Without Mentioning Moyes... How Do We Turn This Around?

ditch 4-4-2 with the 2 wingers. Play Fletcher, Carrick and Jones in a 3 man midfield. Play 3 of Rooney, Welbeck, RVP, Januzaj and Kagawa in a fluid attack. This is assuming all our players were fit.

Fletcher-Carrick
Januzaj-rooney-kagawa
-welbeck-

feck off the constant crossing and play football

Bring in some one touch footballers. Currently, we have two and a half - Carrick, RVP and the good version of Giggs (and apparently Kagawa, though I'm yet to see it)... everyone else either wants or needs (generally the latter) more than that on the ball and it consistantly slows down our entire play and generally leads to the break down of moves. Our one touch football at the moment is atrocious - probably the worst I can remember - and I think it costs us quite a bit in open play (can you envisage this version of United doing a sweeping counter attacking move?).

Failing not being able to sign anyone - I would make Carrick and Fletcher/Jones our midfield pairing and play them in every big game and tell them to sit deep. I would play a combination of RVP, Rooney, Kagawa and Nani in front of them and basically tell them they are responsible for our entire attack - along with one of Rafael and Evra. When they're not fit, bring in Welbeck, Hernandez, Zaha (give the lad an actual, proper, chance) Young, Valencia.

It's starting to feel like he's just not sure how to play any other way

Actually do none of that - because I'm not a Premiership manager - just get everyone, from the manager, to the players, to the staff, to the tea lady to stop fecking about and man-up.

Okay, I think I have actually worked it out. I've completely solved our problem.

We stop using Januzaj. Not to use him at all. Completely cold turkey. We have 10 scared players every game and they are all waiting for Januzaj to get them out of the hole they are in. 10 scared players and one 18 year old who actually takes players on, makes runs and shoots from distance. Well the other 10 players need to grow the feck up.

He's 18. He cant save our season, and they shouldn't be expecting him too. At most he should be coming on for half an hour each game, when we are already winning (so he'd be getting no minutes at the moment then.) Keane wouldn't let this happen. Robson wouldn't let this happen.

Let us play with 11 scared players, and hopefully they'll learn that a young kid isn't going to save them. Play ridiculously shite and defensively if we need to, but live and die together as brothers.

7 days into 2014, and we have lost 3 times. Speechless. I'm all for giving Moyes time to build his own team, but this is really getting worrying.

Too right. Can you see Cantona crying because things aren't going well? Ruud? Keane? Robson? Schmeichel? Sir Alex?

Oh I get it.... and it makes me feel even worse :(

Encase Fergie in carbonite and hang him on the dressing room door.

Get our main strikers back from injury.

It is actually ridiculous. I'm worried we'll burn him out how much we've been using him. He's basically playing the majority of every game because he's the only one in our midfield or attack, along with Rooney, who is willing to try things and attack players and run with the ball. Shocking for a team of our standards that we don't actually have anyone who we can start in place of an 18 year old who made his debut a few months ago.

Drop all underperforming players, play the youth team. I'll rather watch us lose matches than watch a bunch of lumbering overpaid millionaires take a stroll on the pitch like they've just done their nails.

My wife summed it up well, she hates football by the way.
She said "it looks like they don't care" I'm starting to agree.

They don't care is such utter bullshit, I can't believe anybody thinks anything like that.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is the old and the new testament of all top reds.

Competent manager.

It's not a question that can be answered with the rules you've given us.
Hire a motivational speaker

Let the players go on a team building weekend.

First they get dropped at the bottom of a hill/mountain. They then have to hike up to a per-determined campsite. The boys will have loads of fun and create some great memories trying to put up tents and start a fire. After they've done that they can do the first day's activity, paintballing in the forest. It'll give them a sense of unity, and hopefully make them realise that the flanks aren't the only option of attack. At the end of the day they can sit around the fire and listen to Giggs tell tales of the glory days, whilst they all eat roast marshmallows. On the second day they can do one of those high rope/leap of faith things, except instead of jumping off a pole and trying to touch a flag or something, they have to try and high-five David Moyes. The warm feeling from successfully completing a high-five, coupled with the adrenaline rush from jumping off something high will help the players build a relationship with the new manager. Once they've done that they all have to stand in a line, then one by one, Moyes will go behind them and they have to fall backwards into his arms. This will help them build a sense of trust with David, and they'll realise that he is always there for them. After all of this fun, they'll get to create even more fun memories as they try and take down the tents, remembering to clear up any litter they may have lying around, and hike back down to the coach to go home. All in all it'll be good fun and they'll all get along better as a result.

if at the start of February we had the possibility of lining up as follows for the rest of the season:

De Gea

Rafael
Vidic
Jones
Coentrao

Carricki
Cabaye

Januzaj
Rooney
Nani

van Persie

then we'd be better off for it. would certainly get top 4. then take from there in the summer. about 4 out and 4 in.

Trust excercises - like falling backwards into someones arms and shit like that. Nobody pairs with Valencia.

Actually it looks like we need some fecking ice breakers with the way our team play at the minute.

Make a porno called Gay-vid Toyes to show they are behind the manager (literally).

Have you read my post? Stealing my fecking ideas...

A match fit Michael Carrick should solve a lot of ills, unfortunately that's probably another week or so away as he gets up to speed.

got to ditch the 4-4-2 formation. doesn't work anymore, for now at least.

no point of playing valencia on the right as he doesn't contribute much apart from blasting the ball into his marker's leg. need to play two attacking fullbacks, meaning rafael on the right and we have to bring in someone at left back to rotate with evra. evra still got it at times but he desperately need rest now. to bring in someone quality and being able to rotate should help the team.

have to be a midfield 3. we got no keane-scholes in their prime anymore to play with 2 CM all the time. carrick and jones are certain starters if available.

front 3 must be attacking fluid players, i would like to see a bit more of interchanging between them.

--------------------------de gea---------------------------
rafael---------smalling/vidic---------evans--------evra/coentrao possibly?
--------------carrick--------------jones-------------------
---------------------januzaj/kagawa-----------------------
------------welbeck-------van persie------rooney-----------

problem here could be that when opposition are attacking, we might be lacking bodies to protect the fullbacks.

When/if we sign a very good, creative midfielder, even just one, it will be ridiculous how much of a difference it will make to our team. We'll all realise, if we haven't already, just how poor it's been the last few years.

A squad revamp could do us good, I don't mind anybody leaving except for:

DDG
Rafael
Evans
Jones
Smalling
Januzaj
Rooney

The rest I could live without.

We have a title winning squad so in the short term, there is a little tinkering. But at a structural level:

1) Bring a 'super-coach' in for the short term ala Chelski to give the squad a boost and a kick up the bum
2) Appoint a Director of Football but call it something else as the title has been tainted in the UK unlike on the Continent. VP of Technical Operations or something.
3) Play a few more kids including Zaha to wake up a few of the senior players especially if Moyes has a 6yrs contract, surely has has the latitude to 'experiment'?

The manager needs to run through the dressing room with a chainsaw, ruthlessly excising the deadwood from the squad.

Some of the older players need to step up, like noodle's thread suggested it seems a lot of them are content to just cost along right now. Vidic, Rooney, RvP, Carrick, and Evra all need to start stepping up. I know some of them have been injured but when they get back we absolutely need them to lead by example and show some desire and get the belief back in the team.

Will I live to see a different formation out there. So outdated this 4-4-2 or whatever variation of it we kept on playing.
4-2-3-1 . two holding midfielders please. We don't have the personnel to play two in the middle
