La Liga 2013-2014

Both Barça and RM have drawn away to Osasuna now this season. Always tough in Pamplona.

Very true but much easier to say there's no competition or quality in the Primera apart from the top few sides

Ironically enough, this is the poorest Osasuna have been in the last few seasons IMO and neither of the big two looked very convincing against them. Two big games coming up then, which on their current form Barça and Atlético should be able to win, but ought to definitely prove challenging: Barça-Villarreal, where home advantage should see the former through as jojojo already opined, but a draw certainly doesn't look out of the question (although Alexis has certainly asserted himself in Messi's absence), and Atléti taking on Valencia tomorrow at the Calderón (and no Riccy Costa there to score their goals :D)....

What did you make of the penalty decision Skorenzy?

Extremely harsh, don't think it should've been given. The defender was trying to move his arm out of the way (into his body) IMO.

Neymar with a tap-in... he's done nothing impressive all game, but 2 goals nonetheless.

Agreed.

Barca unsurprisingly look more fluent going forward since Xavi's introduction.

I thought his first half was pretty average. He got stoned 2 or 3 times by Mario and looked a bit less confident taking him on. Came alive in the 2nd half by drifting inside rather than trying to beat him on the flank. Enjoyed his performance. Tough 3 pts, thought Barcelona should've/could've played better - there were lapses in concentration...until Xavi came on. Thought Cesc was more anonymous than anyone else, apart from that great ball on Neymar's goal, skillfully assisted by Alexis. I saw flashes of how good they can still get, on a more consistent basis, but they're not there yet

I had forgotten how good Aquino is although I felt he was a little intimidated by the occasion or his opponents - Maybe Pereira would've been smarter, sooner by Marcelino

I'd say his performance as a whole didn't really warrant two goals, but he was indeed incredibly menacing in the final quarter of the game, when (with Xavi on the pitch) Barça had better control and Villarreal left loads of space behind their defense as they were desperately pushing for an equalizer. He exploited that magnificently. That one (first-time?) through ball for Pedro was absolutely sublime and once again an indication that he has a far above average eye for a pass.

Too bad Villarreal were without their most controlling player and their most creative player, Bruno Soriano and Cani respectively, who've both been instrumental in the club's resurgence. Consequently, they never really looked like scoring from open play, save for some actions from Gio and Aquino. Once again impressed by Musacchio, who's still only 23yo. Can't believe nobody tried to pick him up when they went down to Segunda OR that he hasn't collected more caps for Arg already. Speaking of defenders, Bartra was looking extremely confident, very astute in getting the ball out from the back. Fairly imperious display I'd say (even if he was a fraction late in covering his man for the goal).

Looking forward to tomorrow's games, esp. Sevilla-Athletic and Atléti-Valencia, should both be eventful.

Loved the banner at Camp Nou reminding Sabella that Musacchio is actually Argentinean. Yeah the trip to El Madrigal will be no picnic but then we should have another certain Argentine back too

The marking on set pieces is always a problem. Bartra first caught my eye as a RB in the youth ranks and particularly for how great he was going forward. His overall game is still developing but I think he's a long-term solution at CB. Still think Tata needs to buy another one - seems the rumours of Puyol's imminent retirement are even covered by MD

Anyone know why Rakitic isn't in the squad for Sevilla?
Injury? Rested?

There is something wrong with Sevilla's defensive midfielders over last few years.

Another good, whilst not overly spectacular, game for Ander Herrera. Very involved and yet again made the most passes for Athletic Club despite playing in a more advanced position. He's a little fighter and works hard as well as being good on the ball. Had one nice move where he won the ball back deep in their half and sprinted up the pitch to set them off on a counter in the end susaeta's shot was deflected out for a corner. He's got character.

Parejo

Someone should gif that, it was really funny how he was running away from Diego Costa like Costa was going to kill him.

Costa is up there on the cnut stakes too in fairness but that was needless  Atletico struggling to get going so far.

That was one hell of a cagey first half, understandable given Valencia's current predicament.

Did the commentator on Sevilla-Bilbao say we had people watching Moreno and Herrera?

Not really, keeper probably should have saved that, and the defender didn't even try to tackle him in the end.

Shocking keeping.

Yeah, Diego Alves is an excellent shot-stopper generally, but he should've done better there, although it looked like it took a little deflection off a defender and from that distance and the power on the shot it's quite hard for keepers to get down in time.

Well, the run itself was very strong and tricky near the end, if the defender had attempted a tackle there it would most likely have resulted in a pen.

2-0! Raúl García. Man in form. Always has a nack for spectacular goals. Atléti tearing it up now, they might top the table if this continues, think they need a 4-0 win to top it on GD.
