Their form is beginning to look like the 09 run in under Benitez. I think the outcome will end up the same - not winning the title.

This "WE WILL SCORE MORE THAN YOU" thing is turning out a lot more entertaining than I would have imagined. Also nervewrecking at times but fecking hell. I love watching games in the full confidence that we haven't score our last goal. Two years ago, you could make the call on our last goal after 25 minutes.

Played some great football, with young players and a number of Britsh players too.

Fair play to them. Their best shot at the title in years and altho I expect them to strengthen in the summer, I think they wont get a better chance for a while either - itll be second season for Mourinho and Pellegrini who will also buy big.

It's weird.. I think theyve got a shot at the title this season (dont think they will but they're contenders) but could easily see them dropping out of the top 4 next season with Europe to cope with.

No chance theyd be where they are now if they were in the Champions League. Still, huge credit to Liverpool and Rodgers.

Bloody hell.

Where do you think we'll finish mate?

honestly no idea. If we can close the gap on both city and chelsea to 1-2 points, I think we might actually win it. Which would be the most improbable achievement in the league for god knows how many decades.

If we can't it'll be 3rd. Arsenal are done.

Just to be in this position right now is like a dream. I never thought we'd be this good so soon. I was expecting a good challenge for 4th and ultimately missing out to better teams.

I keep telling myself we can't win the league and I still don't think we will, one game at a time I suppose.
Having said that 3rd is now a possibility.
Manager is doing a great job and hopefully we can strengthen in the summer.

Absolutely brilliant job to score so many but that is an incorrect comparison imo. Real and Barcelona have played 3 games less, City have played 2 games less and Bayern have played a whole 5 games less.

Some perspective need, all of them have played 2 or 3 matches less than Liverpool but it still is a great tally tbh.

I think 3rd is the best we can hope for. The top 2 will be City & Chelsea (not sure in which order though).

I'd love to see us break the bank for Luke Shaw & Adam Lallana. They'd fit in perfectly with Rodgers type of football. I can see quite a few clubs wafting some big money in Southampton's direction during the summer though.

I actually love this thread. It's amazing seeing the Liverpool fans giving it back after all the (deserved) slagging and abuse over the years.

TBF, most of the United fans posting on here now are not the ones who gave us endless stick. Those people, not surprisingly, don't post too often now on Liverpool related threads. I imagine the vast majority would be the younger supporters who have known nothing but total United dominance over ourselves for the past couple of decades. I've been there myself during the 70's & 80's, when I too, thought it would last forever. The one thing I've learn't since, is that things can change very quickly in football.

I think you're in with a great shout now. Liverpool are the form team at the right time.

Top 2 position at end of season.

United NEED to beat you cnuts now more than ever

If Arsenal can't win the league (and it looks like they won't) I'd rather Liverpool did. They've gone about things the right way, and in my opinion play the best football in the league. If they win the title, they won't have bought it either; they'll have earned it. Well played to Rodgers in particular. We all mocked him so now is the time to admit we were wrong.

:D

I'd have happily taken 2 points from our away matches against Southampton & United. The way I see it, anything we get at OT will now be a bonus. It's great being in the title race at this stage of the season, but I really can't see City or Chelsea dropping more than 6 or 7 points from their remaining fixtures. We'd have to win pretty much all our remaining games to take advantage. Right now I'd be delighted with 4th place. I'd be absolutely ecstatic with 3rd. Anything over & above that doesn't really come into my thinking right now. Although if we beat you in a couple of weeks............

I agree about those 2 but like you say others will be in for them too. Probably both end up at Chelsea!

I would be delighted with 3rd too but all we can do is take one game at a time as is often said.

One thing that's interesting about Liverpool for me is that they are changing their formation from game to game, making the unpredictable to opponents. Yesterday they played diamond with Suarez and Sturridge up top, in the games before it was 433, earlier in the season it was with 3/5 defenders, sometimes it's with two midfielders behind Coutinho, and sometimes it's Coutinho and Allen/henderson in pair in front of Gerrard. It's quite interesting that Rodgers isn't sticking with same formation, but is changing it all the time. It could be hurting their defence though, but as long as they are scoring more than they conceede they are happy.

No. Never. Anyone but Liverpool.

Don't think anyone could say that they don't deserve it if they manage to this year. Although they don't have the best keeper in the league or the best defense, they have an attack which is arguably the best (Sturridge/Suarez and Aguero/Negredo is close), and a midfield which has been one of the best this year. But that's the thing...they might not have the best individual players in each position with 'star names' but Rodgers has them playing as a strong cohesive unit.

I think Rodgers must be a brilliant man-manager. Henderson has taken his game up another notch this season, at a time when SAF made those comments about him. Rodgers played that very well and clearly instilled the confidence he has within him. He and Martinez strike me as people who are 'Never say you can't do something as you always can' type of guys.

IMO Martinez, Poyet and Rodgers are the future. With all due respect to Everton and Sunderland, I think Martinez and Poyet will kick on further and go on to manage one of the top 4 teams.

I think Martinez will kick us on. I believe we can win a trophy under him and get back into Europe.

It's certainly a possibility. Would you have had the same confidence with Moyes in charge?

Last year i was pretty confident we would get into Europe because of how we were playing, we just fell a bit too short in the big games and had too many costly draws though which were avoidable (and i doubt would have happened with another manager who didn't try to conserve a lead and just let the game play out naturally). Trophy wise i thought we would do it in the Cup Final against Chelsea but we scored WAY too early unfortunately.

Fair enough, but the problem about draws and conservation of leads you mention is one of our biggest problems now. You don't see that under Martinez. In fact, you don't see that under any other top manager other than Mourinho, who somehow gets away with it like Fergie did. Moyes rarely got away with it yet he still persists with it, to our detriment.

Think Martinez would want to build a legacy at Everton doesn't look like the type who will leave at the first call from a bigger club. A big problem for Everton would be investment though, they remind me of Liverpool in Rodgers first season at the moment, playing good football but a bit toothless, if they could get around 40 m for signings i think they will be in the battle for 4th again.

No doubt. I find it a bit unfair that draws are so harsh though. You could have a team who loses 5 more than you but end up being above you because you've drawn more than them.

Aye, we need a striker who will get us goals and a midfielder/winger who is a goalscorer. It's another reason i like when Barkley is in the side though, as he isn't afraid to take a shot rather than try to walk it in (which we are guilty of sometimes).

Shaw, Song, Remy in the summer please?

Shaw, Song, Remy in the summer please?

I want him too. He could be the main man with us or he could be second fiddle with you but have CL. He's probably at the stage of his career where he wants the CL football though. :(

Shaw, Song, Remy in the summer please?

Shaw yes, Remy yes, Song please no.

Remy would be brilliant for us, he'd play Sturridge's role brilliantly when we needed to rotate.

Get rid of Agger, Skrtel, Johnson, Assaidi, Borini, Kelly, Aspas and loan out Alberto. Then add a new left back, right back, centre half, centre mid, winger and striker and we're laughing. It's probably too much to expect in one summer, but that for me would be ideal.

More importantly, we've seen your Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime campaign and raised it!

Would keep Borini tbh, he's good enough to play as a third striker.

Also Wisdom and Mcaughlin will come back next season, worth keeping in mind that Flannagan who has been excellent this season, was never as highly rated as those two and Robinson when first breaking through, i think them coming back will negate the need of a right back.

I would keep one of Agger or Skrtel and get a left back, winger and new CB, honestly don't think we need that many reinforcements, and i'm sure Rodgers will agree, don't see us making 6 or 7 new signings in the summer, were not Spurs.

Which players would you like (that are realistic) for LB/RB/CB/RW/LW/ST?

Rodriguez, Montoya, Bender, Konoplyanka and Martinez or Remy would be a brilliant summer. Bender and Martinez would probably be rather expensive, but both are realistic if we pay the money. Montoya and Konoplyanka both have very little time remaining on their contracts. Would love Coleman, but no chance of that happening. I reckon we could get this done for around £70m gross and we'd probably save a fair bit on wages if we sold who I'd want us to sell.

I've gone back and forth regarding Borini. Think he'll be a cracking player for the right team, but I don't think he's the type of striker Rodgers is going to want for this counterattacking system.

It'd be lunacy to go into next season without an established right back IMO. Wisdom and Flanagan aren't good enough going forward to be long term options I think. I think we'll probably sign 4 or 5 players. And we made 6 or 7 signings last summer.

Also, I think Johnson and at least one of Agger and Skrtel will be definitely sold. All three are on giant wages and Agger and Johnson each don't have long left on their contract.

I'm dying to see Suso back too. Can't wait for him to hopefully get a decent run of games.

Konoplyanka would probably happen. Bender (Assuming you mean Lars?) and Remy i think you'd be able to get too. It would only be Remy that wouldn't go straight into the First XI for obvious reason but he'd be an excellent back-up. Not seen much of Montoya to be fair. For LB i think Ben Davies might be an option, Rodgers would know him well.

@BarneyLFC
Which Rodriguez? Wolfsburg's left-back?
Which Bender? Lars from Leverkusen?

Aye.

Neither Konoplyanka or Remy would get into our best XI probably, but they'd both be brilliant options to have and would both see plenty of game time. Hopefully the Sami connection would allow us to negotiate for Bender easier too.
