Liverpool

You're comparing Man. Utd's spending power over Liverpool, to Liverpool's spending power over Everton .... is that a fair comparison?

You also say, "eventually the gap in spending and wages will show". Well, "eventually" can end up being a long time away: you've already spent £82m NET on additions to the squad that won the title last season, but have declined massively.

Eventually it will show. Liverpool were behind Everton for two years.

GOOD. I'M GLAD YOU GET FOURTH IS THE LIMIT OF LIVERPOOL'S AMBITIONS. THE RED SIDE OF MANCHESTER WILL STAY AS ARROGANT AS EVER UNTIL WE GET BACK TO THE TOP.
I hope you stay chirpy. It's people like you you mention limits on ambitions that drive folk to go further. Turn off the caps lock. A simple exclamation mark would suffice for emphasis.

He made a post and suddenly there seemed to be about half a dozen scousers jumping all over him.

Feels like there are dippers everywhere :nervous::lol: Taking over the caf!

Flirting with a title challenge has brought this on. Imagine if you won a league, and then imagine if you started to dominate to the extent Utd did under Fergie...

He's made several untrue posts

In fairness having 6 liverpool supporters in a liverpool thread isn't that shocking is it?

Fine. Still think you guy need to chill out. I wasn't here in 2009 though so maybe it was the same then. Something we might have to get used to, having our rivals in with a shot of winning the league.

Puts things into perspective for them hey.
It really hasn't. Do you think if Stevie G wins the title this year (which he won't) it will mean any less to him because "Giggsy" has won more? Will it feck?

I don't think anyone is riled up. I think it was fair to call our Rory for a very arrogant post. Have you read it yet?

Not for him, for you lot, as fans.

Remember, it's all we had when Fergie started dominating. 18 times.

I like putting FOURTH in caps. If Liverpool finish FIRST you'll get plenty of exclamation marks from me!!!! !! !

:p

Oh I'd also say it people like Fergie who drives folks further too. No doubt Brendan has pinned "Stevie G is not TOP TOP player" to the dressing om wall

You're dead right there. Fergie could take comments like yours and base a whole season on them!

We need to beat them and kill any slim hopes they have of winning the title. A big ask considering how good they are and how poor we are at the moment, especially at Old Trafford.

Feck the Champions League, are we really going to beat the like of Bayern, Real Madrid or Barca if we do make it past Olympiakos anyway? Beating Liverpool is my top priority. It might be small-time but for the next three months, small-time is exactly what we are.

that is small time. they deserve FOURTH. I'd hate to see them miss out

No I mean, after this season you will still never have finished FOURTH.

Perhaps it's because we are so far away, or perhaps it's not hit me yet, or perhaps it's because in my football following life Liverpool have never won the title and hence I'm unaware of how insufferable Liverpool fans can get, but I am completely unbothered right now at the thought of them winning the league.

Nothing is cut and dried of course, but I do think there's a very significant chance you'll be out of the top 4 for at least the next couple of seasons after this one.

The closest correlation in terms of where a team finishes in the League is their wage bill. United can afford the highest wage bill in the League by a significant margin and could actually comfortably pay an annual salary more than Spurs or Liverpool's entire turnover, whilst still remaining very profitable (with or without CL income).

For United to remain outside of the Champions League for more than 1 or at a push 2 seasons, would actually be a difficult task.

As I said on a thread yesterday, United could actually pay their entire playing staff as well as any other team outside Chelsea/City/Arsenal and still fall into Uefa's 70% advisory cap on wages.

There is as much chance of United falling outside of the top 4 for more than an anomalous season, as Chelsea before Mourinho and Manchester City nowadays.

As a man who grew up watching Liverpool win title after title I can tell exactly how insufferable they get. They are bordering on insufferable at the prospect of finishing FOURTH.

Hi Rory. You sound like a balanced chap with chips on both your shoulders but you come across as the insufferable one in this thread. xxxx

You're ignoring the Moyes factor + the massive rebuild facing you in the summer without the lure of CL football to help attract the best players. Chelsea never had to deal with such things when they finished 6th and Manchester City have never finished outside the top 4 since their sugar daddy arrived and first established them as a top 4 side.

You are being wildly optimistic .... similar to the general state of denial amongst United fans last summer
