Good Craig got his c'nuppins
I've made my mind up about him already.
He was decent. I don't know if we can attribute it to a step up or him just being up for it while facing his former club.
Was he decent decent... Or was he decent in comparison to what we've seen from him so far.
At half time, I realised the scale I was judging him on was definitely the latter.

In comparison to what I've seen from him so far and yes the bar is very low. Its still not the kind of performance that fills me with any hope that he can be the dominating midfielder that we badly need or that his price tag warrants, but its unfair to criticize him tonight because we was alright.
It's funny that some are saying he's not good enough for us when players who've been here for years are playing worse than he is.
Yeah, I thought he was better than most of what we've seen from him thus far, but still not really up to any real sort of standard as a United midfielder. He seems to play within himself much more than he did at Everton, plus his lack of mobility doesn't help (though on that point, and it may be a daft shout, but did the smaller pitch at Everton help him in that regard?)
Just saw the goal back. Didn't realise at the time it was him that put up that limp attempt to stop Lakaku's cross for the goal.
He's such a soft twat. For man of his size he's absolutely pathetic when it comes to getting stuck in. That cowards challenge on Mccarthy was disgusting too.
I would genuinely give Fellaini, Young and Valencia away for free, at a massive loss, just to take the potential temptation to pick them away from the manager.
thought he had a very good first half - his passing was a lot more positive than it has been and got in a few tackles/interceptions. Wasnt as good 2nd half, Giggs seemed to run out of steam (unsuprisingly) so he had to push on a bit more.
Im baffled that people cant see that he is slowly settling in and improving with each game.
He was behind the play the entire first half.
Playing a couple of decent passes to Giggs isn't really anything to get excited about.
The difference in performance compared to CB Phil Jones is embarassing.

He was playing a defensive role, and he was pretty good in it. His job isn't to do a Scholes-esque job by spraying balls left, right and centre but rather to sweep up ahead of the back four and get in players' faces. Granted he got knocked off by Barkley once or twice, but I remember Vidic being bulldozed several times by Lukaku and once by Barkley (I think) and didn't hear a peep about that. I will reiterate again: his game isn't about making beautiful passes, he was acting like a DM. Yet this forum try and find one fault to make it seem like he was shit today, when he was actually one of our better players. Doesn't mean I am ecstatic about his performance or think that he's the perfect man for the job, but give someone, a team member of United for Christ's sake, a little bit of credit where due

I have no idea what you are on about with the 'behind the play' comment.
this was his best game on passing - both in terms of accuracy (93%) and also playing positively as he has been too safe previously.
Jones is a midfield terrier, all about his engine - Fellaini is nothing like that. I'd actually like to see them paired together on the weekend.
That piece of play for their goal angers me so much.

I'm confused - some of you are claiming he's a pure defensive midfielder (which he does poorly) and some of you are claiming he's noting like a midfield terrier and talks about his passing as a strong point (which is neat, decent but come on, so is Cleverley's and he's slated on here).
Which is it?
DM is actually a vague term to be fair - there are very different types of players included in that bracket, but I would largely split them into 2 types: the destroyer/bruiser/bulldog type and the holding/screening/quarterback type
Carrick is clearly the latter, Jones the former, and Id say Fellaini somewhere in between as a DM all rounder (passes better than Jones, gets stuck in more than Carrick).
He doesn't get any credit from me.
He was playing a defensive role? How come Everton walked though us like nothing and you still claim he had a good match? Because he wrestled a couple of balls in their half of Barkley in the first half?
He was playing a defensive role, and didn't bother doing a basic defensive job when Everton scored - effectively costing us the game.
THEN we can start talking about his offensive contribution - which was slim to nothing, as you'd expect.
He wasn't acting like a DM as you claim, because he wasn't particularly bothered doing any actual defending. In fact he shies away from it and prefers coward's challenges to going in fair and hard and actually winning the ball.
The thing is, he doesn't. He's an absolute coward.
Fellaini had the most tackles of anyone on the pitch today, plus a few interceptions and clearances.

That doesn't mean he gets stuck in more then Carrick.
Carrick is not the type of player to get stuck in - he relies on outstanding reading of the game and is more likely to intercept than tackle.
Carrick makes plenty of tackles though. Its a very underrated part of his game.
