Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur

I'm pretty sure Moyes doesn't know Fabio exists.

Maybe he hasn't really made any progress...

He has a different career at United than Rafael, we can't say he's exactly as good as his twin brother, some people can't see that. He was loaned out to QPR where he didn't really impress, he has had to compete with Evra who's one of those players able to play every game.

It would change any player. Yes, even the one thought to be better than his twin brother.

Jan 1 Manchester United v Tottenham Hotspur Old Trafford Premier League
Jan 5 Manchester United v Swansea City Old Trafford FA Cup (Round 3)
Jan 7 Sunderland v Manchester United Stadium of Light Capital One Cup (Semi-finals)
Jan 11 Manchester United v Swansea City Old Trafford Premier League
Jan 19 Chelsea v Manchester United Stamford Bridge Premier League
Jan 22 Manchester United v Sunderland Old Trafford Capital One Cup (Semi-finals)
Jan 28 Manchester United v Cardiff City Old Trafford Premier League

I expect Van Persie to be back against Swansea in Premiership match...or perhaps just a sub appearance v Sunderland. Think Rooney will play v Spurs and only be played v Sunderland in the semi final.
Add to that the fact that we have played 9 games in December. We really need our injured players returning ready to contribute because we will need to use the full squad in the coming fixtures, particularly the cups. We have Carrick and Fletcher still to build up to full match fitness. RvP, Rooney, Rafael, Jones and Nani, all to return from injury at some point in the next few weeks and Valencia is available from his suspension. I'm hopeful for January. 4 of the 6 games are at OT which negates some travelling but has hardly been a fortress of late. We need to get that back.

He must be utter shit in training to not even be getting minutes at either fullback spot despite our right back slot up for grabs when Rafael is out.

It seems so. And not being able to win the battle with Valencia and Smalling says it all really. But there are some posters who are going to say "but... but he started the Champions league final at right-back!". Aye, 30 months ago.

We rode our luck at times at Hull and Norwich.....

Lets have a good win against Spurs

My Team: De Gea, Smalling, Vidic, Evans, Evra, Valencia, Carrick, Fletcher, Januzaj, Rooney, Welbeck

good that Valencia, Januzaj, Rooney and Fletcher didn't play vrs Norwich and Welbeck only played 45 mins

our fixture list is awful.....4 games in 11 days?! Hopefully we can get Jones, Nani, RVP, Rafael to play a part in these

Tough run there given how tight that first two week period is. Will depend on who stays fit but could see us resting some of the key players in the first leg of the league cup and going for a draw and then going for the win in the home leg. If that works out for us then should be ok. Fortunately we've got a fair few home games in that period.

Will be interesting to see who lines up in the middle for us, Clev will have had 3 days to properly rest up, but Fletch should be fresh, I can't see Giggs starting after being subbed against Hull so early. Would be a big bonus to have at least one of rafael, jones and rvp back and hopefully Carrick being a bit sharper.

At home I fancy us to sneak it. 4-0.

Yes, fans refuse to put emotional values aside and accept a player might not work out. The same people thought John Rooney would turn out to be a similar player as Wayne.

I'm always slightly confused why people spend so long arguing about Fabio. His last 2 years, he's barely had a look in with us and wasn't good at QPR.
He'll never keep Rafael or Evra out. We're obviously looking for a new top end left back, so to argue about a 2nd choice full back seems a pointless argument!

Well I mean it's a fair point that he hasn't progressed much in the last two seasons, mainly through injuries I'd say, I think it's just surprising though that he's been so frozen out when even Buttner can get a game. I mean the two appearances Fabio has had, he certainly hasn't done anything wrong, just seems odd that we'd rather risk burning Evra out/ use a clearly below par player in Buttner over him, even if he isn't in the long term plans. I mean fair play Moyes might want the full backs to overlap and with fabio being right footed he might not be ideal there, but am sure we could have gotten through some games with him playing left and have Evra a lot fresher.

I imagine Young will start on the left to help Evra with Walker and Lennon. Valencia will start on the right as he's a favourite workhorse and hopefully it will be Rooney and Welbeck up top.

Carrick has to start but I am not sure who will play next to him given people were saying Cleverley looked tired against Norwich. I expect the back 4 to be the same as in the last game.

The reason people spend so much time debating over Fábio is that even if he hasn't reached his potential or developed as much as his brother, he's still got to be better than Buttner who was continually picked over him. It's not about Fábio starting games, it's about him being on the bench over Buttner, or playing instead of Buttner when Evra is rested. Maybe the majority are wrong, but it seems to have taken Moyes a good four months to realise Buttner is not up to the United standard when everyone has been saying this since we signed him.

This is still what I expect to see against Spurs:

de Gea
Smalling Vidic Evans Evra
Carrick Fletcher
Valencia Rooney Januzaj
Welbeck
--
Lindegaard; Fabio; Cleverley, Giggs, Young, Kagawa; Hernandez

Hopefully van Persie or Jones can be on the bench, but I think Rafael is likely to be out for a little while. Really hoping Rooney is back and starts, sub him off if he's not fully fit, this is the game we need him for most in January other than Chelsea away, but he can have a rest in-between.

As far as I'm concerned, Fabio has shown Moyes some kind of desire to leave the club. There's no other explanation as to why Moyes would leave him out for a left back that can't defend for his life. Either that, or he's been worse than Buttner in training, which is difficult to believe.

7 games in January, only 2 away from home thankfully and they are Sunderland and Chelsea so not much travel at least.

we needs Jones back ASAP. He has been amazing for us.

I agree - I know people will laugh and point at me and maybe even call me nasty names but his engine and box to box running as well as tough tackling and never say die attitude reminds me a little of a young Roy Keane

Just to clarify I am not saying Jones is the 'new Roy Keane'.....

It is a little baffling. The only other explanation I can think of is that Moyes is one of those managers who sees it as non-negotiable to play a left-footer at LB and a right-footer at RB.

Based on Evra's last five games (and this is coming from someone who's been a staunch defender of his on here), Fabio would definitely be able to keep him out. He's not only been as poor as I can remember in his defensive duties, but he wasn't the useful attacking outlet that we've become used to either. Fabio was superb in his run-outs in pre-season and he was really good against Palace in his only proper game this season - most people on here were mentioning that he basically looked as good as Rafael generally does.

I think Young is starting to gear up a bit. He's been shit for a long time but finally he's starting to get a bit of consistency to his game and perhaps he will justify the 17m we once paid for him. There was a time when he actually was pretty good at sending balls into the box. He's getting past defenders with that silly stop-fast touch to the side STOP and run move. He just need to get the delivery right.

Or Moyes simply doesn't regard him as a left back. Whether that makes sense is up for debate. But it's not necessarily the case that Moyes thinks Büttner is a better player than Fabio. Just a more suited one for that particular role. At any rate I think we need to get over this one. It's going to take a miracle for Fabio to start a match of importance for us in the foreseeable future - so there really isn't any point in getting worked up about it, as some people continue to do.

I'm expecting Rooney to be fit. He almost always seems to recover in the minimum suggested time. Not expecting RVP to play, since Moyes always seems to give players a game on the bench post-injury before they get a start. Also I think he'll reward Danny with another start.

Something like this would be good:

DDG
***Smalling* Evans Vidic Buttner**
**Carrick Fletcher***
Valencia Rooney Januzaj
Welbeck
*Rafa if fit obviously.
**I know this will never happen, and I know Buttner is not popular on here, but honestly any half-competent LB would have done a better job than Evra's against Norwich, and he has to be held accountable for a string of awful performances somehow. Fabio would be my first choice, but obviously he's Not Allowed. I'd even play Evans/Jones out of position there rather than let Evra get another start. He got torn apart by Snodgrass, ffs - imagine him against his nemesis Lennon.
***I've been very pleased with Tom over the last four or five games, but we need to be careful not to overplay him. Carrick's not back to full mobility yet, that was obvious against Norwich, and Cleverley had to do a huge amount of work trying to cover for that. Fletcher looked good against Hull, so give him the start.

Lennon's out, I think. So that's a good thing. I'm worried about Evra, though. It'll be three games now in the space of less than a week - and he looked knackered enough the other day. Still, I think he needs to play. If Rafael is out, I'd go:

DDG
Valencia - Smalling* - Evans - Evra
Carrick - Cleverley
Young - Rooney - Januzaj
Welbeck
Fletcher to replace Cleverley round the sixty minute mark, Chicharito on for the last fifteen to score our third in a 3-1 victory.
* Not sure about this one, but I don't know if Vidic is up for two on the trot. If he's fully rested and fit he should start, though.

A win here will give us massive momentum for January. We have a few games, but we need momentum to face Chelsea away.

Lennon's out, I think. So that's a good thing. ....

Lennon isn't out. He played and scored yesterday.

I think the Spurs team will be lined up in a 4-4-2 as follows:

---------------- Lloris
Walker - Dawson - Chiriches - Rose
Lennon - Paulinho - Dembele - Eriksen
----------- Soldado - Adebayor

Games between Spurs and United are usually very open, but this one will be even more so ... both because I expect Sherwood to continue with his emphasis on attack and basically aim to score more goals than you do, and also because I expect him to play without a recognised DM (this assumes that Paulinho will be fit, despite coming off with an injury yesterday).

Eriksen will only play nominally on the left, so at any given time Paulinho, Dembele and Eriksen might be found mostly in almost any position in CM, defensive or attacking. This will give you greater scope for attacking down our left flank, but will also increase the attacking pressure from Spurs on your back four.

I think that both back fours will come under a lot more pressure than usual: ours because of not playing with a recognised DM and offering a weakened left flank, yours because it will have two strikers to cope with, supported by a very attacking central midfield.

Since RVP signed...he's appeared in every game I've been to. I'm going to this so he's playing.

Yay! Good enough for me! Need three more points here deffo. A bit worried that Spurs have been winning since AVB left, but we should be winning this at home anyway. 2-1 would do.....plus Liverpool to draw at home.

Sod to playing conservatively, have a right pop at them from the off as we can definitely score against them. Let's hope Evra has a better game than recently.
Carrack and Valencia back will be a good boost. Stop them scoring and we will win, no worries, as they will concede.
Come on Moyes.......

It's bit of a 6 pointer. Who would have thought we would be having one of these against Spurs in January at the start of the season.
