Bundesliga 13/14

What a strange ending to the game, penalty Bayern for a stupid handball in the last minute, Augsburg's coach starts complaining and gets send off by the referee, as if that penalty did matter at all, Müller scores, 3-0.

Oh dear, Dortmund simply cannot lose more points if they want to keep up with Bayern. Tough CL games to come too.

Bayern set a new record with 37 consecutive unbeaten games in the league today.

That says a lot of the quality of the 1.Bundesliga.

Bayern Munich are amazing.
Dortmund are very good.
Leverkusen are good.
Schalke is okay.

The rest.....so shit.
Bayern won 9 consecutive CL games so far this year (which is also a record), including away games at City, Juve and Barca . How would you call those teams? They really didn't look any better than the average Bundesliga teams in those games.

Apparently Subotic tore his acl.

Was reading some article about Derrick Rose yesterday and when I noticed today that Subotić is holding is knee I got scared that he's got the same kind of injury. Sucks for the lad, he'll be out for bloody long time.

Subotic will miss the rest of the season. Huge blow for Dortmund although Sokratis is a good replacement - rate him.

On another note, Wolfsburg's Maximilian Arnold is a big, big talent.

Dortmund really need to spend some money in the winter. Is Kehl fit again? So that Bender could fill in at centerback, if necessary?

Well given that Kehl will most likely go/retire at the end of the season Dortmund might be looking for a player who can play both CB and DM in the winter, so that he can replace Subotic for the rest of the season and then take Kehls's spot in the following. On the other hand Sarr has shown a lot of potential in pretty much any friendly he played during the last two preseasons and I wouldn't put it past Klopp to rely on him.

Btw: iirc Klopp chose Bender to play CB over Kehl in the past.

Many of those 'so shit' teams did a lot better than City against Bayern.

Bayern is currently the Über-Mannschaft not only in Germany, but also in Europe/the rest of the world. Dortmunds first eleven is not far behind it. What is actually surprising is not that they are dominating the league, what is surprising is that teams like Leverkusen or Wolfsburg can somewhat keep contact.
The "rest" ain't "shit", they are just not yet good enough.
But i agree, the Bundesliga is not (yet?!) up there with the best leagues. Which is fun too, so low-budget-teams like Freiburg, Augsburg, Mainz or Gladbach can play with the big boys, and freshly promoted teams like Hertha can act as surprises. Currently, there are 4 Points between Bayern and the rest, but only 8 points between #18 and #8...

But if you had watched matches like Bayern-Hertha or Bayern-Freiburg, you would have seen that the Buli is at least up there with the best in terms of tactics. What those teams lack is financial muscle to maintain and develop individual talent.

Sean_RedDevil's comment about Bayern's record saying anything about the league is bullshit anyway. Arsenal's invincibles were 49 league games unbeaten, that's still a long way to go for Bayern, they haven't even managed a full English season of 38 games yet. And that Arsenal team was nowhere near as good as Bayern is today and failed to achieve anything in Europe, but no one would think that there impressive unbeaten run "said a lot about the quality in the Premier League", which would of course be equally wrong.

Very harsh.

Very harsh.
If we take their CL performances into account? Don't think so, they were really strong in the league, without doubt, but failed to go past a single top team in Europe in the 2 seasons in which they set that league record, let alone dominate some of the best teams in Europe home and away.

Yeah they underperformed in Europe but they had a great team and would have given Bayern more than a close game.

They went out against a decent but far from great Bayern side in 03/04 that was easily 2 or 3 levels below the team we see today. Of course in a one off game in which they played at their peak, they could have given anyone a game. But what they showed in Europe during that time certainly wasn't good enough.

It does not matter what they would do on paper. I reality they failed to make any mark in Europe while Bayern beat someone like Barca home and away.

I actually liked that Arsenal team a lot and thought they were great, btw. That's why I used them as an example to show that a great unbeaten run doesn't mean the league is shit, I'd say the premier league was already the best league in Europe at that time, it means even less if the same team is setting records in Europe at the same time.

Bayern won their 9th consecutive CL game this week, only Barca in 02/03 managed that before and we can break that record away at CSKA in 3 weeks with a 10th win. Barca did it in one season with 6 wins in the first group stage and 3 wins in the second, while we did it over two seasons in one calender year with 5 of those wins in the quarter, semi finals and in the final.

Barca back then beat Lokomotiv Moscow, Brugge, Galatasaray twice, then Leverkusen away, followed by Newcastle and Inter at home before drawing at Inter. Their goal difference in those 9 games was 21:6.

Bayern beat Juve and Barca in the knockoutstages, Dortmund in the final, then CSKA at home, City away and Plzen twice with an overall goal difference of 25:2. Still can't believe we only conceded 2 goals. We also won 5 consecutive away games (Arsenal, Juve, Barca, City, Plzen).

That's one hell of a run against teams that really are difficult to beat, I just don't get why someone would belittle a domestic record by that team with calling the league shit, that doesn't make sense at all.

Schweinsteiger out for the rest of the calendar year. His ankle injury was not properly sorted out in the summer. How good has he been this year Balu? He was the best midfielder in Europe for me last season and he and Martinez were a great team.

He already struggled with his ankle last season, played with pain most of the time. He had surgery in the summer, was in and out the team for a few weeks at the beginning of this season, but never looked fully fit. It also looked like he never found his perfect position in our new system, most expected him to become our deep lying defensive midfielder, the role Lahm played so brilliantly in the last weeks. Guardiola said yesterday, that he's thankful that he played through the pain for weeks because all our midfielders were out with injuries, which probably explains his problems. Martinez started his first game last week, Thiago is in training again, so it's probably best that Schweinsteiger takes care of it now and hopefully he's back with the team for the trainings camp in January.

feck off to my set top box service providers for banning the channel that's showing this :(

So many injuries, completely reserve defence for Dortmund pretty much. Should be a good game regardless. Come on BvB

Both teams lack creativity today, wouldn't be surprised if it's a very underwhelming game, Bayern will have lots of useless possession without creating many dangerous chances, Dortmund will try to be effective and score with the few counterattacks they get. I doubt we'll see anything comparable to the CL final, both teams today are clearly weaker than they were back then because of a crazy number of injured players.

So Bayern have purchased Neuer and Goetze, and will buy Lewandowski next season...anyone else from Dortmund on their books?

I'm gonna guess the joke 'Borussia Bayern' has been thrown around...

Neuer wasn't bought off Dortmund though.
