Tottenham Hotspur vs. Manchester United

I will wager my spray on St Tropez fake bake and half a jar of Hair gel Spurs wont lose tomorrow!

Even if we lose we can still win the League. I think City and Chelsea are our main contenders for the title even though LFC have an advantage only having the League and maybe the odd FA-cup match to play. We have been in worse situations before and still won it and if we continue to play like against Leverkusen there will be no stopping us.

To be fair if you lost and Arsenal won I cant see you making up a 10 point gap up such are the respective teams performances in the league so far. It is a big game for United because of this, especially as we and City are at home, even though Soton will be tough for us.

I had a dream spurs won 6-0 so I'm going to put a couple of quid on at 500/1 just to make sure it doesn't happen.

nah..10 points is not prohibitive at this stage. what matters is form. We have been improving....Cardiff match showed we are too dependent on a few players.

Having said that, I expect us to win.

If form is what matters surely that's worse? Arsenals form is excellent.

He has made two mistakes.....he was lucky that Leverkusen were shit.

He was bad against Cardiff too.

And he was bad in 3-4 other games this season too.

I love Rio......one of my favourite players......but his time is over.

True that, him and Evra seem a bit of liability for you now, much like our Terry at times. It's time for the new group to take over.

Don't agree about Evra but it's definitely looking that way for Rio. Based on what we've seen so far this season he's having his 'realising it's time to go' moment. And with three such capable understudies, I don't see him getting much game time if that creaking form continues.

Looking forward to Sunday. Can't be any worse than Spurs away last year, that's for sure.

Key for United is to start well. Hit them with a goal early doors and we should be fine. They will come out firing after last weeks result so it's vital that we start well and put them under pressure. Confidence wise they look very shaky. Allow them to play at a higher tempo early on and the whole complexion changes for me. Play like we did Tuesday and I have no doubts that we will come home with the three points.

To win at Leverkusen and Spurs in the space of a week would be a massive boost for us. As I say, looking forward to it.

Agreed. I don't like the line of Moyes has now arrived etc, we have heard it on a few occasions this season but I think this could kick start every thing. We can't get any worse from previous weeks so I think a positive performance and win here will really remind teams that we are still Manchester United and we are not out of the title race at all.

I don't expect there to ever be a 'moment' when Moyes 'arrives.' I think we'll just gradually get better and more consistent. Remember that criticism of 'on-off form' at United always survives longer than the actual form. So even if there was some kind of turning point, the first time we dropped points after it the media would be claiming that Moyes 'still hasn't found his feet at United despite false dawn' etc.

All you can hope for is that each new spell of good form lasts longer and is more impressive than the last. Beating Spurs would make the Cardiff result look more like a slip-up (surrounded as it would be by good wins against league-leading Arsenal, Leverkusen and Spurs) and less like a symptom of inconsistent form.

I'm unsure about tmrw I watched the Spurs City game and thought Spurs looked good in general but goals change games and Llrois decided to have a howler. But the Spurs midfield looked good I hope Demble is on the bench and its the 2 Brazilians vs Giggs and Jones and Cleverley is nowhere near the starting 11.

giggs playing 90 minutes in midweek meaning he is unlikely to start here. however with carrick unavailable i think giggs-jones is our current best CM choice. not sure of cleverley's form at this moment and fellaini is just not up to it in midfield for us.

My main worry for United is in midfield. As I said yesterday, the opening 25 will be crucial for me. Mentally Spurs aren't quite there for me at present. They will want to prove to prove a point after last weeks display but likewise, if we score early I think we will win comfortably. From memory, Moyes always did pretty well against Spurs whilst at Everton. Defensively solid and generally picked up results from it. I'd look to play a similar game to the one Newcastle played a few weeks back.

We've been hit and miss this season though but again, a win tomorrow would be huge for us confidence wise.

Spurs utterly dominated possession but they were completely toothless with it. When Dembele came on he changed that, although it was too late for the game, and if he starts I don't expect our back four to get as easy a ride as City's did. As for the possession issue, I'd be wary of us giving up as much as City did, since we can't rely on having as good a day in front of goal as City, especially with RVP out.

However, letting Spurs have a decent amount of the ball might be the way to go. It was City's counter-attacking that nailed Spurs, and it was ours that nailed Leverkusen, so that's an approach we should look to exploit. Plus the more of the ball Spurs have these days, the slower their build-up play, and that slow build-up makes them really struggle to produce a threat to the opposition's goal.

He was poor against Leverkusen, but he certainly wasn't "bad" against Cardiff. Smalling, Evans, and Ferdinand were defensively very good in that game.

I'd go with that. I've read a fair few comments from Spurs fans since I arrived back from Leverkusen, and the majority of them are concerned about tomorrow. Newcastle and City are perfect example of how to play them. I'd certainly expect Spurs to dominate possession tomorrow, but they look as though they couldn't score if they were the only team on the park at present. Defensively we need to be solid though. If we play the counter attacking game we did in midweek tomorrow we will be fine.

I honestly think a win tomorrow could be a turning point in our season. The confidence gained from two away wins in a week against Leverkusen and Spurs would be huge, as I said earlier.

Spurs have been dogshite this season - failure to win will be a big blow to us. I don't think we'll get more than a point.

I'll be disappointed if we set-up really defensive. Hoping that two of Januzaj, Valencia and Nani start.

in my opinion we'll know this time next week if this united team can challenge for the title this season. we've only beaten a team in the top half once this season, and play the three teams around us in the next 6 days. 9 points will put us right in contention, 7 a distant chance and anything less i think would be too many dropped points too soon and more importantly would show that this team simply cant grind out results they did under ferguson and the best aim for the season would be to start figuring ourselves out to come back stronger net year.

it might seem dramatic to say that but this week is huge. we could potentially be 2nd or 3rd on saturday evening, or could be 9th with an even bigger gap to close.

Id go

De Gea

Rafael (where is he?)
Vidc
Evans
Evra

Jones
Fellaini

Valencia
Rooney
Januzaj

van Persie

Need to really take the game to a very poor tottenham, if we stand off and play the rubbish weve seen in some games this season it could well allow them to have a turning point in their season. a win and suddenly our own perspective changes having beaten arsenal, tottenham and leverkusen in what was a must win game. come on united.

1-3, rooney x2 van persie

This is exactly right. Feels like that nightmare run earlier in the year when we were saying two draws and win or above would do us good - and we lost 2 and drew one. Big test for Moyes and the squad. Can't say I'm optimistic given our general performances against quality opposition this year.

Still fingers crossed Moyes has sussed the team out, and will take us through it.

Only silver lining is if he doesn't, we surely HAVE to bring in some talent in January. I never expected us to win the league this year, but outside the top 4 would be a disaster.

Rafael and Vidic into the defence, someone in for Giggsy, not sure who out of Cleverley and Fellaini, and the rest the same as midweek. VP on the bench if he's properly right.

If we can get through tomorrow and be 7points behind Arsenal, and still 3 behind 2 we've got to be very pleased indeed.
We need to get these points on the board in preparation for Arsenal having a couple of very hard Christmas games.

The silly points we've dropped, we could really be amongst them right now. We have to stop that.

i agree, i'll be quite relaxed about not winning the league so long as we remain in contention and give a good challenge while also seeing steps towards are more fluid type of play throughout the year. a good addition in january would be a step in the right direction, followed by a big signing next summer.
