball deep in our half. Giggs may be a good idea, at least he has the agility to go by players, the Carrick-Fellaini partnership is very one paced and pedestrian.

We're not brilliant, but we're doing what needs to be done. I missed the first 10 minutes, but apart from Rooney's massive feck up, I didn't really see any clear cut chances from Southampton. We should definitely create more chances, but I'm not gonna nitpick when we lead 1-0 pretty comfortably.

Oh, and if we're gonna keep playing 4-4-2, then I guess this Nani/Januzaj combination on the wings is the best.

He is given the ball away at least 3-4 times I think only once was he under real pressure. It just felt every time we lost the ball in our half it was him.

Get used to them being our CBs, not our backups. Evans in particular deserves to be starting for us with AN other.

But he touched the ball most. Yes you've figured it out, its easy to make lots of passes and achieve more than 85% pass accuracy when you are so negative in your use of the ball. Thats why CBs always top the passing lists. In fact thats what hes reminded me of today, a CB in midfield
