Liverpool

Neither Konoplyanka or Remy would get into our best XI probably, but they'd both be brilliant options to have and would both see plenty of game time. Hopefully the Sami connection would allow us to negotiate for Bender easier too.

It'd be difficult to get into the First XI in the attacking spots but watching Konoplyanka in the EL i think he has the quality to do so.

Then Liverpool should make a very fast move for Bender.........Hyypiä has few problems in Leverkusen

Btw any transfer news on Will Hughes.......still on Liverpool's transfer lis?

Doubt Bender will happen, he's just who I'd like us to go for.

I'd imagine we'll leave Hughes where he is if Derby get promoted and another team don't make a move. If a team do make a move, I think we'll step in and sign him and send him on loan.

Seen Hughes a couple of times on SKY for Derby , one of the games very recent, wasn't impressed at all to be honest.
Wasteful with the ball and no real impact on the play.
Maybe hard to judge off that but he just didn't stand out at all. With the young players we have coming through and potentially the likes of Suso and Coady to come back not sure if Hughes is really worth it.

Papers making noises about Vertonghen this morning. I wouldn't be upset at all to see him at Liverpool. Good option at left or centre.

Such excitement in this thread. After years of shit, it must be a great feeling. You guys can dream.

Things just seem to be going from shit to worse shit for us on the other hand.

Football. Bloody hell.

Good player, but would be an awful signing. We don't need another left sided centre half.

Where does Lars Bender play Barney? I thought he was a defensive midfield type in champions league but I haven't seen much of him at all.

He's more of a box to box midfielder. His brother Sven is an out and out defensive one.

It's been a great season with some great football played. The dodgey defence kind of adds to the excitment.

With Lucas being unlucky with injury and Gerard dropping back it would be nice to have another player of that type in there. Mind you Allen really is improving again. Looks to be finding his feet. Do you see Suso ending up on the wing or in a Coutinho type role?

Shame we're not up there this season, title rivalry with Liverpool would be great to have again. It seems there's now an unwritten rule between us that where one is doing well the other's got to be utter dog shit. :(

I think Suso will end up better than Coutinho if he is played centrally. If either of them are to be shunted out on the wing I think Coutinho would handle it better. I'd be fine to see them both play the same position and rotate them.

Remy has a higher potential than Sturridge imho. Look at what he did for QPR and now for Newcastle. Wonder what he could do in an actual good team

In order to improve, Liverpool for me need to add a LB, RB, CB and Winger to their options.

That being said, I think it would be a mistake to 'do a spurs' and try to add too much, too soon.

I wish it would slow down, I wish this season could be spread out over a couple of years. Maybe I'm getting old, but its all happening too quick for me. :(

My worst fear is by the time I catch up, Man Utd will have won the league with Van Gaal and I'll be cursing myself for not having enjoyed 'our moment' more.

we live in the age of instant success. What United are going through is seen as the end of the club...and what Liverpool are doing as back to the 70s....

City and Chelsea and their like are the true powers....this is the modern game.

I think we are okay at RB, especially with Flanagan on the upgrade and we have a very promising young player also in Ryan McLaughlin. To get a new one would impact their development.
LB yes we definitely need to sort that out.
CB not sure , we have the numbers but perhaps Rodgers will shuffle things around there given some of our performances at the back recently, though to be fair Sakho has been out for several weeks now.
Winger yes I can only assume given the January madness that along with a LB will be a priority.

Ill be surprised unless Liverpool make a major investment they will be top 4 next year. They have done well but they have had no Europe to contend with and the fact the unrest in the usual top 3. Natural order should resume next year. Plus they will have to replace Gerrard & Toure who are getting slower by the day, plus Suarez who if Barca or Madrid come calling will be off in a shot.

Remy is 27.

And if you think he has potential to score 1 goal every game for the next 30 games or so, like Sturridge has done then fair dues to you, because i don't see it happening at all.

Agree with your last point though, 3, 4 signings at the most is enough.

You would think the summer would teach people not to spout things as if it is set in stone. Suarez has just signed a new 4 year contract, if Barca or Madrid want to come in with another world record transfer then fair play to them, but i very much doubt they will after spending close to 90 m on Neymar and Bale respectively.

We don't need major investment to be top 4 next year, we'll be there or there abouts even if we only made a couple signings.

You can always buy the season review! ;)

Nah I can understand what you're saying. It's been very much unexpected and everything's just kind of...clicked in place at once.

I hope you're right (re United getting out of our slump) but for your lot, hopefully Brendon isn't a one-season wonder.

Blimey lot's of insight there, before the current season has ended, before the summer transfer market opens.
Gerrard playing a deeper role now, and quite apart form anything else his form has been pretty good of late.

You also have no real insight into the Suarez situation, seems happy enough to me and if we do get in the Champions League I think he will stay.
If someone offers 'Bale like money' we will see I guess.

I think your points are more in hope to be honest.

I am not over confident we will have just as good a season, but there is no real evidence to suggest it's just a one-off either.
It's too early to predict.

I still think Chelsea and City have the league between them but it's great to see Liverpool play exciting football and try to beat teams off the park. Newcastle adopted a similar policy though and it worked to a point but they didnt perfect the art of winning badly. Something Liverpool used to manage.

There is still loads of this season to go and anything could happen. We could go on a poor run or conversely an amazing one. Either way we will strengthen in the summer at the back and if we are lucky with injuries should have a solid year next term consolidating a top 4 position would seem likely if we finish top 4 this season but just look at this year. Death and taxes!

haha on Suso I've not seen much of him this term but he seems to be playing well and regularly. I'd like to see him play more in the Coutinho role for us next term. It'd be great for him to get the experience. I want us to hold onto Kelly too and start playing him more centrally. I think he is a reliable lad and should be given a go.

It's been great football though. Your lot seems to be playing out of their skin this season.

As a neutral it would be great to watch but my word...I fecking hate it! :D

didnt realise Remy was 27 already. In which case ignore that point!

So my prediction is in hope but yours is not? I'm going with the last 5 years you have struggled to have an impact. This season has had a special set of circumstances for the top 3, hence the fact yourselves and Arsenal are still thereabouts. I think the top 3 have all regressed more than Liverpool have improved (this backed up by results in Europe) next season I expect United Chelsea and City to improve. Unless there is major investment in Liverpool needed to compete in league and Europe I think they will be back to challenging for 4th with Spurs and Arsenal. Nothing derogatory in that just my honest assessment Johnny. Plus with Suarez it looked like he was keen to go to Arsenal in the summer so Real and Barca would be even more of a lure imo.

Yeah I never expected this level of performance. I'm still a bit disappointed in the likes of Agger and Skrtel though but I think a change will be coming at centre back next year.

Do you think united will be able to get a top 4 finish and if not will they be able to attract in the big signings you would like them to make? It's a vicious circle when you fall out of the champions league because it's a showcase for the best footballers and very hard to break back into.

do you believe a one season absence from the top 4 makes United a lesser club than Liverpool? we can attract anyone we want...its money. The owners will not have sanctioned a record for Mata otherwise. But my fear is even with the best players....Moyes may not have the ability to take the title. That doubt may also be in the owners mind...in spite of what SAF says.

I've been impressed with Liverpool this season. I don't think they've got what it takes to win the league this year, but they have improved no end and will be a decent bet for the league next year. But the one weakness I see is their squad. If they qualify for the CL, they don't have the depth to mount a sustained challenge both in Europe and in three domestic competitions.

Yeah, I'm hoping the extra burden of European fixtures will take it's toll on their squad next season. Fingers crossed!

Interesting choice of players to back up your argument there Shark.

That's why the coming summer window will be vitally important for Rodgers and Liverpool. Finishing inside the top for will give him a great chance to add depth and most importantly, more quality. It really could be a make or break window for the club IMO.

Finishing 3rd would be nice. Means we can spend early in the window rather than worry about qualifying,
